My family's attempting to do something similar right now. Our mother disinherited one of our sisters for several different reasons, but through our dad's affairs before he passed she administrates much of the estate she's supposed to be excluded from. You can guess how well that's gone.

Focusing on the enemy and constantly looking to divide is what the Feminists do. I refuse to be like them. So I will continue to use empathy where I find it's necessary while still defending men's rights.

Finally. A worthy woman. Worthy of what, guy? My dating will be legendary. Oh. I forgot where I was, apparently.

Honest question: If attacking the appearance and character of a woman who has performed a relatively minor sexual assault (clothed groping) is "perfectly called for," why do you attack and mock anyone who criticizes Trump's character and appearance, a man who has been accused of upwards of 15 sexual assaults, who brags about how much and how casually he assaults, has admitted in court that he beat and forced himself on his wife, and who regularly attacks the character and appearance of women who…

I mean, he's a gay man. I don't think you realize just how much shit and immaturity you have to put up with from men that's been accepted and even encouraged by "society" until you're actively dating them. Dudes are just as crazy and illogical as you all seem to think women are, it's just a different brand.

To be fair, those are communities that those sorts of movements head to first to plumb for potential members since a large portion of their populations are embittered, disenfranchised and often loners. I'd shout-out MGTOW, as well.

A lot of this sub has just become low-effort posts complaining about anything that isn't specifically catered to men.

So you've never watched, say, women's volleyball? Even track an field gets a myriad of questionable camera angles and lingering shots.

Why is this tagged "discrimination?" It's obviously a double standard, albeit one that kind of goes in both directions, but to call it discrimination is...the word that springs to mind is "paranoid," but that's not quite it. It feels like a persecution complex and belittles actual discrimination. Like, having custody law and bulge-reporting both marked "discrimination" doesn't elevate bulge-watching in importance, it just makes light of custody law.

That's exactly what I meant by "Calvinball." Now you're trying to pretend you said something different than you did, when the original statement is literally just a scroll up the screen and available in plain text. Also, yet again we're seeing a complete disregard for any of the anti-male propaganda and people immediately dogpiling anything that's pro-men which frankly, only encourages me to piss all of you off completely in response since you're showing just how biased your being. Your statemen…

Because you've literally admitted that you don't "debate properly," you intentionally try to anger people as much as possible for the crime of not sharing your exact worldview. I don't debate with self-admitted trolls, because it's not a "debate" - it's conversational Calvinball.
/r/MensRights09/02/18 11:47 PM

Well, I already mentioned workplace safety and custody law, but frankly I'm not going to stick around to have a conversation with someone who's already directly stated that their response to having even minor views challenged is to be intentionally and grossly inflammatory and who prefaces their invitation to a debate with "if you don't engage me then you're the problem and I win." I'd rather keep browsing the community and having meaningful discussions with people who can participate dispassion…

I'm not "obviously lying," I'm expressing my opinion and my experiences, holy hell. You're never going to actually participate in a real debate on good faith if your reaction to someone else's life is that it's "a lie." Sorry, but the most upvoted threads and comments don't seem to be the ones with real issues like workplace safety or custody law, but rather just the lowest-common-denominator "Look what those feminists are doing!" or "Aren't men amazing?" circlejerks. That sort of low-effort pos…

You're obviously not paying too much attention to this subreddit if that "not what MRAs are doing." This whole community has gradually but noticeably shifted over time from reasoned discussion of legitimate societal inequalities and diplomatic inadequacies to just a full-on persecution complex with a weird subtext of being anti-woman and pro-masculinity (but only the right kinds of masculinity.) I don't even feel completely comfortable lurking discussions as a gay man anymore after the number of…

Yeah, this isn't about men's rights or gender equality, this is more like "men's supremacy," which kind of seems to be the way this sub has been more and more gradually listing the last couple years. This sign is almost literally saying "Men are responsible for civilization."

Then why has everyone above you in this chain who's had a strong negative reaction to what we're discussing specifically said "season 2" and not "season 2 trailer," along with obviously phrasing their statements as objective judgments of what the entirety of the finished, complete product will be?
/r/MensRights06/02/18 01:57 AM
1

Yep, because every character in involved in the entirety of season 2 was in this 100 second trailer and we can perfectly infer all their allegiances and motivations from a series of context-free shots without continuity, chronological order or any of their personally involved dialog. Why do you have such a persecution complex?

