Been there done that. I'm currently a combat engineer and pursuing my degree in engineering. Pay yourself first, even if its 5% of every check on payday, budget your expenses accordingly (luxuries will always be around so they can wait), whatever is left after paying expenses split between an emergency fund and/or investing (this is what I do but I know what works for me but not for we).
