Appropriate, meaning that type of hair is easier to maintain in dread form. White people with dreads is another issue imo, as it’s just not necessary most of the time. Sounds like this young lady’s grandparents have good heads on their shoulders. I mean, they’re raising a child they didn’t bring into the world, so they seem to have big hearts too.
