It's performative. When it actually happens, they choose the man. I know. When I hike in the woods and encounter a woman alone, she does not spray me with her bear spray. She smiles and says "hi" as we pass each other by. She does not warn other hikers that there's a man ahead like she would warn of a bear ahead. I'm certain she doesn't have to pause to consider if she should do these things.

I basically had the same story. I internalized all that stuff, hating myself for being male and viewing other men negatively. When discussing whether false accusations are a problem, the mere threat of false accusations is also not considered. The accusation doesn't even have to be made public in order to coerce someone into doing something. that's almost akin to what Destiny did. He could go to prison for that under revenge porn laws. I'm not so sure about that. I can't find a federal criminal law on revenge porn. The Florida law requires "intent of causing substantial emotional distress to the depicted person," so that intent would have to be proven. Every state is different, however, so unless they can find another state to bring a case, they may be limited to civil remedies.

I received a similar reaction when trying to discuss the man vs bear debate months ago. Paraphrasing, "men control the world, so their opinion is the default that we live with every day. We've already heard everything men might say." What an evil strategy to shut down the conversation.

The comments are page after page of women (based off of name) complaining that men are already the target of nearly all research in healthcare, so they don't need to research anything specific to men. See u/Cold_mongoose161's top level comment for information disputing this claim. They say the solution is obvious, men need to stop avoiding doctors. I've seen men of a minority group say that the problem with hate against men is that it hits men of minority groups too. The implication being that it's fine to hate white, cis, hetero, neurotypical, able-bodied men. They want to shrink the target group to exclude themselves, but they don't criticize the hate in itself. Personally, I think it's fine that he's mentioning race as a smaller part of the discussion in that it might help prevent this type of outcome.

As someone that regularly meets strangers in the woods, we just smile and say hello as we pass each other by. I've met many solo women hikers on forest trails. I've met solo women carrying their babies in hiking child carriers. None of them have shown terror. Most hikers carry bear spray, and I've never been sprayed.