Oh man, this "community" really is starting to move faster and faster away from a reasoned discussion of legitimate societal inequalities and diplomatic inadequacies to just a full-on persecution complex and a dislike for seeing anything that you can't directly relate to even slightly glorified or validated, isn't it? We really know nothing of Season 2 from a "literary" (I feel like, at the very least, you meant "cinematic", but you're trying to be pretentious and can't quite do it) standpoint b…

It's "arrogant" to try to be precise with your words and intentions? Her choice of words is so assaulting that you jump straight to calling this woman, who is most likely a complete stranger to you, a "bitch?" What exactly does she say that's objectionable? Something is "quite problematic and a real issue?" "Women are being silenced?" She even pokes fun at the concept that spurred the conversation in the first place by calling "mansplaining" "funny," but you can only see venom and you can only s…

The idea of women being equally comfortable as men in social situations is terrifying to what seems to be the "new majority" in subreddits like this. They rely on "the implication" and a subtle undercurrent of fear and fish-out-of-water to keep women (and anything/anyone else they consider "feminized") "in their place." I've been subscribed to this subreddit for over 3 years now and, even as a man, it's done far less to convince me that men face true societal disadvantage as it has to show me th…

Ah, so then the next step of the narrative won't be "We need to reflect on how our behavior affects our perception and image," but "See? See how 'feminized' society is? And they're all against us!," I imagine.
/r/MensRights29/01/18 02:36 AM

You're equating "feminism" to some sort of militant movement and not just a general feeling that women should feel as respected and socially comfortable as men do.

Women and men were absolutely sexually harassed many, many years before some arbitrary point a couple decades ago you seem to be implying. And you're the one shifting the argument by laying out such an obvious baiting. If nobody responds to it you'll claim to have won some sexual harassment argument that never actually happened. If someone does push back you'll disingenuously pass the "changing the subject" buck off on them. I don't accept your premises and you're not participating in this conve…

I'm guessing people are tired of being so disappointed that this subreddit went from generally-reasoned discussions of issues like custody and workplace safety to a bunch of manchildren gossiping and "bitching" about their "enemies'" tweets and Tumblr posts. This subreddit does absolutely nothing to help the image of "MRAs," but the community lacks any cohesive vision or self-awareness and seems to favor the short-term catharsis over the long-term change.
/r/MensRights28/01/18 11:33 PM

And apparently the entry level for "feminism" is saving women and children from terrible shit? That's not "feminism," that's "decency."
/r/MensRights28/01/18 11:21 PM
1

You say that sarcastically, but I've gotten the "not a real man" response on this very subreddit for daring to play devil's advocate on a controversial issue. The completely unironic sentiment was that "feminists had 'gotten to me' somehow and I had forfeited my masculinity because of it."
/r/MensRights25/01/18 07:14 AM

So you don't actually have a rebuttal to the argument, then? You're just going to try to change the subject? I think we've both said all we need to, here.

If that's the tact you're going to take then you're scared about a single random woman killing all men, so you might need some thicker skin. You can't have it both ways. If "kill all men" is a serious incitement and/or endorsement of violence, then so is "shootupyourschool." They're both just text on the internet, after all. Oops! Equality! But I'm sure your username is "just a joke," right?

And you leap to demonize someone aggressively while doing almost literally the same thing they are. If her single tweet was a dangerous call for violence, then you're guilty of the same thing every single time you make a post in that name. If "band together to kill all men" has to be taken seriously as a commanding statement, what the fuck is "shootupyourschool?" Then you post publicly about how victimized you feel and how you "try so hard," only to turn around and secretly attempt to harass and…

I'm indirectly defending a woman by way of understanding an attempt at humor and believing in freedom of speech, and that makes me a feminist? Does the word actually mean anything anymore, or do you just throw it at anything you don't like, hoping it sticks and the person slinks away, ashamed? Yes, the whole "thing" is a joke, if the "thing" in question is this specific tweet.

