While this is a great breakdown on masculinity in media and specifically in the masterpiece that is RDR2, I can’t help but feel like this is the good ol’ “sacrificial masculinity” that conservatives tend to like so much. Positive masculinity are just things that make a positive human being. However, I have noticed that people often see positive masculinity as being sacrificial instead of seeking security and we need to show that being selfish as a man is not a bad thing.

Hmm, I guess. I always find that talking about having empathy for men words better on the common person, but the common person might be a bit more skeptical of feminist narratives than your average professor.

References, references, references! I’ve been in this position and the most important thing to do is to consistently cite your sources for all of the claims that you make and use emotional language that evokes empathy for men and men’s issues.

Well, look at the amount of women who identify as feminist. It’s certainly not all, or even an overwhelming majority of women. Look at the number of women that support equal rights for each gender, it’s nearly 90-95%. I think that goes to show that there’s something else to identifying as a feminist aside from “equality”.

Post feminist is a helluva lot better imo. I’ve always called myself “non-feminist” but I like this label better since it has a progressive connotation and rightfully frames problematic aspect of feminism as conservative.

This is a good point. As male victimization comes some what in the spotlight, feminist groups have shifted from outright denial of its existence to promoting “healthy” masculinity by outright gaslighting victims. It’s extremely frustrating especially among young cis privileged women.

Yes, I think we will to be honest. It’s already increasing now and while a lot of the worst parts of the feminist movements resist it, I think normal everyday people have a lot more empathy
