He's got a point there. First, there's a difference between "traditional masculinity" from "men". Second, when he's criticizing traditional masculinity, I really don't think he's deriding men who lift weights or wrestle their friends or shit like that. Traditional masculinity is a standard that society imposes society imposes on men. And it's the reason why men are so fucked over as they are. I would also consider traditional femininity (toxic feminity) is also a disease as well. In Trump's case…

Considering her being a right-winger, I wouldn't consider her a good advocate for male issues. People who advocate for gender issues should be left-wing. The right promotes traditionalism, which is antithetical to gender liberation. And for those who are gonna say I'm gatekeeping, look at the current MRA movement. Their "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" approach with conservatives is why they're so reactionary and terrible to begin with. Why do you think this sub exists in the first place?

Suprised I'm getting downvoted here. The ultimate goal for any gender based movement should be to liberate the roles of both men and women (i.e. let both genders do want they want) to achieve maximize happiness. There is no middle ground. That's like saying there's a middle ground between racism and anti-racism. Pretending there is is serves to legitimize the traditional roles that fucked over all of us in the first place.

There is no middle way between traditionalism. We should abandon traditionalism. It would benefit all genders.

Disagree. What the fuck is this comparison? If they were making a point about how BLACK people were oppressed by the slave trade, then yeah, it wouldn't make sense that there would be white people. Additionally, if they were making some kind of point about how BLACK people were oppressed in the 1950s, it wouldn't make sense to whitewash MLK. Nothing in the subtext of the game necessitates ALL the players being men. The subject of the story isn't male disposability. It's just war. That's it. And …

TLDR: Including women in video games ≠ historical revisionism Tons of unfounded conclusions and loaded language here So much wrong with this post. Let's go point by point. Feminists are forcing their narrative into this industry to brainwash ignorant kids who don't know any better, all the while tweeting "Forget what you learned in history class", This is incredibly vague. What specific ones? And again, I don't really see modern feminists excluding black women from their movement, especially with the widespread contempt for "white feminism".

I disagree. Most modern feminists acknowledge that the original woman's suffrage movement was racist , primarily focusing on white women. That's why a lot of feminists try to take a intersectional approach.

Women have the option to a paper abortion?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates17/08/20 08:04 AM

Fiancial abortion sounds like a great idea on paper. However, I do have two questions. 1) For those who support it, will this right extend to women as well? Remember that both the father AND the mother have to pay child support. 2) Will the child's financial future be secured?

We never tell women to cry about their problems, instead we create committees, conferences and reserve billions of dollars from tax payer money or private charity to solve them. We change laws and policy. What do you mean by this? How are we using "committees, conferences, laws, policy and BILLIONS of dollars" to solve women's problems? This is incredibly ambiguous. Additionally, these aren't mutually exclusive. We can solve male issues on a legislative level, while promoting a cultural change o…

Most safe haven laws are gender inclusive. " In most States with safe haven laws, either parent may surrender his or her baby to a safe haven. In four States and Puerto Rico, only the mother may relinquish her infant."

Well the average taste in gaming tends to agree. Boys play adventure stuff they could never live in their own life, girls play The Sims. Popular-with-boys genres include science fiction, fantasy, adventure. All stuff that couldn't happen in their lifetime, or period (involving magic, fantastic universes, etc). Popular-with-girls genres include drama, and romance. Stuff that could happen in real life, just maybe not so idealistic. Citation needed. Where is the evidence that boys enjoy "adventure"…

But some of the stuff the post is about - like assuming women are boring and men are fun... sounds like they have no idea what it's like being a man surfing on reddit? In a attempt to play devil's advocate, I believe they're referring to the Girls vs. Boys memes you see around r/memes or r/dankmemes. (locker room ones being most popular) The memes usually involve a comparison between the perceived behaviors of boys and girls in various scenarios. The implication of them are usually that boys are…

I get the sentiment, but I don't think the Salem witch trials are an apt comparison. "Innocent until proven guilty" is a standard that exists in the criminal justice system, not in the public sphere. The Salem witch trials were instituted by the colonial criminal justice system.

It's not just online; I think in general, gay men get shit on more because of toxic masculinity (yeah, i know some people hate the term). It's generally more socially acceptable for women to display outward levels of affection towards another, while it's considered gross for men to do the same. So naturally, gay women are more accepted (and fetishised).

