True. But just because they are viewed by millions, does not mean they are taken onboard. A lot of people are just fascinated with the bizarre and unusual. They like to weigh concepts against their own belief systems. There are so many philosophies, religions, concepts, opinions, literature, movies, advertising and media of various kinds in the modern world. Millions of people view millions of concepts every day. Particularly online. You are exposed to a huge amount of material every day, you ha…

Education is a problem. It is a real problem as education is foundational to life path. Funnily enough, I actually think this is more a problem for boys than girls. At that stage, parents have a much higher chance of influencing concept. Plus there is always the option of same sex schools which seem to be excelling in educational outcomes for girls.

Yes, I’m interested in that as well. The Red Pill being introduced to young kids (particularly girls) in middle school, pre dating, all in the hands of the interpretation of 11- 16 year old boys. All being responded to by teachers, parents and other authority figures. It could serve to be an immunisation to the red pill. It could also fuel same sex schools which is problematic for boys education.

If you walked past the vast majority of individuals you come across online, you would never dream of asking them to sit down in a coffee shop and tell you how you should feel about yourself or how you should live your life. The internet creates a level of separation, It allows you access to a wide range of diverse people with a huge range of motivations, absolutely no need for truth, and filters out any addition sources of judgment other than text or edited visual cues. It’s interesting because …

Yes, I have the basic idea on your philosophy I think. But you didn’t answer my question: what do you think the social security programs do? Targeted, what are the broad range of social programs targeting? Edit to be clearer.

Sounds like a society where there is very little ability for social movement without criminal activity or desperate acts. Also where there is a strong hold of the wealthy and educated over the underclass (both men and woman). Such a waste of human potential. Less education and innovation, the potentially strong struck down with disease, the smart limited by education and opportunity. Might also see an increase in guillotine sales.

Im more interested in how AI impacts right across the lifespan and how it overall influences socio engagement. Kids will be able to make AI friends from a very young age to bond with and offer support. Like support animals or imaginary friends who attend on their first day at school, and offer support to all of life’s little challenges. The friend can grow developmentally and validate along the way. AI can change sex, personality, and can be tweaked along with appearance. Download and upload to …

I think a lot of these arguments are primarily about trying to leverage the abortion issue to the financial abortion issue. Many think: Abortion ————-> should be logically in line with Financial Abortion. There is no way it can work because —————> money. Is it really all or nothing? No, not at all. But from what I can see, when folks settle into a “debate” about this particular topic they tend to retreat to their corners and settle into these bizarre caricatures. You can see how silly it looks right? In reality, most folk just settle into a mix that works for them so they can manage a fast moving and complex world. Even that as a concept however seems to ignite displeasure and censor from some folk (men included), as they seem to embrace such a …

So, a few quick questions so I’m clear on your version on a financial abortion: father’s who want to “financially abort” from their offspring, do they also “abort” all legal rights in the process? So they sever completely all rights to their offspring in the process? can fathers who divorce their pregnant wives have the right to “financially” abort if the foetus is within the abortion window of each state? if young people still under age get pregnant, do their parents make the decision to financ…

Well, that was my point. She can absolutely phone from the shop, but once again standing on the street and staring is not likely to get a quick police response. The police don’t tend to rush out for “staring”. So at some point she is going to have to leave. And yep, she has a phone both at the shop and the bus stop. But once again her best option is getting on the bus. I guess she could phone a cab from the shop. Assuming she can afford one. OP chose to do what he thought he had to do. He obviou…

Probably not. He could have easily have stood outside the shop (on the street) and just waited for her to come out. She would have the same issue trying to get on the next bus. Her best bet was hanging out in the group (not getting separated)and get on the bus. If he tried to get in the bus, she can then tell the bus driver as he has authority on who gets on. Option two is phoning the police and reporting. There is a fair chance that the police would inform that “staring” isn’t a crime or that t…

It was never suppose to be perfect. This is why your message is a hard sell. The fact is, being tapped directly into the economy with employment has benefits that tend to balance the negatives on a whole. Woman outside direct access were always tapped into the economy anyway. They were limited by either their husband’s capabilities, the whim of the economy or the way their household budget was managed. The problem was they were one stepped removed and had less control over how it was spent and i…

I think it’s on fire at the moment, and it will remain so for quite some time. I’m old, so was privy to the conversation to some degree when the conversations were being had among woman from the great generation, silent generation, boomers and X Gen. Perhaps, but then what are the percentages of “immigrants who chose to leave” (with the depth of educational and resource barriers similar to the Amish) and those that stay in their birth country? It’s stark right? Absolutely tiny. Then consider some of the possible motivations for taking the risk? War? Poverty? Persecution? It’s not all about human raw risk taking qualities, sometimes it’s as simple as leaving is less risky than staying. Sometimes it also comes down to pure opportunity. In fact…

There is a variance between sect. Not overly surprising, but I did get the gist that the core basic principles hold? At least from the link you provided. That is a big question! I doubt it is easily answered, and it will be clearer to view in hindsight but if I had to guess it’s a mixture of: societal expectations around being a “good woman” commitment has traditionally been connected to matrimony, which has been considered the correct environment for children. social expectations that woman will grow up, marry and have children. laws and social constructions surrounding matrimony What will be interesting is to see how the shift in social expecta…

They are useful for sustaining life, comfort, access to opportunity and influencing other influential people to do stuff for you - high social networks (invaluable). Korean beauty standards for men are different … Possibly, though the study was international as BTS have a successful international following, so you will need to stretch that out a bit wider as a concept. You are putting the cart before the horse. My understanding is that BTS is mostly an assembled group by Big Hit Entertainment selected by auditions and casting. If they thought a “manly” man would draw more interest, they had/have the capacity to cast as such. BTS are big money. So he is willing to sacrifice a conscious woman fully cognisant of pain and incoming death? Aware that they are being denied a safe method of escaping their situation and forced to endure? I actually find that incredibly disturbing. Forcing others to die such a death when there is a life saving option readily available is almost beyond comprehension. By far more disturbing than the concept of removing cells.

