Look, can we drop the bad faith arguments here? I’m trying to meet ya halfway, If you wanna have an actual convo/debate I’m all about it but this feels super bad faithy to me and those are just a huge waste of time.

Oh yeah for sure you are correct when people are in a relationship. My comment was only in regards to like dates 1 or 2. Beyond that the two just kinda naturally develop into whatever the couple decides

Ah thanks for the explanation!

What does this mean?
/r/PurplePillDebate04/04/24 02:38 AM
3

Eh I’m not sure this is really accurate because relationships and people aren’t really like jobs…what we want or what we all consider a “good” job is probably pretty much the same. But what we want and what that looks like in a partner could be very different from person to person

Most men are absolutely not playing a numbers game. Most guys can’t even get enough dates to play a numbers game if they wanted to.
/r/PurplePillDebate04/04/24 12:33 AM
5

The expectation is if you agree to a date then you are interested. The guy doesn’t know anymore about you than you know about him. It’s disingenuous to imply that somehow we’re operating with completely different amounts of information….if you “don’t know” if you’re interested then you should be turning down the date.
/r/PurplePillDebate04/04/24 12:30 AM
2

Not really, if you’re trying to set the expectation that you’d like a 50/50 relationship which most women are. Then I think it makes a lot of sense.

What exactly is there justification for expecting men to pay? I tend to hear a denial of the expectation even when I know that to not be true…

Yes that’s exactly what I was saying. People should be looking for a person to love….men can be guilty of this too of course but it seems to be having a moment currently with women. You aren’t marrying a job or income, or status, or title…or at least you shouldn’t be. So I think a lot more people would be a lot happier if you started looking for a good person. I’m not really sure what his income or how much hes willing to spend matters as long as he contributes his share to the obligations. Unle…

Your last paragraph is probably the most stark difference in most peoples lived experiences. For all the talk of “emotional availability” men sure as shit don’t feel safe doing it, especially with women. Which should be a red flag that something is amiss. Men will usually do just about anything to get ahead with women. So Somebody’s lying….either women don’t really want emotional availability as much as they claim or men don’t want to be desirable to women as much as they claim……..I’ll let you d…

This really should be its own post the number of women I see that unapologetically say, “I’m looking for a man that brings something to my life, men aren’t competing against eachother they’re competing against my single life…” Can you imagine men in any real number saying something like this? Men have always selected women based on THEM, attributes that they PERSONALLY have. Woman do seem to be rather unapologetic about judging men nowadays on what attributes they PROVIDE rather than what they P…

Yeah this is definitely a lot of it. I actually think it’s kind of a mixed bag really. A lot of good to go along with the bad.
/r/PurplePillDebate27/03/24 05:51 AM

It’s called gaslighting. It’s not really a new phenomenon. Any sociologist or historian could tell you that the expectation placed on men is a lot more complex now than it ever has been. This is not a controversial take even if it might not align with the narrative that some want it to.
/r/PurplePillDebate27/03/24 05:47 AM

No because most of them do they just wait until they’re good and ready. Also, they typically get to settle down with an extremely desirable woman.

A lot of people here are getting tied up on the 76% of women vs. 62% of men saying they ended a LTR. I think this stat is causing some misunderstandings because there is a fundamental difference between men and women and relationships…that is it is a far smaller proportion of men getting into relationships than women. So it is masking these numbers and making them seem more equal than they really are.
/r/PurplePillDebate21/03/24 02:29 AM
4

Exactly this is a simple supply demand calculation. Men who have high self esteem and high standards are typically that way for a reason….they have options and they know it. This works the same way with women by the way. One factor that I think affects this a lot that nobody seems to talk about is…men have a lot more incentives to make them fight for making a relationship work (regardless of his options or lackthereof). Men take on most of the “work” of dating (ie initiating, planning/paying for…