I'm sure your sisters and mother would be quite flattered to hear you using "woman" as a derogatory adjective. If this tweet is dangerous because it's some sort of slippery slope towards male genocide, then your previous comments ("that's a woman tactic," "...which gender is the one that causes more drama and emotional turmoil...") are a slope to casual misogyny. If this tweet is a problem because it contributes to an attitude "against" men, then you're a threat to women for contributing brazenl…

Not intentionally collecting them, but once again I end up on this sub disagreeing with the apparent zeitgeist but trying to be civil and conversive only to find that people aren't interested in reasoning anything out and exchanging ideas so much as making sure only their opinions are visible. Some of the people I've exchanged comments with over the last couple hours are just flat-out angry at, like, the concept of women.

Why do you instantly assume I'm a "feminist" because I have an opinion that differs from yours that just happens to side with a woman? I'm a gay man. Women have basically nothing to do with my life. You realize you're being a flavor of exactly what I was just decrying, right? Gathering all of your "enemies" under a convenient banner and then dismissing them out of hand. Also, why do you assume that a "feminist" would automatically be ignorant of world events and go out of your way to make what I…

If someone says something and it apparently needs clarification and the benefit of increased context, yeah, they'll restate. I'm missing the issue. I don't really feel like you're trying to have a conversation with me so much as at me, and then you just start getting flat-out rude, so... Yeah. I mean, by that "what harm was done" logic this tweet didn't do any harm except through the people that are outraged by it, so if they'd just ignore it and move on, there'd be no issue, right? I've comment…

I make rape jokes, I just keep them to people who understand and/or share my sense of humor. I would also think that making a joke about killing half the planet would be obviously hyperbolic and logistically impossible enough that it'd be an obvious attempt at humor, but apparently I'm wrong, and this woman saved me the trouble of discovering that for myself. You're right, everyone has different tolerances for just about everything. I think the fundamental difference here is that I see "kill all…

That's obviously the definition of equality. I'm not saying other's behavior excuses this tweet because I honestly don't think there's anything wrong with her joke (and it should obviously be an attempt at hyperbolic surprise/shock humor.) Yet, she's being ripped apart while there's likely plenty of other people (men, even!) saying truly hateful things with real sincerity, but they slip by because nobody notices them. The only real "problem" here is that, ironically, people were paying attention…

Yep. You caught me. You can't see because it's the internet, but I just rolled my eyes so hard there was a slight tearing sound. Yes, Twitter has rules about hate speech, but some things are just so obviously intended to be humorous or satirical that it doesn't apply. Besides, millions of people use Twitter. I bet you could limit yourself to just tweets made in the last hour and there'd be dozens of examples of men saying far more hateful and sincere things that slip under the radar because they…

There have always been people saying hateful things in jest. Like, literally always through the entirety of human history. It's just easier to be outraged in 2017 because these statements are automatically archived and can spread globally with barely any effort. If she had said "kill all black people," it'd be different - that'd be disgusting. But "men" are half the population of our species. We're way too big to be a protected class. If she literally meant "kill all men," that's horrible - but …

It's easy to forget that social media is extremely public and wide-reaching because the packaging is extremely casual-but-insular and Twitter itself is basically designed a quick stream-of-consciousness capture. To me this is just someone making a joke while forgetting or not being aware that it won't only be viewable by her peers and audience.
/r/MensRights31/12/17 07:48 AM
-3

It also doesn't fall under the scope of things that are logistically possible, by the way. So you've never made a similarly hyperbolic statement on the internet or in the company of friends?
/r/MensRights31/12/17 07:44 AM

Haha, no woman is "holding my balls." I'm a gay man, and you're probably going to roll your eyes at that and think "that explains it," but honestly I'm pretty inherently misogynistic because, to me - in a purely mechanical sense - women don't really serve any purpose. But, holy hell, there's no point even trying to have a conversation here. This sub isn't about "Men's Rights" anymore, it's twisted into "Men's Superiority." You're not even trying to hide it anymore, saying things like "women dese…

And we never will be, since men and women are objectively, biologically different. That's why we have the concept of genders. You're right, if you make her statement more offensive it...becomes more offensive. Wow. Insightful. But it's still not what she said - you're just putting words in her mouth in a roundabout way and assuming a tone from her that's just not likely.
/r/MensRights31/12/17 07:21 AM
-26