Nice, compounding factors So we agree therefore access to financial resources beyond “the basics” hold substantial benefits to outcomes? We have come full circle, this is why I feel your first point in the OP is detrimental to outcomes. Your second paragraph I disagree with. Many are hostile to the disadvantages and behaviours that result from disadvantage. We also have legislation to address that. If the outcomes are more positive demographically, versus the other option then it’s a hard sell.

In regard to point 1, I think this is a challenging concept. Post divorce the child’s environment would undergo a far greater disruption if current earnings were not taken into account. This is not consistent with keeping the child central (rather than gender politics) to this piece of legislation. It would mean disruption to the very basics of their existence wh…

Ok, this is an interesting perspective you have here. I do believe that women will indeed progress into those “dirty” jobs you are thinking of. Particularly if they are well paid. Humans are delightfully diverse and weird. It’s why the nature vs nurture argument is so damn interesting. We really are quite extraordinary. I wish we would appreciate it a bit more instead of excessively screaming at each other to get back in a box and shut up.

Sure it’s deceptive. Lots of things we do to be more attractive are deceptive to the senses. Men don’t actually smell like “old spice” (or whatever your preference is) particularly if they have been hanging out in a warm night club for a few hours. Nor do a lot of their backs or chests feel beautifully smooth (if that is your preference) if they don’t wax. We do lots of weird stuff - tattoos, piercings, perfumes/scents, hair/beard gels, waxing, dental bleaching/braces to improve the experience. …

The terms of the contract are simply that and outlined prior to entering. In this particular case, for marriage the terms of the contract are that one individual can if they go through the established legal procedure exit the contract. It is well established legally, that under no fault divorce, one person can apply to leave the contract.

I understand they happen. We are talking about leadership roles and “who is ultimately in charge”. There is a decent chance, either male or female, good old fashioned nepotism played a role before gender quotas. If you are a woman with nepotism on your side, you weren’t exactly lining up for your place in the gender quota to begin with were you?

Nonsense. You and I both know that woman are performing very well in lower and upper education and it’s working its way through many areas of employment. Feel free to win the “debate” I really don’t care, but the nonsense is boring.

It’s marketing, nothing more. It’s content to be sold. No different to making content for travel shows, cooking shows, cars. They are huge sellers. Don’t be silly, it makes a great deal of difference who is in charge. It makes no sense at all worrying about something as inconsequential as to whether that person is a man or a woman. Dude, women already hold leadership positions in society. There is nothing new. Chances are if you are a normal everyday person, there are both a man and woman holding a position of power directly over your life that could make extraordinary positive or negative changes and there is very little you can do about it - policy, legally, promotions, the person who marks your assignment, your boss, your doctor/ surgeon, your landlord…. If you are talking about “ruling the world?” Or an ultimate power?…

Incorrect. Everything else is not held constant. What you are now primarily measuring is the value of “class” and we already have known the inherent value of social classes for generations. There are two primary ways of shifting between the social classes - marriage and/or education. You have allocated the man both benefits. She will marry him if she is not a fool but not because his age isn’t suddenly not a consideration or insignificant. You also already know the statistics on the general outc…

It’s not entirely positive, but there is a recognition that “making waves” leads to a much higher chance of success than more passive behaviour, …

I think this is a complicated theory that ignores the most obvious factor. Economic reality and common adult life goals. If the standard adult wants a house these days most couples will need two viable, stable incomes. If you want children, or even one child, there is likely to be a period of time where your costs will need to be covered by one. Even if it’s just post birth recovery. Then both will probably need to return to the workforce and both need to do home related tasks if you want to avo…

You can expand out from this as well. It’s unrealistic to think it will start at dating. A child can create an AI best friend at a very young age. Therefore if they are no longer willing to do so, then it is their collective responsibility to either provide or fund an alternative service? Ok, but the problem is that it’s complicated and almost impossible to do both in a societal framework or legally. There is also the rights and wellbeing of 3 people (after birth) that societal and legal frameworks have to account for, not 2. It also has to default and the default position is that everyone retains the rights over their biological prodigy. The timeframe to wave those rights is very tight, the fallout huge, and once again crashes into the rights of others. In other words, it’s comp…

No, I don’t think it is in any way a slavery thing. In fact not even close. I think it is actually a developmental thing, and also extremely natural. Young people change, grow, educate (formally or informally), on a spectrum into adulthood. They don’t have a birthday and then “bam!” adulthood. Any more than childhood is fixed on one developmental stage. Adulthood itself is a spectrum, we divide it into life stages for a reason. Brass tacks. Meaning: to start to discuss or consider the most important details or facts about something. It’s a great saying. I looked up where it came from after I read your comment. This is what I found: Why do we say "getting down to brass tacks"? The origin of the first phrase, dating from the late 1800s, is disputed. Yes, I believe so, quite a few don’t though because it is quite hard to make work. Everyone has good intentions in the beginning but some find themselves not following through. For instance, you promise your wife that once both children are old enough for daycare she can get her nursing qualifications and focus in her career. However in that time you have earned a considerable promotion and the family doesn’t actually need the money from her working as a nurse. It also won’t reflect well in your…

True. The difference is 50/50 in dating or LT relationships. In LT relationships a viable strategy is 50/50 across the marriage rather than in the moment and it requires trust, determination, support and communication to make that happen. If both people have education/ employment goals then sometimes you might have to take turns, a sacrifice will probably be made by both of you, and who goes first will be determined by both of y…

We do, sure but lying can be a very widely wielded weapon. It’s convenient to shrug it off when you are trying to justify your behaviour (or concept) but you must remember that it is very easy to do and can be used against you just as easily and the applications are very wide. Lying is also generally judged right across the spectrum. It’s not like it is going to be parsed out for this instance.

