Interesting to know. We call suicide the "disease" in France then categorise by outcome (aborted, attempted, successful). If by suicide you mean successful though then yes it is somewhat a predominantly male outcome, once again, more due to methods than intent.

Indeed M/F suicide rate is close to equal. Highest suicide rate in termes of "success" is in elderly males. Mainly due to cause of death being firearms or hanging, what we consider "violent suicide". Younger people and women tend to go the medication route and most meds shouldn't kill you (at least not at the rate that hanging does) + you can change your mind halfway through (with a bullet in your head or hanging by your neck it's somewhat more difficult).
