Just get involved in something whether it's tech related or something that you see has the potential to give you connections to jobs. Be mature. Make friends with people older than you. As for the programming language, C# is good to know a lot of for back end and SQL is pretty much the industry standard for databases. Programming languages are fairly easy to switch over to because it's more or less the same logic.

Networking is key. I got the opportunity to interview for this job after going out to a bar with connections I made. Without getting too specific, I did some volunteer work in certain political events and met many people older than me who had the ability to recommend me. Expecting to get far on resumes alone isn't enough. What ultimately got me hired was some personal projects I showed off, but to even get the opportunity to interview for the position it was all about the networking man.

Read "The Subtle Art of Not Giving A Fuck" by Mark Manson, maybe it will give you some ideas (not necessarily absolutes for which to live your life). What you feel is indifference which isn't necessarily good. Not giving a fuck on irrelevant matters is good but you definitely do not what to be indifferent. Being indifferent is actually the opposite of not giving a fuck because you are giving a fuck about everything in order to drive you to be indifferent. The book goes into detail on that.

The computer science classes themselves weren't super difficult. I mean I actually really enjoyed a lot of the computer science concepts so I did decent. The difficult part for me was the math requirements. I had to take Calculus 1,2, and 3. Calculus 1 was easy but 2 and 3 were such a shit show. Thanks! I fully intend on making my way up in a few short years, it's just that this specific position was a unique opportunity that I got through a connection. Believe me I know. I worked on a coding project in which I lead a team of myself and four other people. One of the members was a female. She was 24 years old, so older than me, yet she contributed absolutely nothing. It wasn't even that she was incapable, she just cut class all of the time and expected the boys to carry the work for her. Thanks. I have an interview coming up for an IT position with a specific branch of state law enforcement (don't want to say exactly which, want to stay anonymous). The pay is only a little over $50k but they give me a car and the benefits are awesome. They also promise a $10k pay bump if I go through some additional training (which they pay me while I do it).

I'm not exactly prepared for the world either. Despite knowing some code and having worked on a couple of projects, I feel ridiculously underprepared for a job. A lot of CS is on the job training depending on the application since the field is so wide. We are both still young. Don't stress over the degree.
