Because people who didn't have the time or the means to groom themselves were bums. This idea still persists to this day, as many people associate being unshaven with being unkempt. A beard is not a limb. smh

Shaving your beard was a sign of social status, not 'homo stuff'. Besides, lots of men can't grow a beard. It doesn't mean they're mane-less lions.

What are they thinking?! Is this supposed to make men want to shave more, because their beard is just a symbol of masculinity that they should be ashamed of? I don't get it. Do they not realize that their customers are MEN?
