I am not saying you haven’t worked on yourself. But it’s a daily thing you can do, and you can always improve. Lots of the time, you will fail. But you still try again. Because the alternative is never changing. As for autists who are virgins not by choice, especially at a later age, what is your alternative solution then? Because it might not even be their fault, but it isn’t womens fault either. If they’re not socializing with people (again, not their fault), it’s not like they get an opportun…

I didn’t generalize off the entire sub, I was referring to this post. And I wasn’t even generalizing, I said there are some examples here. There are plenty of others here who are fine. Maybe do some inward thinking, and consider what role you play in your lack of dates.

Also, you’ll meet several of these “mean” autistic people in replies to both this post and the original post. Autism or no, these are people who blame the world for their problems, lash out at any opinion that isn’t their own without even discussing, are aggressive and angry, and don’t seem open to listening to any different perspectives. Those types of people are not single because of poor social skills, but because that type of person is unpleasant to be around. These are people who right off …

I was more referring to the original post with that, where OP implied that autistic women are just quirky girls who are silly and don’t suffer from their autism. But yes, some people just can’t mask, I’m not disputing that.

That kind of seems like gatekeeping, classifying people as “not autistic enough”. Just because they don’t display it, doesn’t mean it isn’t something that they struggle with. Further, your anecdote of the autistic guys you know is ALSO a small sample size. I realize it’s kind of autistic to think your experience is universal (I’m guilty of this too), but your small sample size of autistic men you know is no more or less valid than mine. Autism isn’t a chemical in your blood, you don’t have highe…

Firstly, though masking is more common in women, autistic men mask too. Not all of them obviously, but to say that autistic men can’t mask isn’t correct. Second, obviously this is anecdotal, but I developed masking as a coping mechanism to appear more “normal”, and became a people pleaser, just displaying what I thought people wanted to see. The more I did it, the better I got at it. It isn’t something that came out of nowhere, it’s something I accidentally taught myself to deal with social outc…

It’s not “raped”, it’s sexual violence and abuse, which is a much broader definition and can include rape, but is not limited to it.

Holy shit ignoring all of my points and coming at my post genuinely trying to incite a thoughtful discussion with immediate aggression, replying like 3 times with the same thing. Maybe you not getting dates isn’t because of your autism, but because you’re extremely defensive and refuse to even hear an opinion other than your own. Do some self reflection before blaming the world for your problems

I don’t think you know what gaslighting means, and I am not trying to play the victim or downplay any struggles (that’s literally what I said right off the bat, might want to work on your reading comprehension). I’m just trying to offer a different perspective, for people who don’t have that. But whatever, enjoy your echo chamber

I’m sorry, what on earth is a “normal people autist”? Are we gatekeeping autism now? The reason these “normal people autists” have good social skills is because they learned them. NT people have social skills come naturally to them, while autistic people don’t, but it is absolutely something you can learn and get better at through both therapy and just practice. Yes, it is hard, and it’s harder for some people than it is for others, and it’s never going to be perfect. But it’s doable if you’re H…

The articles that talk about autism and reference undiagnosed women likely do that because women weren’t diagnosed with autism at all for the longest time, hell there are still a few doctors out there who don’t think women can be autistic. But yeah, there are plenty of undiagnosed men too, especially in older age ranges (my dad comes to mind), cause high functioning autism wasn’t diagnosed nearly as often then. While having a diagnosis doesn’t fix everything, it offers an explanation as to why y…

Thank you for your kind words, while I’m by no means in a perfect place, and struggle from time to time, I’m much happier now. :) I think it’s difficult, especially as an autistic person, to picture someone else’s struggles when you’ve never lived them. Men and women both have different types of struggles, but also, we share a lot of similar ones. I’ve seen a lot of mens perspectives on here, some of which I can relate to, others I can’t and had never considered. But having a genuine conversatio…

That 20% statistic if for all adults with autism, women and men both. So that’s a problem for both genders. Likely it is more reflective of men, because women are less likely to get diagnosed. So undiagnosed people (who again, are more likely to be women) aren’t included in that statistic. There are very few places to live nowadays where you can live on a single person income anymore. Housewife isn’t much of an option anymore, unless you have a job, in which case you’re now doing both your job A…

OPs experience is anecdotal too. There are plenty of successful autistic men who have jobs, get laid, and live happy lives. If you’re going to dismiss my experience because it’s just one example, then by that logic you’d have to dismiss his too. Also, please show me where I said “women have no advantages”. I am not trying to have an “oppression olympics”, I’m giving examples of my experiences as an autistic woman, to show it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. In fact, in the interest of fairness a…

As a woman with “high functioning” autism, I’ve got to hard disagree on this. Before I start, let me be clear on a few things 1. I am not invalidating men or autistic mens experiences, nor am I saying they don’t have it hard. 2. I am not claiming to speak for all women with autism. I’m just speaking from my own experience. I’m sure I’ve had it easier in some regards, and harder in others. For example, I was diagnosed with ASD (Asperger’s at the time) before I went to nursery school, which is cer…
