I have gone from being a zero self confidence beta, to something more like a confident guy with frame and a mission. And I lift. People treat me differently now as a result. And my bedroom is far from dead.

I was sitting on my couch frustrated one Sunday night after my wife had gone to bed. Came across some sort of dead bedroom thread and one of the commenters linked to TRP. Spent the rest of that night reading as much as I could about it. Initially I rejected it as a bit extreme, but once I learned to sort the good stuff from the not so good stuff and fully embraced it, it has changed my life.

You’ve broken your brain through porn. Reset and fuck real women again.

Oneitis: basically, you think she could be “the one”/one girl is the focus of all your effort and attention. It’s dangerous. There are plenty of hot singles in your area, as the ads say.

I’m 38 and have taken up quite a few new sports recently. Join a social competition if you’re worried about not being any good. Most of the others there won’t be either.

Detox, you say? Sounds like a real catch. Find some other women to give attention to and let this one slide. If nothing else you’re coming across as needy or having oneitis.

Nofap is a bit silly. Sooner or later you need to relieve the pressure if you’re not getting laid. Better to think of it as Lessfap. Two or three times a week isn’t too bad, less than that even better.

This was me. I tell myself “I am a man. That is enough” and it works. That, plus getting into shape and dressing better, sorted out 80% of my social anxiety. Simple red pill stuff.

No. This is a common problem around here: the idea that to be RP you have to be an asshole. There are plenty of BP assholes. You can certainly be a gentleman, hold frame, game, and be alpha. In fact I’d say that’s what the Brits would call a “cad”.

Background to me: 37, married, two boys. Recovering beta/drunk captain/people pleaser/low confidence guy. Working on relationship, career, fitness, image, and sociability. Observations People are noticing the physical changes in me. Two people this week have told me I’m looking good, looking like I’ve lost weight etc. These were people I haven’t seen for a few months, so clearly the difference is notable over time. The starting point was internalising the message that I was a man, and that was enough. That it was OK to be a man and do masculine things. I started being more focused on myself and my mission. I started leading. I exercised more, and started lifting. All of these things boosted confidence, and in this game, that’s everything,

I’m married so the goalposts are different. But in a year of TRP, my confidence is way up, my self esteem is way up, and I get laid a lot more.

So...she just doesn’t want to fuck you then?
/r/MarriedRedPill21/08/18 09:02 PM

On the sex: that’s how my wife was for years. Would never initiate, would say the sorts of things your wife said. My strategy was just to tell her that I was going to fuck her and how, and do it. Turned out she preferred that; no pressure on her to be the sexual one bit very happy to follow instructions. How is your wife physically? Mine became better in bed when she lost weight and gained some body confidence.

OYS: First Anniversary edition This week marks one year since I started owning my shit. So this will be a frank assessment of how I’ve gone and where I have work to do. The Guardian had some angry column about this point today: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/aug/18/mens-fixation-on-young-women-is-another-sign-of-masculinity-in-crisis?CMP=fb_gu Apparently masculinity is in crisis because men prefer younger women. You need to draw the line in the sand. You say you will tell her the marriage is off if she continues like this. The time to tell her is now, and it needs to be “I am not marrying you because...”, not “I am not marrying you unless...” Seriously. Fucked up women rarely unfuck themselves, and they will take you down with them.

I used go watch a lot of porn, and I got poor quality duty sex maybe once a week. If that. I tried repeatedly to quit porn as I could see what it was doing to me, and struggled. The sex didn’t get any better, so now I still had the same desires but no outlet. Then I used RP principles and techniques to unfuck myself. I will still drink beer 1x/wk as it's socially useful, but I used to have a craft beer maybe 3 nights a week and 2-3 on one weekend night. Have you considered swapping beer for something else? I say this as from what I've been reading on xenoestrogens, beer is not so good. I've given up on beer (which I never liked that much) and pretty much just drink ciders and wine these days.

Your situation sounds like mine, 12-18 months ago. A little bit on the RP Rambo side (getting angry when decisions questioned), and still caring too much what the wife thinks. She will respond better when you are more clearly owning your shit and you've got your life heading the right way, but it's what the economists would call a "lagging indicator". You've gotta make the improvements first, and eventually she'll respond.

If I can offer an observation as a married man: my wife is happier knowing just enough to know things are fine. She does not need to know everything in my head or how I feel about stuff.

Working long hours is nothing if you produce nothing useful. Figure out what your boss’s agenda is and help them deliver it. You want to be the go-to guy who gets stuff done. I’ve also found volunteering for stuff is good too. Do they need someone to go on XYZ Committee? Doesn’t matter what it is, stick your hand up. Old guys know stuff, and they want to share it with young guys. They’ve been there and done that. Seek their advice.

