The whole issue is that if he follows a typically male path, he might not become something that he has the potential to do (e.g. dancing, nursing, carer). I can see where she is coming from in that sense, that he shouldn't be limited to one particular path (male). She's not gonna be changing lots of people's attitudes about pink = girl, and blue = boy.