Yes, exactly. You can get married in a church in Vegas by Elvis on a weekend in May to some boy you met in a club and not see each other for 5 years. I think marriage signified a kind of permanence for conservatives. They feel there was some security/stability in marriage and they feel that no fault divorce weakened all that it signified. They are right in a sense. But no fault divorce was only a link in the chain and it’s taking more blame for the reduction in permanence than it deserved. Marriage is both a legal and conceptual entity and was strongly reinforced on both fronts by a lot of societal elements. A lot of those elements have chang…

Parents have the right to seek a paternity test if they feel it is necessary. No, I would not want my child’s DNA taken for testing automatically without my permission under a mandatory law. Obviously doing so for specific medical reasons is different and should there be a need I would be making a fully informed decision under consultation with a medical practitioner and making the best possible decision for the health and wellbeing of my child at that time. I don’t care if other parents choose …

Absolutely, thats is basically what it comes down to. You can go on and on using boring terms like socioeconomic groups, similar ages, similar norms, values, life goals, family background as this is where most people find their “kind” just because people align most often, it’s kind of easy mode. Obviously people find a person outside of that as well because people are complex. But you are right, you cut to the chase.

No one cares. Well to be more accurate, most people don’t care unless your n count falls way outside of the norms of the community you live in. You can pretty much google what is common place for your country. Around that number is what most people recognise and tolerate as normal. It’s who they are marrying and having children with. Hell, Grandma doesn’t even care anymore for the most part. If Grandma doesn’t care then most people won’t care.

Ok, I think your point is valid and interesting to discuss but “ Most younger Gen Z women in their early to mid 20’s are dating older men in their 30’s” is not what the article says. As of 2022, Pew Research Center found, 30 percent of U.S. adults are neither married, living with a partner nor engaged in a committed relationship. Nearly half of all young adults are single: 34 percent of women, and a whopping 63 percent of men. Yep. It also notes where at least some of those women are spending th…

Gosh you guys are hard on each other. This man appears to have done some very real groundwork on working out what would work within the life he wants to live and appears to have acted on that to find someone who fits. He also appears to have avoided the whole “she’s pretty so I will try and shape her to what I want” scenario that often ends in disaster. Your response? Yep, good points, but are you taking into account current housing costs, cost of living and cost of raising a child? It makes having children increasingly unattractive on the approach, and limits the number by default without OP’s complications, and means both parents are probably both accessing the labour market. However in the scenario, should a couple have children and both are accessing the workforce and one party wishes to end a marriage the default is unlikely to be a traditional marriage …

Absolutely not. I very rarely believe in absolutes when people are involved. People are remarkable and one of the extraordinary things about them is how they differ in conceptualising things. I think it’s a language and conceptual gap that is quite common in text and different expectations. What you call a “pumped and dumped” some people would just call a reasonably pleasant Saturday night where expectations were pretty pragmatic from the start. Plus people are pretty resilient around sex these days, not everyone holds huge expectations that it will be more so they don’t necessarily feel “pumped and dumped” or shamed when it turns out to be a fleeting contact.

There is no rational nor stoic here. Violence in the community costs money, time and resources towards the victims alone. The perpetrators of violence costs money, time and resources dealing with them. Police, court, incarceration often for years. Then there is the fallout. Children exposed to violence (or being the victim), loss of stability, emotional damage. As you pointed out yourself, the damage can continue for years. In fact the damage can continue across generations. Pointing all that ou…

There is no winning that argument, if that is the benchmark then it really just means not playing the game at all. Aging is inevitable- full stop. But pregnancy does some really “surprising” things to the average human body. Whether you want to believe or not, most people are going to have physical changes after pregnancy/breast feeding even if you loose the weight gain and get back your fitness. I’m not sure people really realise the after effects of stretching their skin to that degree, carryi…

Hmmm, I’m not sure but I think there used to be a social element in there somewhere - particularly if you are talking about large age gaps with young men. For instance, if an older woman had been seen to attempt to engage sexually with one of my sons when they were very young adults I would intervene and be furious whereas I wouldn’t be concerned if it was a younger woman around the same age. In the case of an older woman I view it predatory. My reasoning is that she would have more power to dis…

I think your question is valid and it’s also a tricky one. However I don’t think it really matters. It’s a bit like the chores argument, even if it was proven to be true with undeniable data which is rock solid the outcome is not likely to result in anything meaningful as those that are carrying the mental load in the house (whether they be male or female) will find it very hard to redistribute. Organisation, scheduling, planning or whatever you want to call it is a skill and the results are not…

My point basically was my experience of feedback from family was different than yours (the original post I replied to) and I didn’t identify with it at all. In regards to who you partner up with, after all the pros and cons are discussed, I think the bottom line is that people will for the most part pair up with those within their socioeconomic group, around a similar age and with similar norms and values. It’s simply what they recognise and identify with, it makes sense to them and there is com…

Making financially viable decisions is a sound strategy no matter the subject, including education. Education is an investment, the return should be attractive and maximised. Everyone can experience circumstances that impact financial stability, being uneducated or having an uneducated partner is not going to assist. In fact, that is one the reasons having two educated individuals within a family is beneficial- it buffers against injury/poor health, retrenchment, and allows for talking advantage…
/r/PurplePillDebate16/04/24 10:07 PM

I’m not talking about just the men in my family, I’m talking about both sexes. I’m not arguing with your perspective, I just think it’s entirely odd. Education, as your family would know, is central to socioeconomic status. Socioeconomic status is central to opportunity, opportunity is central to wealth generation. Without education everything is harder.

I read your post twice with interest and don’t identify at all. Due to my age and large family network I have/had direct contact with women and men spanning two generations back from you (Great Gen and Silent Gen) and none of them held/hold this opinion. I use to also put this forward as bit of wisdom for the whole “chores” debate as well. Open to having my view changed. Your view is kind of irreverent. You know the laws, you know the consequences. It’s like trying to convince someone that theft/fraud is not beneficial as obviously getting free money or goods is neat. There are consequences and they are very high. The argument for and against the actions and costs of theft/fraud could be lengthy, very boring and irrelevant. Ultimately it comes down to - you know the laws, you know the consequences.