You're making some real leaps, there. EDIT: I guess I shouldn't be surprised at downvotes for a comment on this sub even indirectly defending a woman, but, seriously: It's an unhealthy leap of logic from "she made a joke about killing men" to "we need to keep her under surveillance so she doesn't murder her own children."
/r/MensRights31/12/17 07:19 AM
-4

In that case the vast majority of media (television, movies, internet, literature,) should be outlawed, as under scrutiny it surely contains something negative and imitable, right? Only completely neutral or absolutely positive statements should ever be made, regardless of context or setting?
/r/MensRights31/12/17 07:17 AM
-3

Interesting. So your notion of "equality" isn't that men should be given greater leniency, but that women be punished more. Honestly, it's hard not to think that sounds more like revenge than progress.
/r/MensRights31/12/17 07:14 AM
-5

Of course the genders aren't the same at a biological level, that's why we have different names for them. That's why we have the concept of genders. You're not talking about biological differences, though. The tone of your comments is really surprisingly, startlingly obviously that women are fickle, inferior people. You blatantly harbor some sort of grudge or complex and you're allowing it to completely color whatever "objective" knowledge you know or allow yourself to acquire. Also, just as an …

But that's not what she said. Yeah, swapping out pronouns/races/creeds/etc. is a good first-step litmus test, but it's not the only context anything ever has. If her post was about making male friends and killing all women it'd still be a joke.
/r/MensRights31/12/17 07:03 AM

So you believe that this random tweet about New Year's Resolutions in the middle of the afternoon on a Friday was a literal call to take to the streets and murder all men? That's straight-up delusional, paranoid thinking.
/r/MensRights31/12/17 07:01 AM
3

So your stance is that "women mostly deserve it" with the "it" being undefined, and men are just better for some also completely nebulous reason. You're not trying to have a conversation or further knowledge of any issue, you just want a clearly labeled enemy to attack. I also don't think you understand what "false" or "factual" mean.
/r/MensRights31/12/17 06:58 AM
-38

Do you not have a sense of humor or are you actively suppressing it to allow yourself to become "righteously" outraged? Placing a mundane statement ("make female friends") next to an outrageous statement ("kill half the planet") is, like, entry-level humor, and if you took this tweet as anything other than a joke you're just trying to be victimized. Beyond that, you're either saying that you believe this random tweet was a literal command to take to the streets and kill anything with a penis, or…

Until what "happens to them?" Someone makes a poor joke at what could only be considered their expense in the absolute broadest of terms? You don't honestly think that this tweet is going to start a genocide, do you? "Change for all or be accepted by all." So...you basically want to outlaw humor, then, since everyone has differing tastes in what's funny? If someone actually wants to murder all members of a class of people, they're insane and evil, but, if you think it's more likely that someone …

It's weird that you point out she has a son as some kind of "Look how hateful she is" instead of the obvious and vastly more likely possibility that a mother doesn't want her child murdered and this tweet is hyperbolic as a point of humor, not ideology. When did this community shift from discussing gender equality to salivating over every possible imaginary sleight against men and competing to see who can be the most outraged?
/r/MensRights31/12/17 06:33 AM
-12

No, because trying to get someone fired from the career that provides their livelihood over what's obviously just a poorly thought out joke is something a person would only do if they had absolutely no other sources of vindication or joy in their lives.
/r/MensRights31/12/17 06:32 AM

C'mon, this is so obviously a joke. The juxtaposition of something mundane like making friends with something extreme like gender-based genocide is, like, Humor 101. I mean, come on, guys. The "kill all men" and "kill joy" are both obviously hyperbolic and sarcastic statements. It's the kind of joke that you'd probably be better keeping to your circle of friends where they know your sense of humor, but Twitter is public and widespread. I don't have time to research Justin Beiber incidents from 5 years ago, in the middle of the afternoon on a Tuesday. If this outraged the post maker so much then they should have bothered to make sure all the relevant information was part of their post. See, that's why it'd be helpful to post a video of the moment rather than a photo that shows a moment that's mostly innocent. There's no additional context in this thread and no links to view the subject in its entirety, so it's natural to assume that this is the "most offensive" moment.

