Depends on the individual command, whether the parent is a mom or dad, whether they’re active duty vs National Guard, etc. Mostly what I saw (active duty navy) was that single parents can and will use their status to get out of undesirable duties/watchstations, under the pretense of childcare, of course. Not that said childcare isn’t important, but it happened often enough that most people agreed “yeah, they’re abusing that ‘single-parent’ thing.”