Well, the opposite of being single is “partnered”. So it simply means that by choice, you are choosing to not be partnered. You simply choose to not enter into a relationship where you psychologically or legally are considered partnered, it doesn’t really matter why.

Never saw it in practice. You kind of have as a social concept, at least if you live on planet earth. Shared socioeconomic factors/norms/values are core to relationships - including marriage. While you might not have seen my example of a bakers daughter marrying a millers son, I’m sure you can expand that out to see what concepts are at play here and where it is used more widely with a social structure.
/r/PurplePillDebate11/04/24 12:42 AM

social aggression and attacks are women’s replacement for physical violence. This is a social reinforcement strategy as old as time. Slut shaming is a classic example of this. Social gossip has been around for ever - “he’s a bit of a lad!” Unpleasant but true. People don’t really seem to mind until they become the subject and then it is all very “unfair” or “problematic”.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/04/24 11:54 PM

But is that something that happens? Kinda, as a concept. It was basically short hand for the complexity that surrounds marriage in terms of its socioeconomic value. I’m sure you have come across the concept before, no one is that naive.

This is a very old narrative that has been applied for a long time. It’s just that its effectiveness has worn off and we now “see it” more because it’s out of place with new social norms. Back when main stream society truly believed that women’s only primary role and “nature” was to marry and have children, it was an incredibly effective tool. Exploitation is the name of the game. The Labour market exploited both men and women. Men and the Labour market exploited women’s unpaid labour (generally). Women exploited men’s paid labour (if viewed in a certain way). It’s a bit of a house of cards. The rich exploit the poor. The educated exploit the uneducated. You get the idea. I think some people simply find it difficult to understand what “nice” means in its complexity and how it presents itself. On top of that, society got a hell of a lot more accepting of diversity so not only were you more free to talk about who you are and what you like, when you did find a mate your family,…

Sorry, isn’t that what the teenage years (or youth in general) is for? Trying out new stuff and meeting a diverse range of people outside your narrow little world your parents birthed you into. Yeah, I can assure you that there is a lot of folk that can look back on their dating history and think of at least one person that with the wisdom of hindsight they should have passed on. That experience however also probably (with a bit of luck) gave them the experience to know what to avoid in the futu…

Child care services remain expensive….. Yes and no. Per hour for the service they provide they are not terribly expensive. However yes, when to comparing them to being “free” from mom or grandma they are expensive. However as I pointed out, that “free” service is bloody expensive at a human capital level if the system is reliant on a large portion of your population working under capacity. Best to have a system in place where you can maximise your human capital, particularly in a global economy.…

Perhaps, we will see. But we have been slowly outsourcing traditional gender role tasks quite cheerfully for a while now without an ounce of discomfort. Nice little franchises have popped up for lawn mowing, cleaning, cooking “home made meals” delivered straight to the home! Mobile car servicing, dog walking - you get the idea. Child care services are standard now, and specialised from an incredibly young age. Aftercare services at school. It’s not like we have far to go. As for “massive spendin…

Are we sure? The education system that my father and grandfather went through when it wasn’t “feminised” pretty much beat boys for using their pen in the wrong hand, boyish behaviour in class, not bringing correct items to school, disrespect and so on. I’m only going on memory for the conversations I had, but it didn’t not seem like a very flexible, rowdy like environment. Yep, they had sports that’s true, and more “boy stuff” but they do today. The difference seems to be that the boys who didn’…

Nothing ever stays the same, just as nothing ever returns in its original form. How could it possibly? When the factors in a society are so radically different at each point in history. Yes. Change is inevitable and it will be replaced by something else. The “Age Of The Housewife” (1950’s version) isn’t coming back, the role has almost been entirely eliminated by tech anyway (washing machines, fridges, Roomba, dishwashers) and it just keeps on advancing. Doubt it, or at least to the degree you are thinking. People have been running interference regarding older men for as long as I have been aware. Hoping your daughter will meet “a suitable young man” or “a suitable boy” is a common phrase. You might tolerate your daughter marrying someone older but there is probably other circumstances going on or you might not have much of a choice. Feminists will have to stand in line after parents. I have yet to see normal average Moms and Dads not worry about age gap relationships when very young adults are involved (whether it be a son or daughter). Very few parents want a much older man kicking his boots under their dinner table at Sunday lunch eyeing up their early 20’s daughter. A lot will do their best to actively intervene. Oh, and then there is the judgement of society in general. Hang on, why are you blaming Feminists again? Go b…

Look, on the surface that’s not bad advice but like most things you need a working strategy for the environment you are operating in. They are focused on other things and seldom are not even sure what “settling down” will look like for them yet. In regards to “locking down” anyone, it’s hard because you are fishing in a pool where the majority don’t want to be locked down, don’…

How about this option? Currently there is a basic concept of separation of work life and family life. Under our strong profit driven system, I think there could be the possibility of merger of a lot of the heavy lifting of raising children and the need for increased birth rates picked up by the labour force and pitched as workplace benefits. It could streamline the process and get rid of a lot of the push/pull of work life balance and the vastly reduce costs of raising a family. There are 3 prim…

believe the solution is to insult and belittle these women into settling. Amazingly, this has not had the intended effect. Eh, it is a very old social control mechanism designed to reinforce social norms. Stigmatising and shaming, it’s very much in play today (think drugs and alcohol, gambling, STD’s) but it’s pretty ineffective if the norm isn’t current. It still works pretty well on a current norm where society widely expects adherence. Society’s expectations of young women marrying and having…

Birth rates are plummeting across the developed world. Oh sure and that’s a complex issue. I’m just saying that making and raising humans artificially is going to come with a price tag that is astronomical. Hmmm doubt it. All the drama aside, look at it from a purely financial point of view. Every human both historically or currently walking on this planet was gestated and birthed from a womb. It takes around 9 months per human. Sometimes you may get two if you are lucky. Humans are the default basis of humanity. Currently society gets new humans for pretty much free. single older women are the happiest older demographic In my experience it certainly looks that way. But like most things, it’s complicated. You are missing the shift in social norms that almost certainly will continue to influence the majority of the population. You already know the concept because you live it, and as a human, have been socialised into it. No, not really. At least not to the degree that it changes pretty fundamentally who you are and how you interact with your partner. Indeed as adults we are really good at it and so should we be. It’s the basis of most adult responsibilities and our legal system and we learn it young. Or that there isn’t an option to pick from a selection of men in their 40’s that wouldn’t find an income of 400,000 attractive for whatever reason? If so, I happen to have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale….