“Money only works if you spend it” That’s a very good point. It can actually work against you if you have it but don’t spend it. A lot of guys think “oh she will think I’m responsible and financially sensible” when in reality, she just sees you as cheap and greedy.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/03/24 05:24 PM

Yes but I don’t mean having a temper at random things… maybe I should give a scenario if you and your girlfriend/wife are out to a bar enjoying a drink together and some guy comes by and slaps your wife on the butt if you as a man are like “eh whatever, she will be fine.” that wouldn’t be attractive to a woman, or very protective but it’s also what someone with zero temper would do. however, if some guy comes by and slaps your wife on the butt and you’re like, “what the fuck dude? I’m gonna kick…

Well I don’t mean it in the existential sense, it’s not good that they get fked and ghosted…but in the very practical reality of their situation…human connection is always better than pure loneliness/isolation.
/r/PurplePillDebate19/03/24 01:44 PM

I did not state any of these were absolute. You can always find exceptions. My point was the fact that a trait you find desirable very often stems from the same physical/psychological/sociological phenomenon that an undesirable trait stems from. You can’t get the “good” without the “bad.” You can’t completely get rid of one without getting rid of the other.
/r/PurplePillDebate19/03/24 09:08 AM

You’re 1000% correct, framing is EVERYTHING.
/r/PurplePillDebate19/03/24 05:31 AM

I think the cheating list is one of the most interesting social experiment ideas I’ve ever heard. Also…it would have to decrease it right!? Honestly I think the only reason cheating is so common is basically it’s one of the only truly horrible things you can do, that has implications for more than just yourself, that also comes with next to ZERO material consequences.
/r/PurplePillDebate19/03/24 04:56 AM

Your honesty is extremely refreshing.
/r/PurplePillDebate19/03/24 04:50 AM

A lot of the traits that women are attracted to come from what most people would call “traditional masculinity” even if they don’t realize it. The problem is that the very same characteristics that create the desirable parts of masculinity also lead to the less desirable parts (toxic masculinity)…examples: “Want a man that makes me feel protected”…but “don’t want him to have a temper or be combative”. “Want a man whose ambitious and self supporting”…but “don’t want him too opinionated or selfish…

Evolutionary psychology does NOT state that men are polygamous. In fact, polygamy isn’t even a psychological or evolutionary phenomenon. You need to hit the books more before forming such strong opinions…or at the very least…before sharing them.

Agreed my mom always made more than my dad while she worked. I will say though he definitely picked up his side of things when it came to child rearing and the household. The thing that slightly uncomfortable though is that at times (rarely) things would be said or mentioned in passing and I think there was a little resentment from my mom that she made all the money. It really leaves a bad taste in your mouth as a man when you see that.

no one just lets themselves get punched in a fight. It just happens without them expecting it. The problem with this example is it assumes that the two parties in said fight are "equal." In real life, thats gonna be like 99.9% of the time in the guys favor.

Most women expect the man to pay for a date, especially the first date, ESPECIALLY if he was the one that asked her out. It is definitely a strike against a guy to not pay. Even women who aren't outright offended are at least a little disappointed. I'm no redpiller either. I pay for EVERY date 100% regardless, but that's because I was raised that way.

One way I'm usually able to tell this on the first couple dates is there will be a very "job interview like" feel to the date and the first couple times we hang out. It will feel almost like you're auditioning to be a part of her world rather than trying to have a good time with potential romantic interest. Another way is when they're constantly steering the conversation to more controversial topics or taking pretty benign comments of yours and asking follow up questions in a very intentional wa…

It’s because of what they want. It just inherently harder to deliver what women want from men then what men want from women. Most men just want a woman whose nice, pretty, and would be a good mom. Well I can't speak to red pills or whatever they're calling themselves but I do know a bit about social science and can say that you're not understanding that men cannot be lower than women in sexual mating value because men and women are on TWO COMPLETELY SEPARATE SCALES. They aren't compared to each other in determining SMV. If you want to say women get more attention or have more options or can be more selective then that's fine (I'd actually agree with you)... but none of those is the same t…
/r/PurplePillDebate26/11/23 09:32 AM

It's not how I define it, it's just how experts in the field define it. men are more hypergamous than women because women have more sexual mating value than men. I don't think you understand sexual mating value. It is how potential mates rate your attractiveness in comparison to the competition. men and women can't have more or less sexual mating value than each other (as groups) because they are on their own scales respectively. Does that make sense?

