1	Gender Gap Widens, Reaches 2-to-1 At At Least One College I have to admit I didn't start off well versed, but I was interested. I struggled through Spinoza and read a few books by Singer. Enjoyed Nietzsche and loved Brad Warner's Hardcore Zen and Sit Down and Shut UP What I did have was a background in Art History and Anthropology/Sociology, which though don't directly work on argument and rhetoric per-se, are a great introduction to different zeitgeist (I feel pretty pretentious whipping that word out but it's the one that fits.)	/r/MensRights	28/09/10 04:30 AM

3	What do you tell your daughters? I completely agree. I lucked out and had a best buddy who is a smart boy as quirky as I am. We made art, went to the theater, played in the wooded marsh in my back yard (oh man! was that place great to play Luke and Yoda) played video-games, wrote books, made science experiments, had squirt gun fights, had real fights (well... we wrestled) and generally were the kids we wanted to be. 3	What do you tell your daughters? Definitely! I hate the way kids are guided into separate spheres, boys are mocked if they like "girlie" things and vice versa. Not only can you not like the things of the "opposite" gender but if you don't like the things assigned to your own, you're a freak too. Society puts it into kids heads that boys do X and girls do Y and then kids get so self policing it's scary. These separate spheres of interest help reinforce the isolation of the genders. I think a big part of the problem is that boys get told "don't hit girls" and other stuff like that, but girls don't get explicitly taught to treat boys with respect as well. I think it's half the idea that girls aren't a threat (hence why people let women get away with saying some nasty stuff) and half that boys can "take it." My boyfriend and I are probably on par, but he thinks faster on his feet, so it's always a challenge. I think they're both very lucid discussions of the subject of contemporary masculinity, and the former focuses on boys' statistically flagging academic interest and achievement. What does every one else think might be the cause of these differences? We know it's not biological, or economical (boys and girls are born to households across the economic spectrum.)