If they are both aging in a similar fashion then the market remains the same. A woman earning that can tap into the funded boyfriend market or the nurse and a purse market (which is frankly huge!). The man can tap into the funded hot chick gold digger market. Let’s not pretend for one second that money won’t get you something if you really look and it’s what you are willing to buy. Both can tap into the “I met a nice person through market” if it happens to come your way.

If people are really confused, spend a week or so hanging around your local court. You can get a glimpse of who is in violent relationships or what those “bad boys” who commit various crimes really look like. You can see who is weeping because the “bad boy” just got locked away for 5 years. Or check out the single moms and baby daddies at family court who don’t pay child support and see if they are really “Chad” who is getting away with not committing and “spreading his seed”. Feel free to check…

I can, it can easily be built into a romantic narrative. “Couples” split bank account where her wages are auto allocated. The AI can access and manage all the household finances and a little extra savings in there to purchase her those special gift she has been “hinting at”. Christmas/Birthday/ date night budgets. Home delivery, gift wrapped, personal card services. All very doable.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/02/24 10:04 PM

I have always thought that AI was a better fit for women. Currently it would just be a version of her favourite romance novel except in audio that she can actually interact with. With home tech the way it’s heading AI can have the lights dimmed, romantic music on and a bath running as she is walking in the door from a long day at work. The AI boyfriend can easily do those little validating tasks like running the Roomba, turning on the coffee maker prior to her waking, or having the groceries del…

I don’t think your experience is unusual to be honest. I think this observation is lost due to stereotypes. The stereotype is that it is women that push against sex and men that are always trying to escape some type of even minimal commitment. What is lost in the stereotypes is the on the ground complex negotiation of trying to formulate an actual relationship. For instance, I have observed quite a number of men (both younger and older) really dig in to leverage enough space for an actual relati…

Hmm I’m not so sure anymore that this is correct: In your first paragraph you state that it is boys that are valued more for what they achieve. I believe that in today’s society there is now academically very high demands on girls, perhaps even more so than boys. The education system is very responsive to girls, girls are better suited to sitting still for longer periods so even at a young age they tend to respond quite well to the educational setting and it perpetuates teachers and parental exp…

That’s the wonderful thing about fashion, there is points in history when men indeed wore high heals, wigs, certainly stockings and it marked them as part of the “noble” class. Interesting. Your overall point aside, I actually find it really interesting this concept of “Men/leaders and Women/obedient submissive”. I believe that men understand how to submit incredibly well. I’m not sure. There has been a lot written about the factors driving this and a lot seems to be cultural or economic. But importantly the reinforcing factors, those factors that keep the division in place even as young people get a bit older and might be slightly more interested in a long term relationship even if it’s hard, are hard to shift. Yes, I think to a certain degree you are right. It’s a social control mechanism. One being watered down but still present. However there was is also option which is primarily to control men’s behaviour as well. Which of course was/is also hanging around and done via religion and also negative social shaming - older terms like that is suggestive that a man is controlled by his sex drive, lacking self control, lacking character, that kind of thing.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/02/24 04:02 AM

Sure, but I think what OP is asking is why is there a need for people to then socially label that individual they had sex with negatively- at least that’s what I got from a first reading.

Young men increasingly tend to spend more time online engaged with products that create an artificial set of tasks, goals, achievements- in other words computer games. I’m also a bit concerned that they seem to be increasingly “jumping online” to “hang out with their friends” and socialise. I’m not saying that online friends are not friendships, but I am absolutely saying…

Badly enough to proudly say “Thank you for your service to reduce the population collapse!” Badly enough to pressure the shit out of the government to ensure she and her 4 children have access to all of the resources available to ensure they have excellent food, shelter, education, healthcare and resources to ensure they meet all of their milestones and max…

Does it matter? Look, I don’t mean to be rude but poor people have always “run” things for richer more powerful people. It’s not a “win” or an indication of “who runs society”. Poorer people work the fields so rich people can eat, poorer people keep the electricity on so rich people can work in glass offices with air conditioning, poorer people keep the water on so richer people can have a shower in the house they own rather than rent. The issue is that poorer people have no choice because they …

Until age becomes a neutral factor to parents, and other important cornerstone social structures (like the workplace) then it will remain shunned. In other words, until the general population feels comfortable with their 18 year old daughter bringing a much older man home for dinner (and accepting of the inherent issues with age gap relationships) then you will have an issue. Until an older man can take an 18 year old girl to the office Christmas party without getting side eye and judgement from…

Well, I’m not overly surprised. Mostly because I feel that as least some of the men that hold this opinion don’t have a great deal of experience of having to meet their economic responsibilities consistently. By consistently I don’t even mean living independently for a few years in your early 20’s with limited financial responsibilities. I mean consistently in managing the more complex financial responsibilities associated with dependents. They are not yet exposed enough to financial reality to …

Diversity. I believe we will get use to and settle on a level of acceptance and diversity that we can’t even imagine. As cultures continue to mix with immigration, and increasingly people with different identities continue to pair up, diverse family structures will become the new norm. As children are raised in diverse households new “norms” will be created and they will be further exposed to others through socialisation. Resilience and flexibility will be a key milestone to navigating the socia…

Ok, so why did you state men do not need women’s labor in the same way that women need men’s labour? I’m really just curious in general as it seems to be a bit of a reoccurring theme that pops up every now and then. Sometimes it can be taken a bit to extremes (not that I’m saying you did).

