it's interesting to think about a reversed situation. basically men just care when it's their feelings being crushed, not when it's the woman they're taking advantage of. men who treat women like this, dating them while pretending they're not, absolutely know what they're doing. they don't care though because they want to continue sleeping with the woman they're using for sex.

I think young women should start dating at whatever age they feel comfortable. That doesn't mean they shouldn't be cautious and take it slow, but I don't like assuming that someone's age dictates their decision making abilities. I'm sure there are young women out there with age appropriate partners who are treating them right.

It was pretty shocking at the time to find out they were dating because she was so much younger and her public image was sooo different from his. I think many of her fans were worried for her then because he seemed kind of scary and possibly unhinged. he turned out to be even worse :(

but she shows women how to be confident just by being herself and living her life. there's no need to ask her why or how she's confident. especially given that she's a crazy successful comedy writer and actor who clearly has a ton of accomplishments to be proud of.

maybe it is true and women's more feminine features are more conventionally attractive. but I'm sure the way our society sexualizes young women has a huge part in how we perceive male and female beauty.

it's really trippy to think about. i used to have this sense that women are naturally more attractive and beautiful than men are. And now i see it's just because girls and women are sexualized nonstop from such a young age that it's ingrained in our heads that they should be viewed in such a way. Men could be way more physically attractive if they tried, but they rarely do because their entire worth is not based on how pretty they are.

seriously. it's the perfect way to show how offensive and absurd these comments are towards women.

1 - Women don't orgasm often enough having sex with men, so she's paying him back. 2 - Joking that women can be lazy and men should serve them I guess? Lol this one is just silly basically 3 - Men only really care about sex and are concealing their actual intentions. 4 - Women seriously downplay their traumatic experiences to others.

this is beautiful, thanks for saying this. the difficult times definitely do make us more resilient and capable of doing better for ourselves, even if it doesn't always feel like it.

"like he's some celebrity who barely has time for a fan" owwwch that hit hard. it's almost hilarious for how real it is. i can't believe i ever entertained these losers. just cause they don't know what they want doesn't mean i can in any way affect that.

it's so tough to do this, when you were under someone's spell for so long. i find i have so much shame from taking all the bullshit for so many years that i really dislike that person i became. it sucks compromising your principles for someone who doesn't care about you. but i know ultimately we do have to move on and become a stronger version of ourselves.

this is 1000% true. it kind of hurts to recognize but is definitely empowering.

Wow that is a seriously comprehensive document! A good read, thanks for the link. There's a lot to consider there.

that's really what it's all about isn't it. we have to be kind to ourselves and move on from trying so hard to make something work that will never work. every man and woman has agency and can change their behavior and their life and they ultimately must choose to do so themselves.

You can be bi and be attracted to very masculine men and very feminine women, or any combination of anything! I think a lot of men put in very little effort in attracting women, so it puts women (especially bi women) in the weird position of comparing guys who aren't trying at all to women who are trying very hard. I'm sure this is heavily influenced by socialization and gender norms and all that, and it makes things confusing and quite frustrating. Just an edit to say that I think this could be…

I really like how clearly and logically stated this all is. You're not shaming any women who 'mother' the man they love, but rather explaining that this isn't going to achieve the results they want, the relationship they desire with a mature, responsible adult they would like to be in a relationship with.

Think Like a Man really? Wow I'll have to look at that. I was skeptical because it's based on a Steve Harvey book and he's usually very offensive.

Oh yeah watching romcoms is wild, especially ones like How to Lose a Guy where they're playing each other the entire movie. It's so hard to think of a romcom where the woman is getting with a high quality guy who seems like a catch and also shows he cares. There's usually so much toxic stuff back and forth between them also in these movies. But I can't lie I love watching them. It's definitely not a portrait of a healthy relationship though.

Is it self esteem? Sheer laziness? Fear? I'm definitely not here to make excuses for men who can't be bothered, but I find the lack of effort so baffling. Especially when it's people they're attracted to. Like what DO these men choose to make an effort with, if not people they're attracted to and want to be with?!

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
