If you read it as if it were Greek mythology, you may find significant meaning behind the texts. I was confirmed in the church and didn’t understand a damn thing in the bible. I am still not a religious person, but upon revisiting the text as I get older, I’ve found meaning in the stories, understanding of archetypes, and tracing that back to my college education in the humanities courses I took. I studied math in college but I got more out of my history and literature classes than the math in s…

I was a civilian at one point, so I see where you're coming from with this. Right now, I'm an officer in the military, and I'm about to become a veteran, never to be a civilian ever again. I haven't read the DSM-IV TR recently, but I know that doctors are beginning to discern between 'adjustment disorders' and PTSD. There is definitely a spectrum and a range of affects you can experience. My buddy who commissioned with me after being a Staff Sergeant in the Marines sure seemed to have some prett…

Here's my experience running a Navy fitness program for a command of ~80 people. The new check ins from the school house didn't come from a place where they had a fitness program. Upon arrival, the first PFA of the year we had 20 failures. So one day IS1 comes up to me and says "sir, take at this sheet here..." "What's up IS1?" "So per the regs, the only people qualified to be a command fitness leader (CFL) or assistant (ACFL) are those who have an excellent or above." "So you're saying there ar…

I realize this is data point one, but from personal experience as a young man growing up in a separated household, the fake pretending everyone participated in around the holidays made it the worst time of the year for me. Sometimes it is useful to face unpleasant facts directly. When your kid is older and the radiation from your shitty failed marriage has finally settled, then you can maybe play overly happy ex-law functioning dysfunction family time once a year. Children learn what they live -…

You got any friends in the area you can go out with? I have a soft spot in my heart for Marines (trained at Navy OCS by Marines), and I know you all have a tight brotherhood. I just know it can be a dangerous game to not go out with friends who can keep you in check or help you get home if you get too fucked up lol. I get the point is to do it alone, but idk will that make you happy? My good friend Rob and I go out to the bar and half of the time we just go out to drink and catch up. Since we ar…

This is so true in regard to studying under exam like conditions. I'm an actuarial sciences student (already have bachelor's degree in mathematics), and we generally average ~300 hours of study per preliminary exam we take. I could piss away 250 of those hours reading solutions to problems, studying all of the formulas, and copying problem after problem. What really changed the game for me was when I failed my first exam after only doing about 50 hours of exam-like conditions practice tests. Tha…

It's because the ones with true power, the elites, continue to push the Identity War as a way to distract the masses from the real conflict, the Class War. Full disclosure, I consider myself mostly conservative, but I do acknowledge that fundamentally this is what is going on.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