Hypergamy specifically refers to marrying up in class. Most people actually marry within their own class so RP is even wrong on that one. I agreed with pretty much everything youve said up until this. "Hypergamy" as a term in social science typically includes more than just "class." This is because "class" is usually shorthand for socioeconomic status (your level of formal education+income/wealth). Hypergamy in the social science literature is the act of trying to find a mate with a higher sexua…

I think this is an opinion that on its face seems intuitive but just isn't in reality. When it comes to relationships as a man, I always expect my girlfriend/wife to come first. If we ever have kids, then that means I get bumped to third chair (which I would take happily because I just became a new dad). Most men (myself included) EXPECT to take a backseat to their wife and children. We wouldn't have it any other way...it's the way it's supposed to be. It's a point of pride for many of us . I th…

Yeah I’d love to see you make that argument in front of a bunch of stay at home mothers/fathers “You see, you’re just the support role to the actual adult. You cook and clean and then service them when they get home….” You must be either young, very ignorant or probably just both.

Wow you are so far off. I don’t think there was even one word in there that was backed up by numbers other than the fact women do more house work than men.

This is just not true. I don’t understand why anyone would even try and make this argument. Most women want kids, most men want kids, and both their lives are changed dramatically by having kids.

Yes and many men do but remember life is also happening to these guys. It’s not like a bunch of them are just deciding to not go cuz they’re lazy. College ain’t easy. Additionally a lot of guys decide to go into other careers where college wouldn’t be useful like the trades.

I’ve seen some really interesting studies on it(I tried to find the source for you but couldn’t find it). It largely seems to be a combo between women only dating college educated men combined with the fact that college educated individuals are more likely to have frequent contact with eachother than with non-college educated (because they work in the same places)

Wow holy shit…..I’ve been following along in this thread this whole time and thought I was gonna agree with you. Then I read this comment….and now I kinda think you’re just as toxic as some of the redpillers.

It’s unfortunately a “when it benefits me” kinda thing. But women aren’t guilty of this anymore than any other gender. This is just how people operate. Look no further than the NIMBY phenomenon. Every progressive wants affordable housing built, until you suggest building it next to them. Every progressive wants school children going to the best schools, until you suggest the tax hikes required to fund it.

Well kinda…the things isn’t really that he questions his worth. Unfortunately his wife/girlfriend will make him question his worth. Men aren’t doing this in a vacuum. It’s because when a relationship gets hard (which they all do at some point) and a man is under earning his spouse, women will raise questions that usually aren’t there if the husband/boyfriend is out earning her. Questions like…”is this even worth it?” Or “what does he REALLY bring to the table?” “Would I feel this way if I was wi…

Just noticed after reading through the comments….why does everyone try to make this issue about getting laid? Like WTF? The male loneliness epidemic that is so often cited is WAY bigger than a handful of horny teens. It’s about men in there 30s through 50s not having friends. It’s about how men in their 30s consistently tell pollsters they’d like to get married and have children but either can’t afford to or can’t meet anyone. Then you look at Reddit and no joke there’s comments in this thread t…

This is the best answer. It’s crazy to think but literally 99% of this whole problem could be solved by simply giving men more money (in particular less educated men). Which as a liberal I think would probably even help solve a handful of other issues in the process.

I do think that OP is right we have failed men. I think where we differ is when it comes to the next part… I find it pretty ironic when some people all of a sudden kinda shrug their shoulders when the issues boys and men face are discussed. It’s especially ironic when self proclaimed feminists to do it (luckily I don’t think the majority do). You can’t be all about equality and then only pay attention to the problems facing people like you.