Do you feel there is room to organise the nuclear unit under different gender norms? I mean obviously across history there has been different economic pressures within society, and between classes, and if the nuclear family has been a constant, there must be diversity in how the nuclear family has responded. It seems logically it is quite flexible. So, in today’s global economy, do you think there is gender norms that could provide a stable model forward for a nuclear family?
/r/PurplePillDebate28/01/24 11:33 PM

Well, I know it’s not specifically what you are talking about, but this concept needs one step further back in the conceptual thought chain to be complete and logically sound. Ultimately, men do need women’s labor specifically because women make power plant technicians, sewage workers, truckers and sailors. I’m not even talking about the raw ingredients of life (sperm, eggs) I’m talking about the building process (gestation). It takes 9 months (around about) per person walking on the planet. It’…

Ok, but basically it is probably more sensible and acceptable to have one vote per person above an adult age because everyone is granted adult rights within the kind is society we are discussing. Ok, thats an easy to fix. All you need to do is lower the threshold of importance and skill set of home maintenance and its presentation among women. It’s kind of happening anyway. A lot of women appear to be much less “house proud” than their mothers. It’s become much more of a compatibility check now. Men that feel more comfortable in cleaner environments and are happy to maintain it will be more comfortable with a woman the feels the same - much less conflict that way. Men with a higher toler…

You can sell a can of air. But yes, you can sell something if there is a buyer who perceives it has value. Overall though I do believe that those who perceive that virginity holds value has vastly reduced. Secondly I also believe that within that crowd, the priority of that perception of value (of virginity) has dropped further down the list when held compared against other perceptions of value such as health, education, social status and so on.

No, I really don’t think it has specific value any more. The reasons are culturally just so vast, but I think it can be summed up with the shift of how we (as a society) value women overall. The demands we place on women now are more connected directly to success in the economic world. It’s not surprising really if you think about who was actually perpetuating and reinforcing the idea of the value of virginity in the first place, then track their current influence in modern society. But I think there is a weird twist in there somewhere that is not often acknowledged and it’s in here somewhere: “As such women have a far higher standard of cleanliness than men” I think day to day yes, at least it could be tolerance rather than standard. But it does get warped a bit when outside factors comes into play and then the whole thing seems (at least for some) to revert back to “socially acceptable standards” immediately which for the most part seem to more align with women’…

Thanks for the reply! I’m not at all surprised that you report thriving at work. I know several people with ADHD in the workplace who seem to manage extremely well across a range of tasks so I have always found it interesting to read online (you know, like the relationship forums) that they struggle at home with domestic duties. There tends to be stuff like “My husband leaves 95% of the house work to me even though I work full time. He says his ADHD makes it hard and it is so much easier for me.…

“Even if you are really outgoing and going out a lot the chances that you’ll meet someone with a strong mutual sexual attraction, emotional and moral compatibility and whose life journey dovetails with your (who is single and ready to mingle) seems really slim”. Seems a big deal when you put it like that, but perhaps consider it a different way. As a society we have a lot of common social norms and values, we also have a lot of common beliefs and behaviours amongst socioeconomic groups, then a l…

This is so interesting. What about uniform tasks at work? It would be a very unusual job that doesn’t require at least some uniform tasks if only keeping records and submitting reports. Heck, even the tasks required to get to work on time is a uniform task. I have often wondered if it is the connection between the task and the consequence of not attending to the task that is the reinforcing factor. Obviously not submitting a report on time weekly at work in time for a meeting holds significantly…

Look fair statement regarding the people you know but heck, there is a whole world out there and perhaps the women you know are not as assessable on the net. Perhaps they don’t hold jobs that have a requirement of media exposure? Or media components of any kind? Or perhaps just won an award of some kind that was reported on? I stand by my comment, I don’t think you can cast allegations of that kind widely on the entire group of women who have perhaps received more pic than “not many”. It actuall…

I really think your comment is a bit unfair. Any young (or older!) woman who has been online has probably seen the full range - from right across the world. Apparently women are even getting dick pics sent to their LinkedIn account? That rubbish is chronic now. If men want less focus in the penis, perhaps they could stop saturating the online world with images of size, colour and displayed in a range of locations.

Interesting. I took it as her saying that the woman has been too picky for years and then finally choosing an option that had been available for a while. The “good” bit being on a scale of available options - HR guy being good —-> Hedge fund being “dream ideal”. I did re-read to make sure I didn’t miss it, there wasn’t any mention of “no good man” there? There was also I believe a gentle implication of perhaps “wasting time” in there however it isn’t said directly. Personally as I noted above, I…

Well that’s the thing. We can’t really ask her whether she is relatively satisfied within her marriage nor him. Both may be quite happy. It appears she took the job in HR though? And had 3 kids as well and remains working in HR? So it kinda all worked out? The trend seems to be heading this way, marrying later, so it seems like most people end up working for HR in the end. The guy involved seemed to be pretty determined for that particular girl as he didn’t manage to find anyone else over the years either, particularly not an assets manager or another potential HR employee.