I’m going to make this brief this week as I’m a bit smashed by anaesthetic from dental work today. Things generally OK, if no particular progress to report anywhere. I am still feeling run down, as I have for a couple of weeks. It’s affecting my lifting, as I like to do that at night but I’m often just too tired by the time kids are in bed etc. I’ve experimented with doing it in the morning instead and that works better for me so I’m going to do more of that. I’ve noticed this too. I used to be fairly left leaning on economic and social issues. These days I’d say I’m economically conservative and socially liberal; but socially liberal in the sense that people should run their own lives and the state has no business interfering in what consenting adults do. Perhaps that’s more libertarian than liberal?

NoFap is not such a good thing. ReducedFap is what you want. Fapping several times a day? Cut down to once a day, then once every few days. Staying away from porn is the real issue. Fapping is OK in moderation.

I used to be like that. Starting point: you’re a man. Be one. Act like one. Read the sidebar and the books. Do what they say. Do things to boost your testosterone. All those things will boost confidence. I am by no means alpha extrovert guy now, but five years ago I basically ran away from a social event where I didn’t know anyone. Today I can work a room. You can too bro.

I want him to be a successful man. To do that, he needs confidence and resilience, and a better work ethic than he has now. Confidence and resilience he can get through exposure to things that challenge him, including and especially things that might not go his way. Work ethic is harder, he’s very dedicated to the things he cares about, less so to the things he isn’t. But that’s all of us. I used it to escape from real life basically - anything. Had a bad day? Porn. Wife difficult? Porn. I worked out what caused me to need it. For me, it was stress relief/escape. In part I looked for other relief valves. I also, and more importantly, addressed the issues that made me need the escape. Figure out why you’re doing it. All the advice on filters etc is good, but you will find a way around them when you get desperate for a hit. Most people who get addicted to things do so because something else is wrong in their life. Porn, alcohol, drugs, whatever allows them to escape their own minds for a little while, When you figure out why you use porn so much, you can put in place a strategy to fix it. She had an LTR in her mid 20s, ended that, rode the CC, then it was too late. She’d let herself go a bit and had put on weight. Still attractive but a 20kg loss would work wonders. Yeah, I did think about that after I wrote it. What I was trying to say is "it has the characteristics of an addiction" - that is, I know it's bad for me, I regret it after I do it, but in the moment I don't stop myself. It's the self control that I need to work on. There's two times of day I have this problem: in the morning when I go get my morning coffee at work, and late at night. I’m thinking it’s the part where I wonder if I have outcome independence, but then feel good at the thought that my wife might want another child with me. If it’s not that, then help me out here.

I agree with that. From my point of view though, so far this year I have gone from not being able to run 5km without walking, to being able to run it in a non-embarrassing time. That’s not nothing. It’s changing my body shape and reducing my risk of dying from a heart attack. If and when it stops working, I’ll change it. I am not saying I’ll run instead of lift. I’m saying I’m doing both.

I agree with you about diet. It’s been my lifelong struggle. I need to do better there. But I’d also point out that since starting running (and lifting) I’ve gone from 26 to 22% body fat. Not saying you’re wrong, just saying running is working for me. It can’t just be lifting.

Yeah, I struggle with this. The IOIs make me feel good, give me a litmus test to know that I’m getting slimmer/more muscular/more attractive etc, and let me know that I’ll have options if my marriage ends. The last is the key motivation in my mind (as well as for its benefits within the marriage). Having said that, the physical progress just makes me feel good generally, which is reason enough to do it. It’s nice to be fit and not look like a fat oaf.

I was the same and TBH I still rely on validation from women to a fair degree (or maybe as a test that what I’m doing is working, I don’t know). I think it’s a confidence thing. You’re not confident enough to look at your own progress and conclude that it’s good (or not).

For me -- and I acted out IRL, in the extreme -- it was ultimately about the powerlessness I felt in the bedroom because I'd given her all control there. The porn, and later the whoring, got compulsive, and a bit obsessive, because it was the one thing I had complete control over. I’m 37 now and this is consistent with what I’ve seen. Men over 30 who don’t look like shit are in demand. Doubly so if you have obvious success (good career, good car etc). The downside of this is that you might just look like good BB material. My other observation would be that in my early 30s, attention even from late teens women was still a thing. Not every day, but it happened. In my late 30s, early to more like mid 20s is the youngest. That’s not really a problem, it just is.

I tried willpower for years and it didn’t work. Treating it as an addiction - plus TRP - has been the most successful way I’ve found of dealing with it. I recognise that calling it an addiction puts it into the illness category - but it’s a treatable illness, and I can do the work to treat it. For me, it has been a coping mechanism. I’m finding other ones these days. This week I failed at that.

This is a good point. I need to put measurable targets on these things or it’s too easy to say “yeah, good enough”. Diet is bad because I overeat and eat bad things when I’m not mentally 100%. My strategies for dealing with stress are not ideal.

For me, learning about TRP has helped me stay away from porn. It’s just not something you should be doing, when you could be working on yourself. Which, as a bonus, will help you get an actual girl. Which is a damn sight better than anything on a screen.

I agree. I don’t think TRP as a philosophy hates women at all. It is a tool for understanding women. This is clear through much of Rollo’s work.