Yeah you get it. I’m right there with ya. The thing that I’ve noticed with most of these straight gender/mating discussions on Reddit is both sides (however you define it) are constantly listing characteristics they expect of a certain gender then completely ignoring the trade offs those very things cause. I liked your line above…”extremely dominant moderately traditional men”….”who are not threatened by feminine power.” That pretty much sums up what lacks in so many of these threads so kudos to…

That’s a very interesting take. So not being handy makes you not a problem solver? I’m not sure I follow the logic…because even if most men aren’t handy anymore….theres still a hell of a lot more handymen then handywomen.

No, Im saying 25 year olds are basically children

I think that’s selling men pretty far short. When you say they aren’t good enough problem solvers what do you even mean by that?

What would an example or moderately traditional man be in this example? I’m having a hard time picturing exactly what that is.

Dude if you are looking at 25 year olds to develop your ideas of human attraction….you’re gonna have a ROUGH time. They’re basically the adult equivalent to kindergarten.

I would say that childcare is more equal today than it’s ever been and still heading in the right direction. Unfortunately societal norms don’t just change over night. Also, men still make the majority of the money and work a majority of the hours as well. Luckily this this trend is becoming more equal as well. Basically, everyone’s doing the best they can with what they’ve been given. Let’s not be onesided and act like everything is all on one gender in a relationship because that isn’t what th…

Okay your first comment I agreed with a lot but this one is a lot of finger pointing and half truths. You’re acting like a 1950’s take on gender roles and parenting is the dominant one……it’s not.

/r/PurplePillDebate03/11/23 09:50 PM

Is that what I said?
/r/PurplePillDebate02/11/23 08:33 PM

OP with all due respect, most relationships in history were NOT based on women needing men. They have been based on two people liking each other and deciding to build a life and have children together. I think you’re listening to a very insecure, jaded, and small group of men. The vast majority of men would like to be in a relationship for the same reasons most women do…..love.

Don’t put any stock in what people identify as. I’m liberal and worked in politics and it literally means next to nothing. We don’t even use it in our polling most of the time.

Yeah I like the way you broke that down 👍. Whenever I hear people use the phrase “touch grass” I often feel like this is the topic that it would be best applied to. Most people do NOT meet their SO on apps or the internet contrary to what pop culture would have us all believe.

Eh kind of but this wouldn’t apply so starkly to most men. But to men that this woman would find attractive, (the 200k a year and up earners) it would apply much more acutely. It’s also the same for women btw, but to a lesser extent just because they have a window of time to have babies. So even if they’d like to keep playing the field, at a certain point they have to pick.

I’ve read a ton of these lists and I really like the way you put this, especially the first and last bullet points….essentially try to weed out arrogant/overly self important people.

Yeah OP is showing Reddit bias. We actually have an acronym for it….W.E.I.R.D (western educated, industrialized, rich democratic) the bottom, 40% of the population doesn’t even make enough money to pay income taxes on. How are they supposed to know how to pay taxes? The bottom 40% of the population also doesn’t ever own a home. how do they know anything about mortgages?

There is a problem with your definition of "career achievement." "LinkedIn, spearheading project initiaves on their profiles- occupying higher positions and being young speakers at conferences- moving forward in higher education (my master’s program is majority women)." All of those qualities only apply to people that go to college, are on-LinkedIn, and typically want to work in the corporate sector. You just cut out like 2/3 to 3/4 of the population and then you make assumptions about those peo…

You sound very young…stability CAN be had without a man/partner…..but probability kinda owns possibility in life. Most people learn that lesson by their 30s which is why you typically start to see people warm up to the idea of settling down with someone. It’s also why you start to see people either get 1. Much more realistic about their options/expectations for a partner or 2. Get a lot more lonely.
