1	Filing taxes - divorce was final in October. File separately single or married filing separately? Yeah - not worth it. She’ll come at you with the reasoning that the return will be larger if you file jointly. Which is true. But she’ll steal it. Watch out for child support too - mine tried to have me mail a check months early because she was moving and afraid she wouldn’t get the check. Yeah - wasn’t buying that. But I said okay not intending to mail one until it was owed. Child support agency garnished my wages that month she claimed she’d be moving. 1	Filing taxes - divorce was final in October. File separately single or married filing separately? It doesn’t matter. You can file as separate while married. The IRS recognized long ago that one spouse can take the whole return and not split it. It’s filling single while married there is a category for that.