But if you're not even allowed to make this sort of broad-reaching joke, then basically all humor becomes off limits. The lesson seems to be, in the context of this subreddit, that the "victim" here is a massive community since it's 50% of humanity, and that matters, but when it's a minority that's being made fun of it's ok, because there's less of them, so less people are offended? There's so many actual ideological battles to fight, but so much of what I see on here just seems like you don't want other people to (somewhat ironically) have the "right" to even think badly about any man, ever. Now it's like everybody just leaping at every chance possible to take s…

Dude, you're quoting -actual- Nazi propaganda while trying to play the whole "I'm in the moderate-middle!" "They're/We're not all white supremacists" angle. Seriously, you're quoting Nazi terminology and taking it to heart. I don't even know what to think anymore. What does this have to do with Men's Rights, anyway? It has to do with -opinions- of men, maybe, but if you're so scared that poor collective opinions of people might evolve into some kind of institutional, systematic discrimination, t…

Holy hell, one tiny experimental group in a massive corporation that exists in a sector that's famously male-dominated and exclusionary is mostly women and everyone here jumps on it with personal attacks about their appearances. When did "men's rights" start drifting closer and closer to /r/incels?

Why does nobody stop for a second to think that just maybe this represents the most qualified set of applicants this specific department has received? The vast majority of tech companies are boys' clubs, but I never see anyone here advocating for them to be 50% female. Likewise, you guys seem to hate hiring quotas and affirmative action, but here you all are clamoring that this group must be 50% male, even if artificially? I'm confused. Shhh, you're not allowed to remember that other people and the second gender also sometimes have it hard in life. Hell, "Men's Rights" tends to throw a lot of "men" under the bus when they're not the right "type" of "man" or "masculine."

You make it sound like all women are categorically, inherently, cartoonishly evil, but all men are individuals with varying levels of commitment and integrity. Isn't that sort of an ironic double standard, especially when the math doesn't back it up?

Well I don't think every woman in the world has a full dance card automatically, either. It's not like all women are shapely supermodels. For every "average looking" guy out there there's an "average looking" girl. Besides, this isn't exactly a scientific study - it's the results of an anonymous online poll.

Men do this too, though. I've had a boyfriend who eventually stopped even trying to hide that he was basically dating on the side while we lived together. I have a friend whose boyfriend turned out to have a whole roster of side-girls and he'd run to whichever was the most sympathetic whenever one of them caught onto him or there was even a minor fight.

If the women get to take about 25% of time off with unchallengeable immunity (because what are you going to do, make them prove the presence and length of their menstrual cycle?) then the men who have to do the absent women's share of the work while they're at home should either be given an equivalent amount of "no-questions asked" personal days, or, and this is going to be a hilariously "triggering" statement: They should make 25% more for doing the same job as the women. But people have the right to realize you never say anything worthwhile and you're just a 2015 version of the Boy Who Cried Wolf. That's exactly what I'm talking about. You don't have anything to say except to try to be antagonistic, and you think it's clever or original, somehow. So if someone doesn't like it when people toss out pointed obscenities or accusations of terrible acts without any justification, they're a "feminist?" They're not just, like, a "decent person?" Men have a lot of issues in this world that there should be a discourse about, but "Men's Rights Activists" seems to be the worst people to let run the discussion. I don't think there's a "wrong" here so much as there are subjective interpretations of the world we live in. Going to extremes and needing to be "right" is damaging to every side and changes the game from a discussion of social issues to a petty sniping match where everyone's just trying to score their own idea of "points."

I definitely don't see myself as being on a "side" as I don't follow this whole online gender politics thing any more than what shows up on my front page, and I just go with what feels like reasonable common sense, to me. I think putting yourself out there for your cause is a little different than being an elected leader of a country. Going into politics basically demands scrutiny and there should be no surprise that your detractors are going to be vocal and vicious. Yeah, this is what I came to say. It's completely different when a country's leader can't take criticism or harassment without lashing out in petty, juvenile ways. Well by "interchangable" I actually meant more like the actor portraying him, rather than the idea that he's actually "the" Mad Max. I always kind of thought Mad Max were like a series of wasteland legends being told by different people at different times. Maybe it is always the same guy. Maybe it's just an archetypal mysterious stranger that's referred to as Mad Max when the stories are retold. I always thought the opening of Mad Max 2 was kind of the first hint that we were dealing with an "un…

