She's doing one of two things. fucking with you Or Trying to clean up her self image, for internal or external reasons or both. Either way, don't give her space in your head.

There needs to be a shared moral compass that's deeper than "I love you and want the best for you/us" that's the standard I'll be moving forward with once all this is finalized.

Total gut check level response here. I get the idea that you resent your wife for the mental health issues and you hate yourself for it and so you're sticking it out but it's eating you alive. She's also not pulling her weight as a result. So you're doing everything without her support and it's too much. Which it is. If you have any reason to believe that she's not taking the necessary treatment to become a suitable wife and partner again, draw a line in the sand and tell her to get her crap tog…

My wife and I were talking about our family and I told her that I expected her to be the kind of person that would jealously guard the futures of our children. She stared at me blankly and had nothing to say. That's when it became apparent that divorce was what I needed to do in order to jealously guard the futures of my children.

It's simple Get a copy of the podcast, get a lawyer, and if you legally can record your life 24/7 until the divorce is done and maybe even after. Your not dealing with a system built of rational actors, you and your lawyer are the only rational actors, everything else is out to kill you.

I have spoken with some females, but they're carefully selected/allowed. Very specifically they're the wives of married male friends who manage their households well. And even then it's not a word vomit. They've provided some useful insights. I won't engage on the same level as a trusted male friend.

You gotta find someone to talk to. I've been holding it in and just yesterday I had someone who offered a sympathetic ear and I ended up word vomiting for a solid 15 minutes. It felt good, like letting the pressure out of a tank. It was very cathartic. Don't try to stop talking about it. Find the right audience, I'd recommend a male friend.

My family isn't supportive of a divorce, but I believe that their motivations are selfish. They want time with grand children and nieces and nephews at will. A divorce will interrupt that. There's a youtube video from MTOI about divorce and remarriage. You should look it up and watch it, the Rabbi hits on some very important details that are commonly missed or glossed over. Really, it helped me come to spiritual terms with my divorce.

This is also why I'll give no quarter in the divorce. Best thing I've read here is to treat it as coolly as a business partnership that's breaking up. Which is exactly what I'll do.

100% She never accepted any accountability. The gaslighting about how everything was a misunderstanding and therefore my fault was consistent and encompassed everything. She was constantly lying and telling half truths to make herself the victim and the good guy. It was in the last year to 18 months that our relationship fell apart. But she has been very retroactive with all the above to the point of casting shade doubt and blame on me all the way back to when we first started dating. Which is a…

Just to offer an opinion, and this is a bit word gamish. But I'm being honest and sincere here. If she believes it's irreparable, and you know she believes that and she won't change her position or even try...then isn't it irreparable? Even if you think the core issues can be overcome, since she believes it's irreparable that does in fact make it irreparable.

I totally agree with you. Recording isn't a perfect "get out of jail free card" but rather just a piece of evidence to argue about. In my situation we don't have arguments and neither of us has ever gotten physical. I expect this to remain consistent even after she gets served. Rather, the things I say are frequently twisted to paint me in some unfavorable light. But it's subtle, just enough to be able to use the excuse "it was just a misunderstanding". It's those things that I want to guard aga…

In my area it's single prty consent. As long as I'm present, it's legal.

Lies, half truths, and various other forms of dishonesty are the hallmark of my current situation. Being able to defend against that non-sense is critical.

Do you need to accept that you've lost in the legal realm and just move on?

If the new girl marries you, then her family will probably keep hammering her with that and it could spell the end of your marriage. Unless her father approves and he can keep everyone inline.

If the opinions of others are going to dictate her actions, get out. Part of what destroyed my marriage was the external antagonists that my wife gave credence to. You don't need those external antagonists in your life and you don't need a partner that prioritizes them over you.

Welcome to being RP'd You'll drive yourself to suicide if you try to get her to admit to anything. I caught my wife dead to rights with her texts as proof and she still wouldn't take ownership. Stop asking why, and just figure out what you gotta do to move on. There's a lot of posts here and people have linked some good info on how to start that process.

I second the "she doesn't give a fuck" and I'd add to it that she has probably woven a story where you're the asshole. By denying you access to the children she's supporting that narrative and able to also get sympathy points from everyone for "her suffering".

Two things It sounds like this is too far gone, and quite honestly a lot of those statements from her are verbal abuse. Two, this has the theme that you've failed in husbandly leadership duties. Something to address moving forward.

Society and law have changed to tolerate and incentivize the worst of their behavior. What we're seeing is what happens when women can act without penalty. It's a multi-generational issue, after my wife decided to break bad I learned a lot. One of those things is that she and her sister are tolerant of their mother having affairs on their father. The whole lot of them are corrupt.

Civil and even pleasant. For my part I think it's better than it was before the decision was reached. not having to care about the long term, ie problem resolution, that caused me to let go of a lot of stress. I even flirt a bit, cause it's fun, and I think it messes with her head a bit and I just don't care.

Ya know, like 4-6 months ago I was honestly freaked out about it all. Now, not at all. I had thought that fixing things was the right things for the kids and then about a month ago it finally hit me that she doesn't see anything wrong with anything she has done. That flipped me 180 degrees and today I think that getting rid of her is the best thing for the kids. Now it's just navigating the terrible divorce laws of IA to get what I want.

For the last 12-18 months she's spread lies about me, she's had an affair, and her entire family are what I'd term "external antagonists"

I got that TY. I got a form, from a lawyer, that outlines a lot of what you included asset/finances wise, a pre-divorce checklist. But I hadn't gone as far as you recommended. I will now IA is a single consent state, so I can record conversations and will.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
