basically for free? OP said that everyone on the island contributed something substantial as part of their agreement, so I wouldn't call that "free".

"Have sex with me or you die". Yes, of course that's immoral. It's kind of scary that you'd even ask. Can you explain to me in any way that his behaviour would be acceptable? I'm much more concerned that you seem to think this behaviour is acceptable.

This kind of behaviour wouldn't be so troublesome if it wasn't described as dates. Saying "once a month I take my child out and treat them to a really great day!" would make him sound like an awesome dad. But the way it's phrased sounds more like he's conditioning his daughter. I think you should be more concerned about how it's creepy that her dad is basically doing what a guy on a date might do with her in the future - that's some psychological fuckery right there - than whether or not it "cau…

Women encourage men to be nice because it's... nice to be nice. Like, what the fuck else? We don't encourage men to be nice on the promise of sex.

Have a long conversation with him about it, and don't be afraid to tell him what you're telling us here. If you haven't expressed this all to him yet, there's where you should start. If what he says in response pushes you farther away, it's time to consider separating. There's no reason why you should feel stuck in a relationship that makes you physically and emotionally ill.

It came out that she needed "a rock" to support her, and my anxiety made me not that. In my mind I'm like "so what she's saying is that she needs a 'real man'". What she's saying is that she's interested in dating a confident and independent adult, and most women have that as their baseline relationship goal - TRP twists that into saying women are only into controlling, overbearing men who earn tons of money and refuse to listen to or respect others. I wanted us to spend another year in NY so th…

Men just aren't described as curvy or thick when women talk about them. They're usually just described as "bigger men", and women having a preference for them isn't uncommon, but the dialogue around it is a lot less fetishizing in my opinion. As in, liking bigger men doesn't get you pegged as someone who "is into that" or someone who has specific tastes, whereas liking bigger women is considered a particular interest among men, and is discussed more frequently in those terms. So there's not a "m…

I don't disagree with anecdotes as evidence, but claiming that there are a huge amount of anecdotes is different than showing that there actually are that many anecdotes. I could say "I've heard tons of people say that they've seen only black swans" but that doesn't make it a common anecdote. Just the same, I've heard men claim that women are frequently turned off by virgin partners, but I haven't heard many men give personal anecdotes where they are a virgin and the woman reacts poorly to it. P…

I think that the idea feels atypical for virgin men due to anxiety about the situation, but it's seriously hard to PROVE whether or not the anecdote is actually atypical or not. Unless you've polled men who lost their virginity over 20, it's hard to say for sure that this experience is uncommon.

I mostly hope to go far in my career, do some notable charity work, and be well-received by my community. My ideal home life is a partner, no kids, and a couple of pets. If my partner's "lifelong dream" was to become a husband/father, we'd probably separate before it got to that point because that's just not what I'm looking for. I'm all for domestic life and monogamy, but I'd rather be a Dual Income No Kids power couple with a cute dog and a nice home than a wife, caretaker and homemaker. It's …

Definitely the cases we see of police brutality in the media are some of the most extreme cases, i.e. where police officers use force against completely innocent citizens. That cannot be said to be the full extent of police brutality, however, and I think we need to consider the very real examples that occur when a police officer uses much more force than the situation requires. A little old lady comes out of her house and starts beating on a cop wouldn't be the same as a young, muscular woman b…

Police officers should use only the amount of force they deem necessary for the situation; I'm not sure if a taser or night stick is required in this situation to control the person resisting arrest. People being rude or shitty isn't what we base necessary force on - the officer needs to use their own common sense to ask themselves "what is the least forceful way I can detain a citizen?" and "am I in any threat of real physical danger here?" There are plenty of examples of police using too much …

I think a lot of people do crave unconditional love - someone who will support them no matter what their decisions in life - however unconditional love as a model for a sexual/romantic relationship doesn't sound extremely healthy to me. I want to care about who my partner is and what makes them them - that includes making judgements about them, and by extension excludes unconditional love. Like, I unconditionally love my mother while at the same time I can admit that she was extremely abusive, s…

This is after 10 years of falling for stereotypes of "players". aka natural alpha men. Men who are insecure and cry when she breaks up with them are natural alphas?