Actually it kind of sounds like you have the same interpretation of the series as I do, you just put more of an emphasis on Max's role in things as a character whereas I see him as something of an interchangeable catalyst/carrier for whatever that installment's conflict is. And I wasn't trying to say that I hadn't gotten any further in the series than the opening of Road Warrior, I just meant that, as I see Max's arc, we're told everything that's really going to be relevant about Max from that p…

I didn't really set out to specifically defend the movie so much as I was annoyed by so many people who had, at most seen a 90 second trailer for this confidently stating how they know everything about it and it's going to single-handedly ruin "men" forever. Why are some people so determined to have a movie apparently personally assault the core of their very being? If I have one pet peeve it's people who sample a tiny portion of something and then act as they can generalize the entire thing and…

But there's a lot of legitimate reasons to treat them as more important for being female when you're in a post-apocalyptic wasteland where there's "plenty" of men in every direction but women are essentially a commodity. It's pretty realistic to have men treated as "disposable" when a man dying in this world can be reacted to as "less competition," but a woman dying inches humans unknowably closer to an extinction event and, on a personal level, means that you might never be able to fulfill one …

Because I still fail to see how the "disposability" in these movies is exclusively male, and what of it that does exist is actually explained and contextualized by the setting. Women seem to be much outnumbered by men in the Mad Max universe. There's a ridiculous amount of competition for the chance to procreate, therefore. We see men taking on same-sex relationships because there's no other real option. We see scenes where men being mutilated or killed is met with laughter by other men, but tha…

So should it be women, then? Should action movies have men doing all the actual heavy lifting and everything of plot consequence, and women should just show up to be killed? That sounds really progressive. You can't go "There aren't enough men in this action movie" and athen turn around and go "Everybody getting hurt in this action movie is a man!" Can't go "Only men should step into the line of fire" and follow it up with "everybody in the line of fire is male!" And even when that is the case, …

Were we led to believe by the previous three movies that this is a world where nothing bad ever happens to women? What are the fundamental truths of the Mad Max universe that this movie apparently disregards? And you keep saying "feminist revenge fantasy" like the women in this universe aren't allowed to stand up for themselves. If any of them have a backbone and aren't completely sub…

Wait, wait, so with all the hubbub around the movie for not "glorifying men" enough and for daring to let a woman be competent and important to the narrative of an action movie, your solution would be to have Max play the damsel in distress? Oh, man. I wish I could see how that Mad Max movie would play out on the internet.

You realize the writer/director of Fury Road is the same guy that wrote and directed the entire original trilogy, right? He's never gone on record saying he was forced to do any part of this movie in a way he didn't want to, and he's actually gone on record saying how surprised he is that the movie he set out to make got the amount of backing and funding it did. He created the franchise. He can do what he wants with it, and this is where he wanted it to go. And it's not like he turned it into a …

So a movie where terrible things happen to women and it's a goal to stop it is a "feminist revenge fantasy?" Isn't that just, like, what a normal person would want to happen? Were the previous three Mad Maxes "masturbatory masculinity fantasies," then? Aren't, like 85% of action movies just "male power fantasies" then? You make it sound like when terrible things happen to women in movies the characters should just ignore it so as not to seem "cliche."

Because gender dynamics in a post-apocalyptic setting is an interesting story dynamic to tell. There's a lot of humanity in the idea of a species that doesn't know if it's going to be able to continue taking slaves and captives of the childbearing gender. There's no interesting story to tell about just Max Rockatansky. He's the same "wounded stoic badass" that we've seen done to death in a million different genres and mediums. Max is about as boring as a "protagonist" can get. He's more of a dev…

I really doubt the character in the movie would turn down help from Max to save their distressed friends and loved ones if he just happened to be the other gender. And I don't see anything about the movie that makes the women more valuable just because of their gender, although you'd expect there to be a realistic premium on both genders in a post-apocalyptic scenario because of the need to, you know, continue the species. Where the hell are you getting "male disposability" out of anything? What…

Thank you. The idea that the guy who already made three movies in the universe he created isn't allowed to change up the storytelling a bit because it might not make men look awesome enough is embarrassing.
