That makes sense. It’s a very broad rule of thumb only, not the law, but useful if you want to settle quickly. I still think net is fairer. Your lawyer should be able to calculate it.

I’d base any calculation off net not gross because your tax rate filing single will be a lot higher. It looks like the rule of thumb in NJ is 1/3 the difference, so 22.5% would seem a little low - but it may be fine if her expenses (need) are low or she’s getting a lot of assets and self-supporting without alimony. 6 years seems like a long time for a 10 year marriage and she already works full-time. 10 years is not a long time. You know whoever you end up with is going to be less physically attractive over time because people age and get out of shape, right? Seems like you get bored easily and you’re not the commitment type, and follow your d*** where it leads you. Every teenager goes through this stage, but once you marry and have kids you should have matured out of that. I didn’t get married until I was 35, because I was like you for a long time.

So any parent can just take their children whenever and wherever they want and conceal their location from the other parent because they have “legal custody”.
