Not sure why I feel a little empty You said it yourself. 13 years of married life gone. All of the progress towards your joint hopes and dreams as a couple are erased. Not to mention the huge impact to your kids. It sucks. Sorry you're going through it. Glad to at least hear it sounds like it's turning out well for you. Or at least as well as these things can go.

That's something only you two can figure out and answer. You've already stayed for 7 years. I doubt it was all miserable. I think in a lot of situations it can be easy to focus on the 20% that's bad and not think much about the 80% that's good. Sort of a grass is always greener situation perhaps?

"7 year itch" is a phrase for a reason. You sure divorce is the right option?

I can appreciate the alone time, but only in short stints (like hours, or a single night). I don't know if "empty" is the right word for it...it feels like my time and energy is...misplaced? Like my mind is aware that I have a kid, and it finds it uncomfortable and lacking purpose to not be doing things that relate to kid/family.

You can, but not alone. It turns out it takes both of you to make it work. :(

I definitely wonder if you are building this up in your head to be more than it actually is. I will say that my ex initiated a divorce partially for this reason (we were together since college), but she stated as much. It didn't really work out how she expected though -- getting divorced doesn't suddenly make you 23 again.

Hmmm. I definitely hear that you are in a rough spot right now. I don't have any quick fixes. I will say that it does not sound like divorce is your goal here, so it would probably not be wise to initiate one. It seems like you just don't know what else you can do, and divorce is something you can do, so you are considering it. when she moved in with me it was her first time being out of her family’s house. She had never really been on her own. I hear you, but bear in mind that this is how thing…

Here's the hard truth, that honeymoon phase passes for everyone, EVERYONE. OP, you are literally experiencing the proverbial "seven year itch." I'm in agreement with /u/congo_sire , this all can be fixed on with communication and effort. It's good that you are in therapy and counseling. Is she also in therapy? Have you brought up to her that you are feeling like she's not on board with the counseling? I get the impression you are considering divorce because you just don't know what else to do. Y…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
