Many of these "gender norms", like concepts of masculinity, are not just social constructs. Many are evolved responses to physiological conditions. Trying to tell men to "stop protecting" or "avoid self-sacrifice" is pushing up against constraints honed by millions of years of evolution. It's just not something that's going to be possible through any amount of social engineering. They can use the attempt statistics (ignoring the success statistic) to push for more help/awareness for female suicide.