I can’t always translate the party years/cashing out (ie pre and post 30ish) stages to what I’ve observed among some women I’ve known for years. Those who found a partner at a fairly young age and stayed with them. I also can’t always see what I read here in many intelligent and introverted women that I know; although it does clearly apply to “popular party girls”. Maybe it’s more subtle.

“the storyline involves a man “winning” an initially uninterested woman either by wooing her directly or by performing some great feat.” This hit home for me. Not once did I ever achieve success with a woman who initially turned me down. Yet I kept on trying. The advice I’ll give my sons is to try once, then next. I think it really is that simple. Ultimately if a woman is into you, she’ll let you know; learn to read the signs.

It does? That makes perfect sense. My anxiety has been far better since I stopped watching porn.

Thank you sir. Sometimes it helps just to be reminded that the road to looking better is a long one. Apples are a good idea. My son eats several a day so we’re always buying them!

Low self confidence I think. It’s getting better but I’ve always felt not good enough. I put it down to how I was brought up, plus being fairly overweight from about age 10-11 onwards. It’s only in the last few years that I’ve started to get past what’s in my own head.

I have, and it did help. I’m in a much better headspace now than I was a year ago.

Your comment that you’re ok with the divorce despite 20 plus years rang true with me. There’s a part of me - a lot of me - that wouldn’t be overly concerned if I got divorced once the kids were old enough to leave home. I feel like that’s not a bad thing. Good luck with it all.

Owning my shit, Edition 10. Me: 37, married, two boys. Working on relationship, career, fitness, image, and sociability. Observations I’m feeling pretty down on myself tonight so this is probably going to be a fairly negative post. That’s fine, it’s all about owning your shit and I’m certainly going to do that this week. This week I’ve been reflecting on how low value a man I was in my younger years. From about 18 to 20 I couldn’t get anything happening with a girl at all, and it was a total mys…

After the phase shift then suddenly the ailments appear (tiredness, aches, lack of energy). And are you shifting from alpha to beta in this stage accordingly - upping the level of comfort etc? I found that technique, based on Athol Kay's work, to be a winner.

Owning my shit, Edition 9. Me: 37, married, two boys. Working on relationship, career, fitness, and sociability. Successes this week Health/Fitness. I did the longest cycle event I’ve ever done this week, at 106.5km with about 1600m of elevation gain. Hard work, but I finished it. Not fast, but I finished it. Kept up some running too. Will now start more serious training for a 124km event in early December. Not losing any weight, but getting fitter, clothes fit better etc so I may be worrying to…

Good advice. I don’t only toy around with her and my sex life is good, so I really do only do this for entertainment. But yeah, I know I have to be careful not to catch the feels with this one.

Owning my shit, Edition 8. Me: 37, married, two boys. Working on relationship, career, fitness, and sociability. Successes this week Health/Fitness. I finished another 5km run last weekend, my second. Good pace, and wasn’t even last! Just came in from a 3km run. I’m enjoying this running thing far more than I’d have expected. My wife runs a lot and she’s enjoying showing me the ropes. Haven’t lifted much recently so that’s a problem. Will get back into that this week. Social. A bit quiet this we…

Owning my shit, Edition 7. Me: 37, married, two boys. Swallowed the red pill about a year ago, although it’s made attempts to come back out a few times. But you can’t un-know what you know; it’s the implementation now. Successes this week Health/Fitness. I completed a 5km run last weekend, although I walked some of it. I enjoyed it so much I entered another one this weekend, and I’m going to walk less of it. My wife did all the admin for this, which is interesting – good first mate stuff there. …

Swallowed the red pill about a year ago, although it’s made attempts to come back out a few times. But you can’t un-know what you know; it’s the implementation now. Reflecting on this the morning after, everyone who agreed I should have just initiated was right. What I was really displaying was frustration at years of sexual dissatisfaction with this woman fuelled by nice guy behaviour and blue pill thinking. I am not Chad to her. And why would I be? The red pill way is right far more often than it is wrong. And that's why I keep coming back.

I can relate to this, and I've pondered it often. There are days when I've thought I'd be better off without my wife, but I worry about the effects that a divorce would have on our kids. I've had them on my own for the past two days and they've been perfect days. It would suit me really well to have more days like this, plus have a plate come over after they've gone to bed. I've concluded that as my relationship with my wife is very good at the moment, it makes more sense to stay. But if it goes…

Update: so 12 hours later, this has clearly been on her mind all day. Asks e repeatedly if I'm mad at her, I say no or change the subject. Then later on, she tells me she's sorry. Yeah sorry but doesn't change her behaviour in any way. This is what she did last time, and the time before that.

I enjoy having anal sex with her. Thing is, if she'd never done it then I'd just write it off as something she just isn't down for. But we've done it in the past, and now we don't. So something's happened.

I did try that one time...although it was right after she'd had an orgasm. That was probably the mistake - my thinking had been that making her feel good would make her want to make me feel good.
