When you can't conceive yourself, there's not much else to do. At that point it's either give up, adopt, or surrogate. Having kids should be about more than just passing your genes along.

It's definitely a rough situation that should probably be handled case by case. At glance only I don't think he should have been awarded money, since the only reasoning behind the divorce that I've heard is the inability on her part to conceive a child.