Morgan Stanley (the people who did the research/forecast you are referring to) seems to say quite a bit about what women are doing during those years. It gives no mention of “They aren’t ’choosing’ to stay single, they are staying ‘single’ because men they find attractive aren’t choosing THEM”. https://www.morganstanley.com/ideas/womens-impact-on-the-economy It also says quite a bit about the impact. Ok, so basically your whole argument is “Yes they do want to settle down, trust me bro”. You will not even consider some basic measurable indicators, which is what I was looking at, something tangible that could even suggest a hint of what you are saying is correct. Some indications that young people were indeed thinking long term at that stage of life in regard to their relationships. So there we are, your argument heading towards typing in capital letters, with no tangible evidence other than …

“You can not ever market something to that do not want or need something” Well, that was kinda my point! You know we are having a discussion because you were at least suggesting that young men do want to settle down right? My overall point, is in the section of the population of young men that are currently dating, there is little indications out there that they are “looking to settle down”. Young men, even in younger first relationships, are not the target of long term relationship stuff…..

Ok, but is there a general consensus that a significant percentage of young men who are in relationships are proposing and being declined? As a trend? I haven’t heard of even one in my social network. People tend to get engaged mid-late 20’s or early 30’s. It’s not generally reported in the literature or newspaper either as a social trend. I don’t even see marketing aimed at young men for engagement rings (it seems aimed at mid to late 20’s). There doesn’t even seem to be marketing for engagemen…

Well I can’t “prove” it, but one social ritual that seems to be holding is that men still undertake the responsibility for the proposal of marriage. It also seems that it is still deemed appropriate to propose when a bit older and established. I think it’s fair to assume that if younger men wanted to settle down early, then there would be some trend towards proposing earlier and engagement periods lengthening or them marrying earlier and bucking the trend of waiting until they established themse…

Oh yeah, I agree. I actually wasn’t disagreeing with your first point necessarily, just kinda throwing in a statement towards the “I don’t know what genius came up with” bit. Not really. I think we are envisioning this a bit differently. In my example, while the “leadership” will change per goal, big decisions are still under 2 leadership. For example, finances should be under a financial plan and budget which is decided by both leaders by consensus. Who actually fulfils the plan is determined by what is happening at the time. For instance, both leaders have a financial plan and budget which is decided 100% by both. The husband gets a work offer for a “stepping stone…

Yes, I believe so. Or at least subsections of authority, and the top of the hierarchy being negotiated out as per the situation. It’s difficult to tell as people don’t calculate the cost until they are in that dynamic and the cost keeps increasing for years. I wouldn’t. Not a chance in hell, at least not for the reasons you listed. Most people like beautiful things - including bodies, faces, voices, smells. Most people also don’t maintain or review the odometer on their body in the extreme nor care anymore so long as it’s kept in good running order. In terms of your list points 1 - 17, if your Mum, Dad or Boss would either ground you or fire you if you don’t display that behaviour - it’s more general behaviour and “deserves” has nothing to do with it. Yes. Yep, I get it. I raised two as well though it seems to depend on interests and social groups. Sporty kids spend a lot of time on sports and it’s a time sink - team practice twice a week, individual practise, competition, sporting club social groups, then individual friendship obligations such as birthdays. Academic kids tend to do the same and it kinda groups off as well - writing clubs/groups, competitions/ challenge events, study groups and so on. Theatre groups- heck there is a time sink. Pho…

“Nowadays, everyone goes straight home from work/school and stays there cause that’s much easier” You have a point about people generally being less social due to technology but I think the above comment is wrong. The majority of people have some kind of social life. There are varying degrees for sure but it is still unusual to not have social connection that you have to leave your home for. A lot of young people could look at your description of being a teen and pretty much relate, they just ad…

It depends on the period of time you are talking about? Pre-marriage/early marriage - egalitarian. Young kids - pretty “traditional” (but a modern version) with me taking over most of the home stuff. Older kids - almost reverse traditional with partner taking over almost all home stuff. Currently - egalitarian. Depends on what stage we are at with meeting our life goals, some of them are big and to get them achieved it takes a lot support. Overall I guess you could say we take a flexible approac…

“Get all possible problems and thoughts and thoughts that might arise dealt with preemptively” Yes I really do think that there is a lot of that through the comment section, I feel you are not alone. It’s almost a collective anxiety that is feeding on itself and I mean no disrespect when I say that, it is only an observation. This is not the reality of the world we live in though. Relationships themselves are full of risks. Everyday life is full of risks, there is no real basis for guarantee or …

Thank you, that helps a lot. I think this comes down differing cognitive processing. You were really clear with your description but I don’t recognise your conclusions in my own interpretation which is super interesting in itself! I don’t think there is anything wrong in expecting mutual trust within your relationship, particularly if that is what was established when you were dating and it is important to you. It really is that simple. If your long term partner (lover, husband, whatever) withdraws his trust, for some people the relationship is no longer viable. It would be devastating to be suddenly considered not worthy of trust without cause, particularly with someone for whom you had believed you had established mutua…

There has been versions of the “go bag” for generations. Hasn’t anyone heard of Grandma pressing money in her granddaughter’s hand on her wedding day and telling her to hide it “just in case”? Maybe it’s finally falling by the wayside if it is as unknown as it appears in this thread, but it’s not as uncommon as you may think. I would be strongly confident that this is where the woman in the OP’s post got it from - Mum, Grandma, Great Grandmother and so on. It’s not limited to “women that have a …

Ahhh, but you hit on a key concept of what I was trying to explain! Well done, I’m glad you brought this up. I believe it is due to some of those very broad stroke generalities of society that you mentioned why one of the foundations of trust within a personal relationship is so critical to most people. And why when it is destroyed it is so difficult to rebuild. Most adults are very aware of the negative aspects of society that you describe - cheating, violence, addiction, abuse and so on. Healt…

Hmm, I see. If you can’t imagine a scenario then explaining will be difficult. Let me see if I can make it fit for you. A lot of people do not want to be in a relationship that does not have trust. It is a common foundational requirement within long term relationships. If they entered the relationship believing there is trust on both sides, only to find that indeed there is not, the relationship is no longer viable for them. The process of discovering that there is not trust particularly on the …

Yes you do. Or you if you don’t you are truly very unusual. Being wrongly accused of something that serious is going to hurt, it’s a direct attack on your character and puts into question how that person actually views you. There is also the wider implications of the accusation for a long term personal relationship regarding trust which is central to a relationship. Frankly it would be hideous. Most people would be seriously offended and hurt if they were wrongly accused of theft in the workplac…

Yeah, while I think I know the point you are making I tend to disagree. The issue is offspring. A lot of wealthy people and large wealthy families want the next generation to hand their assets and businesses off to. They tend to be quite particular on the family structure, educational background and environment of those that marry into the family as well. They also have specific preferences on how those offspring are raised as well for obviously reasons.

