There is a lot of truth to that. Chronically online people obviously would be more present in online spaces but being online more means having your brain melted by algorithms. I'm hesitant to say there is a correct definition, it's certainly not a monolith but there are several legitimate definitions including that more limited feminism, which I do find more respectable in its honestly for focusing on women. The playing loose with data is always really interesting to see to. How data that agrees with me is good data and data that disagrees is bad data. Unreported data in particular is a massive issue for people when convenient and swept under the rug when not.

Being a feminist is not nearly enough for those mods, you have to be the right type. Its wild how normalized this is on social media, and how its spread to be mainstream from what was once relatively more fringe. It's the default now, especially in certain communities. I find this topic one of the easiest tests for if someone has genuine empathy for men, along with incels. While a lot of the "toxic" parts are rightly criticized, what's often left unsaid or disproportionately minimized are the underlying reasons that lead men to these communities. It does seem like people are flying blind. A lack of empathy, analysis, and understanding means even well intentioned people can be way way off. We stand on the shoulders of giants for many social issues. There have been movements and libraries worth of books written about various issues that act as a reservoir for people to draw from when stepping into it. MRA can be a lot of venting and surface level analysis. While that's understandable, there isn't really a systematic viewpoint which is needed to address problems so very much agree with your take. Something like "keep crying your male tears" isn't gaslighting but is a pretty nasty thing to say, and in some context could be outright hateful or misandrist. Curious if you noticed something similar, after the first time butting heads with a mod I realized the comments I made there often went unposted or took days to be approved. Wasn't even aware their moderation required approval until then but it basically killed my peak interest. My recent ban was my first comment there is a while. I think at least in principle their supposed to allow criticism in their weekly meta threads but I haven't tried that to know if it actually applies.

One thing I will say is that there are not a lot of left wing but male advocating spaces and I think r/menslib gets a lot of well meaning people like yourself go through a churn where they try to make it work because the potential is there, only to find the overcorrection and dogma stifling. Thanks, really appreciate the history. You will see feminists say "men are hurt by patriarchy too" ad nauseum, at least from what I've seen. The issue I have with feminists is that in practice they aren't actually intersectional in a way that includes men in meaningful systematic analysis but at least in principle there is quite a bit of recognition that men can be disadvantaged as a class.

While I'm not a fan of the term I have noticed that with "toxic masculinity" its forgiven when it's the enemy. Shaming a man you don't like for being bald, short, fat, virgin, unmanly, and so on isn't just tolerated it's the default progressive response online. If something is genuinely considered inappropriate, like making fun of someone's race or handicap, its rightly considered off limits but even then you have ways around it.

For transparency the banned comment/response was: Boys are left behind in school its their own fault. When girls are left behind in school it's societies fault. That is actually a pretty good example of the lack of empathy and systematic analysis for men's issues often seen in progressive spaces, I'm just curious what you are even doing here with those beliefs.