I'm going to attempt to "steelman" the feminist argument here. Hope my take isn't controversial, but here goes: Men and women both face online harassment (in fact, it looks like men face the bulk of it). However, when feminists state that online harassment is a gendered issue, I think they mean that sexist online harassment is a gendered issue, (i.e., women being harassed for being women). I'm not 100% sure if women get more sexist online harassment in general, but I do know that this is definit…

Except, for a lot of people, it doesn't. That's the point. Then, they're just incorrect then. For example, your equation of the two terms suggests that you see no biological component to masculinity, but even the Wikipedia definition says: "To what extent masculinity is biologically or socially influenced is subject to debate." I would argue it's more of the latter, since women can express masculine traits.

toxic male gender expectations But "male gender expectations" just means masculinity. Seems like a meaningless change.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates08/07/20 10:54 PM

This is because the issue isn't masculinity. The issue is the pressure men face. Masculinity is a narrow description of a specific set of traits. It's both. Men are pressured to be masculine, or in other words, fit within a narrow description of a specific set of traits. Saying the issue is toxic masculinity makes the whole argument fit into a neat little box that only helps very specific people. And it still ignores many other issues they could have. Can you elaborate on this? This seems really…

We don't say kids don't have privilege when their actions are excused because of their lack of agency, do we? Or when adults are given more responsibilities? I have to challenge you on this point. Generally, we don't claim kids are "privileged" over adults because they aren't given economic responsibility, or as seen as having less agency (Unless you yourself believe that kids are "privileged" over adults). Otherwise, can give me an example?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates08/07/20 06:22 AM

For this to be an effective argument against feminists, you would have to prove two things. 1) White and rich people are seen as having less agency and responsibility. As a result, they are taken far less seriously (similar to how kids are seen in relation to adults). 2) This belief fucks over white and rich people. Seriously, I would like to see someone respond to this.

Largely true. There are a lot of users in there who want to "preserve" masculinity in response to the growing usage of "toxic masculinity" by feminists. Ignoring the fact that it is the problem in the first place. For the record, I think the idea of preserving "masculinity" or "femininity" is regressive.

You can have a system where mostly men choose to go in politics or CEO positions, and where ambition is selected for as something men should aspire to to be attractive (making it more common in men)...while egalitarian. Do you think there isn't any social/environmental factors that go into this? I don't think it's mainly due to choice. Additionally, if men face more pressure to be ambitious than women, I don't think that's egalitarian.

I agree that fathers aren't given that much recognition in parenting. I think this is due to traditionalist values (i.e. the idea that women/the mother are solely responsible for child-rearing and maintaining the domestic sphere).

I hate the idea of promoting "masculinity" and "femininity tbh. I know it's a hot take, but all it does is force men and women into rigid gender roles. Why should certain characteristics be associated with each gender if isn't impossible for the opposite gender to employ those same characteristics? Masculine women can exist. Feminine men can exist. I know some people will argue that masculine and feminine characteristics are biologically fixed for each gender. However, 1) Aside from obvious stuf…

I mean...people are gonna hate me for saying this, but this is toxic masculinity. Now before, you type anything, just hear me out. I define "toxic masculinity" as a series of toxic behaviors expected of men by society (men and women). I think most of us can agree that men are expected to not show any sign of "weakness". We can also agree that people are socialized into believing this expectation. Hence, people think its "pathetic" and "unmanly" for men to cry. As a result, society doesn't end up…

I define toxic masculinity as toxic behaviors expected of men. Men are expected to shoulder their pain and not express their emotions (unless its anger). This is toxic to men's well being. I'm pretty sure we can all agree with that. So yeah, I would argue that the men suffers from toxic masculinity. If feminists argue that this creates "emotional labor" for the life, I disagree. The reason it was believed women shouldn't be harmed with tough and dangerous jobs was because they are "weak and must be protected". For men, they were expected to handle it because they are "strong and disposable". If it was truly ethical, men should have been protected too.

They were banned from some jobs, much like underage boys, for ethical reasons. I haven't seen any evidence of this. Women were largely restricted because of traditionalist views of gender. Same reason men were expected to make a living for his family.

Disclaimer: I support men's issues and feminism is far from perfect. Second of all, I'm not saying that men in the past had great lives. In fact, I think it's safe to say that most men had AWFUL lives. However, I don't see the point of this. Feminists didn't "rewrite history". Yes, throughout history, women were restricted from several fields of work. And yes, this was oppressive. The danger of the job doesn't disprove this fact. Dude, come on. You're really gonna cite one video as evidence that women are entitled to sex? Any studies or anecdotes? Feminists have the upper hand because there are multiple ancedotes of men acting creepy (or entitled) to women whenever they're asking them out. If you want to dispel the notion of "male entitlement", you're gonna have to provide more than that.