I wish this was highlighted more often. The sheer hours that young people redirect away from learning how to manage the life, relationships, face to face communication, difficult social interactions, building resilience, tackling new things, dealing with boredom, learning to deal with themselves and others. It’s so easy to turn on a complex, stimulating, carefully built achievement oriented environment where it is almost guaranteed to give you a positive emotion of some kind.

I think we have just made it to damn hard for women to have children. Considering we actually need children, it’s rather insane how hard we make it. Think of all the socially imposed hurdles between “I want to have sex” and “I have raised a child to adulthood” if you want to do it in a socially acceptable way. Don’t believe me? Look at the stigma unmarried single Mum’s get. “The birth rate is dropping!” is the cry. But a teenager gets pregnant outside marriage - “No! Not like that!”. A woman has…

There was a thread the other day about who pays on dates. It was pretty clear that there has been a huge shift, even for first dates, and even for people who frequent this subreddit. It does appears that if anything the USA is lagging slightly, and obviously there will be slight differences due to where you live, but there is no doubt it’s chalk and cheese to 50 years ago. No, nothing works in absolutes - that’s why comments such as “if you get her in her 20’s she won’t be jaded or full of man hate as a single woman in her 30’s” is absolute nonsense. Good thing women are moving away from the whole men provision thing then? You can’t deny that Feminism really saved your butts on that one. Is there any reason to believe there will be a huge shift in personality between women in their 20’s and women in their 30’s? Aren’t women in their 20’s already picky? Isn’t that the dreaded reason they didn’t date you in the first place? They got all the way to 30 unmarried apparently due to this very flaw. So now you are chasing after women in their 20’s at peak pickiness, where they have maximum selection and at peak power due to their youth?

Depends, what is it’s intended purpose really? It’s a platform for others to view your profile widely and decide if they want to contact and interact with you. That’s it really and it works pretty nicely for that but end results might vary. If you don’t like the variation of the end results it might not be an enjoyable experience. I don’t necessarily disagree, but you know what has also reduced? Acceptance. The “you can have it all”, the very bizarre “fair” and lastly “guaranteed” is such a strange concept historically. That happiness and comfort is the baseline of life and some deviation means that somehow it has gone wrong and you have not received your fair share? To some degree for those on the fence between cohabitation or marriage. The tax benefits, health care stuff could be the deciding factor. But just for general necessity of money and financial stability we can already see where the increases have happened - young people living at home longer, people delaying marriage and children, young people who do move out of home move into share homes.

I kind of agree. The easiest way is to avoid it this issue all together. Do your very best to remain the person that she wished to have sex with in the first place and build on that in a way that promotes her desire as life progresses. Yes, “I’m not happy and I am leaving you” or some version is common. At that point direct communication is a courtesy, it appears to be considered more polite to give some heads up when ending a marriage - sending a text or just moving out could seem a little abrupt. However if you found that words of this nature annoy you, you could consider requesting that all future communication be limited to your lawyer?

I think if the household responsibilities had routinely split between two people, dividing into two separate households and 50/50 split custody looks more intimidating for men than women. Men might be willing to put up with an higher level of dissatisfaction for longer to maintain the current routine. I think you can do something about it. This is not professional advice it is just my thoughts, take it with a pinch of salt, it is only for your consideration. Think about the how people generally pick up social skills, it is actually quite organised. Hate? I think it’s a bit naive to think that women who really hate men all developed that emotion at an age where they entered the social dating market. I mean it’s not like women just pop out of a sealed container when they are old enough to date ready for you to prove how awesome men are if they would just pick you! You don’t want damaged women? Ok, but there is nothing gentlemanly about forcing past a decline. There is no grace whatsoever in his behaviour. All he has achieved is discomfort. If it was a good natured “I will pay! No let me!” exchange that is different but it certainly didn’t read that way. In this case, there is certainly nothing gentlemanly in “a man to signal what he is willing to do to be your mate” and then pushing past such a demonstration of resistance. Completely agree. I don’t think the roots of the issue even sits in the reduction of third spaces though, it’s a bit trickier than that. I believe It’s starts in the reduction in face to face social skills being developed in the community as a whole which contributes to the decline of third spaces as they are increasingly not being used. It’s a bit of a feedback loop so to speak. You pointed it out beautifully when noting the experience in addiction services. The commonality of experience and co…

Yes you are right of course, a lot of these concepts don’t work simply because they do not transcend logically into the a complexity of real life. Take Divorce for instance. While you can ban divorce you can not stop someone from actually leaving - which is a very accessible option today. Once one spouse chooses to leaves there is very little recourse and banning divorce becomes pretty irrelevant and a…

Does the motive / standard really matter though? It appears you are saying that both men and women are having sex prior to marriage and it’s pretty common to the degree that anything else it very unusual. That’s it, full stop, the rest doesn’t matter after that. I think that most people want to date others with similar social experiences that they have. What is they can relate to, what feels socially “normal”, or what fits their belief system in some way. I really don’t know, but I tend to doubt it. Marriage/birth rates are falling widely..

I don’t know if that is true or not to be honest. I think there is probably quite a wide variety of level of care regarding past sexual history, and quite a wide variety in what the general community thinks is “normal” these days. Some pockets of the community probably still thinks no sexual history prior to marriage is “normal, good, appropriate, acceptable” and another pocket probably thinks some sexual history is “normal, good, appropriate, acceptable” as they think it’s a sign of adulthood. …
