Yeah I was responding to a comment that the death penalty is a deterrent, which I don't think it is. I'm all for punishing high crimes harshly. Life without parole should always be on the table for heinous crimes. I don't support the death penalty because the system is human (thus flawed), irreversible if mistakes were made, I don't think the government should have the right to take someone's life, and I don't want people executed in my name with my tax dollars.

I see what you're saying. Typically that would fall under the heading of crimes of profit. It doesn't have to be a material gain. In crimes of profit, the criminal assesses the risks vs the profits, concludes that the profits outweigh the risks (when asked they almost unanimously say they didn't think they'd be caught), and therefore go through with committing the crime.

Obviously... it makes little sense to have such a long pre-adult period in the human animal (in which typically both parents play important roles) if the male also did not have serious biological imperatives to protect and care for the baby to make sure it survives. I've been thinking about something similar with the Femen "protests." If a bunch of men were to yell and run at Putin for example. Do you think his security team would have just restrained them? Highly doubtful. If they had been men some may have even been killed.