I don't understand why that's untrue. It's the same reason why male victims of rape or domestic violence (by women perpetrators) are afraid to report their crimes. It's because they're afraid they'll look weak. It's also because people don't give a shit. Both are true. I think you may disagree because it sounds like its men's fault that they're suffering, but I don't think that's true.

It's all rooted in toxic masculinity. Men are afraid of expressing their feelings because they don't want to be seen as weak or feminine. (Toxic Masculinity) People tend to not give a shit about men's feelings because men are expected to "man up" and take it. (Toxic masculinity) Change my mind.

I can only imagine the uproar and outcry there'd be if this had boy in place of girl and how it'd be condemned as being sexist and misogynistic. Not saying I approve with the practice, but it wouldn't really the same if you switched the genders. Historically and to some extent today, superheros are typically associated with masculinity/depicted as male. Saying "I'm a boy, what's your superpower?" would just be reinforcing the norm. I never really seen feminists argue for "white knighting" in terms of self-defense. At best, they just ignore it. Also, I think shaming white-knights by calling them pussies/simps would be counter-intuitive to men's liberation since it reinforces the belief that femininity is "wrong" or undesirable for men (in other words, it reinforces toxic masculinity). It doesnt mean all masculinity is bad, just the type society forces upon men (junk food doesnt mean all food is junk) It refers to how men are socialized, not the behavior of men. Men are socialized to suppress their emotions (which accounts for the high suicide rate) and to not be feminine in any way (otherwise they're "gay" or "pussies") Granted, some feminists may use it incorrectly, but that's the general idea.

I agree with you and it's kinda sad that the commentators here are just saying you're 'concern-trolling" or "policing" without addressing your points. I agree that recently, there's been a lot more hostility towards women here. I also seen a lot of people here being a bit too paranoid towards false rape accusations. I agree that being accused is scary, but the vast majority of women won't hurt you. So you don't need to "attach body cams" or anything. We can advocate for the rights of men without…

What's the purpose of the title? The vast majority of women already know that it's wrong to murder their children. This isn't any better than "teach men not to rape."

Dude, tampons are basic hygiene products like soap, toilet paper and toothpaste. Paying for something women use for something they can't control has nothing to do with "lack of responsibility" You're looking too deep into this

Saying that "rapists can be successful" or that "Rapists get away with rape a lot more than this sub wants to believe" isn't necessarily fear-mongering. I'm saying that rapists aren't automatically punished in all situations. I'm not saying that women should treat all men as "potential rapists." And what "classic feminist tactics"?
/r/MensRights20/09/18 02:47 AM

No. Not the same thing at all. One is a declaration that it happens and is happening more than is recognized. The other is a declaration of possibility. Saying something IS happening is absolutely not the same as saying something CAN happen. Saying "rapists can be successful" is a declaration of possibility, but it is also a declaration that it happens and is happening more than is recognized.

Opportunity for the rape to happen. Anyone can rape; the same way anyone can make a false rape accusation.

Saying "Rapists get away with rape a lot more than this sub wants to believe**.** " and **"**rapists can be successful" is pretty much the same thing. One common sentiment I see in this sub is that rapists of female victims never get away with it. However, as I said before, *"*Rapists get away with rape a lot more than this sub wants to believe, rapists can be successful." Trying to turn your fear-mongering into simply stating the obvious does not redeem you or your terrorist organization. I don…

Me saying the not all victims of rape are automatically supported and that rapists can be successful doesn't mean I saying every woman needs to think every man is a potential rapist.

I'm probably gonna get downvoted even more for saying this, but this infographic is just fear-mongering, the same way as saying; "EVERY FATHER OF GIRLS SHOULD BE TERRIFIED THAT AT ANY TIME, ANY BOY CAN RAPE THEM AND RUIN THEIR LIVES. " is fear-mongering. I switched the genders and situation to show you how it doesn't work. This is the exact same post if a feminist wrote it: "As a father, son, brother, otherwise relative, friend, and just a human being, this terrifies me. We must protect our girl…

This may be a unpopular opinion, but the sign is pretty sexist. It puts unfair gender roles on men and women. It sort of states that the woman's job to civilize the man, since they cant really control themselves. Also the phrase "act like a lady" seems pretty sexist too. I also don't really see how this relates to men's issues.

This isn't really a good argument. Wanting STEM fields to be friendlier toward women doeant mean you should have a obligation to enter STEM.
