No one notices the guy and yet all these "incriminating" pictures exist of other men...

Fact checking would be blaming the "victim".

Still have no idea what all that Kickstarter money went towards, Anita.

I'm not disagreeing with that, but this propaganda gives the impression that the issue is rooted in sexism and completely one-sided. It needs to stop.

All of this silliness would come to an end if everyone could just admit that both genders are the problem. How is telling only one sex to stop doing something not fracturing gender relations and setting equality back?

I mean they do have a point. I had always assumed it was the guy's wife or girlfriend.

I knew there was probably more to this story. Maybe I was too quick to say "Fuck that guy." over in r/feminism.

More like I was concerned about well-intended MRAs getting taken advantage of.

I'm just glad to see an update over something I raised concerns about the other day.

Who do you think I am?

Because people are hypocrites? I don't know. They may not be lying. Maybe it's the hotel's policy not to discuss such matters. I think this is at least worth discussing, so the people that donated didn't do so under false pretenses.

Don't believe me. Call the hotel. Investigate what's going on(if anything). I need to do more of that myself.

What more can I do? I do not identify as an MRA, but I'm very sympathetic to it. I'm not a feminist either, and the same applies. I just want to get down to the bottom of this. I think it's important to look at everything with a critical eye, and if there indeed were no death threats, then that needs to be exposed. I don't know what I want to believe, personally. I don't want to live in a world where freedom of speech is derailed by death threats, but on the other hand I don't want to believe th…

I'm sorry that I've handled this sloppily.

I've updated the original post. I hope that's substantiation enough that an actual facebook conversation took place.

I meant the death threats that were alleged to have been made towards the Men's Issues Conference.

Sure, get the authorities involved. I can show them the conversation I had. I'm working on posting it currently. I don't know what is going on with the death threats. I'm just passing along what my friend told me in a IM on facebook.

What is so difficult about calling the hotel?

Which I wanted to have a discussion about and woefully failed in doing so. I'd post our facebook conversation, but I'm not tech savvy enough to do it. Ugh. This is so frustrating.

I had the same reaction initially. I have no idea what the truth is, but I want to get to the bottom of it.

What exactly do you want me to say or do so you know that my intentions are sincere?

This is from my facebook wall. This is who I am. I'm not a feminist troll in the slightest. "There appears to be an extreme disconnect between feminist and men who largely subscribe to the same ideals, but feel held back or ignored. I personally struggle with calling myself anything. Egalitarian makes the most sense, and feels the most inclusive, but the lack of actual organization makes calling one's self an egalitarian feel rather toothless. "I'm an egalitarian. Now what?" I want to join the f…

"It's 'something else'." I hope it is something else. I'm not lying about any of this. My friend knows that I often defend the MRA and she wanted to inform me of the fact that she called the hotel and they reported no instances of receiving any death threats. I enjoy AVFM and I have no interest in discrediting them completely. I thought it would be to everyone's mutual benefit to bring this to this subreddit's attention.

This is not my original reddit account, because I honestly just wasn't a fan of my old name. I know this seems suspicious and you have every right to be suspicious, but I implore you to simply call the hotel and find out for yourselves. I don't want to see people donating because of a lie.

I didn't have the discussion, but my friend called the Double Tree and spoke with a manager and that was their account of how the conversation went down. I mentioned that it was anecdotal and I included the phone number so anyone could call and find out for themselves. I called earlier, but only got a voicemail after being redirected to management.

Edited to include Detroit, MI. Sorry. I hardly post on reddit. I usually just lurk, but I couldn't stay silent about this.

I was about to attend this conference myself, until I was informed about this. I live in Indiana and this seemed like a prime opportunity to get with like-minded individuals, but if this is true I'm just at a loss for words for how betrayed by AVFM I feel.

If you call the hotel, the management staff appears to be unaware of any death threats. I already submitted a post about it - http://www.reddit.com/r/MensRights/comments/2748f7/this_is_anecdotal_but_troubling_news_about_avfm/

Are the statistics faulty? It's easy to be dismissive about the authors attitudes(I certainly am especially when they question men being "victims" of war), but what of the nuts and bolts of what they're saying?

Sorry about that everyone. I'm new to this.
