This is a fair sentiment. I was worried about being a father because I had a terrible upbringing. But when you have contempt for the way you were brought up, you do everything in your power to not give kids that experience... or at least a better experience than you had. It's weird how naturally it'll come to just stop and go, "Wait, my parents did that, and it was fucked up, I won't do that to my kids."

Uh... Are you trying to bait him into the logical fallacy Argument From Authority? Because Georgia O'Keefe and Jackson Pollock both went to art school, and it worked for them to be great artists. Henri Cartier-Bresson went to Lhote Academy. /u/Oaklandisgay isn't wrong that some things work for other people. You can teach art, and you can learn art.