A real-life role model does not have to be a singular person you aspire to be like, or a person who embodies everything you aspire to be like. They just have some traits that you find admirable and would like to emulate or see emulated by other people. E.g. "An ideal male role model donates to charity" does not mean "all good men donate to charity, all men who do not donate to charity are not good men". It just means "I consider it a trait that would raise my opinion of a man" or "I would encour…

Different faculties generally expect different things. E.g. History teachers don't give a shit if you believe what you're writing so long as you write it in a way that shows you know the nuances of what happened and you remember a lot of terse details. Law teachers just give a shit that you can form a cohesive argument for or against a position, with enough adequate resources and evidence to lend it credence, regardless of whether or not you remember every single legal precedent. English/literar…

You're not lying for her happiness, you're lying so you can get good grades. I don't have any meaningful answer to whether or not this is "good manipulation", but you shouldn't fool yourself into thinking you're only lying/manipulating "if it makes them happy". You may be excusing this behaviour by telling yourself "I'm sure it makes my teacher SO happy that she has such a progressive feminist student!" but that clearly doesn't seem like your primary motivation. It's like telling a woman you sav…

It's not very logical to use a singular dictionary definition to summarize all possible connotations of a word. Don't ignore someone's context and provide static definitions to supplant your misunderstanding. And still, if you think just doing nice things for a girl means it's likely that she'll fuck you, at best you're going to be pretty damn disappointed.

Anytime you ask someone out, you are expecting them to say yes. I think you're misunderstanding how they used "expecting". If you expect someone to say yes when you ask them out, why are you asking them out in the first place? If I ask someone out, it's because I'm unsure of whether they'll say yes or no. If I expected them to say yes, I'd just tell them we were going out. To "expect" something in this sense is to believe that by acting a certain way, the other party is somehow obligated to give…

You expect that good feeling you get and you value it more then the money You don't give to charity on the condition that you will feel good in return. You give to charity because you think it is a good thing to do, and in turn that happens to make you feel happy. Additionally, even if donating money to charity doesn't make you feel like a saint, it's rare to hear someone say that donating to charity "wasn't worth it" because they didn't get those good feels in return. Expecting sex in return fo…

I feel it's obvious to say women are attracted to attractive guys, so the first point is sort of a misleading one. I like guys who dress well but make it seem effortless, just like a lot of men like well-dressed women who don't appear "high maintenance". But non-nerdy job? Never. Business-types turn me off a lot, especially anyone whose job seems purely financial (just handling money rather than providing a service). I think what I find more attractive is men who work with the public, or men who…

If you think I or my boyfriend are hot enough to hook up with Emma Watson, you're seriously overestimating us. But if it makes you feel better fantasizing about men leaving women for hotter women, then you do you.

Nothing's wrong with people who have casual sex. I'm just already in a relationship, so I'm only looking to make friends, not hookups. Whether you think I'm "hot enough to deserve a relationship" doesn't really matter. I have one.

Having lurked over RP tactics and habits for a while, it's a bit easier to identify when men actually try using those tactics in real life. And while some guys can take sexual/dating advice well, others who use it are just giving women clearer signs to stay away from them for being too "gamey" about it. E.g. When guys think Dark Triad "Narcissism, Machiavellianism, and Psychopathy" will get them chicks, or negging, actively trying to make women feel jealous, straight up gaslighting, mistaking a …

Just like I am now, I'd probably say I'm a feminist ally who believes in equal rights. (I don't call myself a feminist now mostly because I haven't found a satisfactory definition of feminism) I can't imagine a male version of myself being attractive. Some of my features are a bit too rounded and childlike to make an attractive adult male. But, then again, those are features I develop because hormones, so in reality, male me could pretty much look like anything. I might have had one or two extra…

You can't really summarize it all with the word "equal". There are a lot of different ways we compare gender equality in context. Like, do men and women have the same social freedoms? Are men and women allowed to own the same kind of property? Do men and women have unfettered access to the same kinds of lifestyles (can a woman become a doctor as easily as a man? Can a man become a stay at home parent as easily as a woman? Can both be respected as such?) And, if they can't, is it an issue of ineq…

The only thing that seems inaccurate here is the idea that women settle down to "appear respectable". As others have already said here, women are just more prone to contracting sexually transmitted infections. We're also the only ones at risk for becoming pregnant. While having different sexual partners over a shorter period of time (short term relationships, FWB, one night stands, etc.) can be fun for a while, it's a pretty high-risk endeavour for most women. It's also a pretty hard lifestyle t…

Going to the gym doesn't have an end goal. Sure, people go to the gym to "get in shape", but you can always work out to maintain that shape, or work out to get in better shape than before. If we're going by this comparison, there's no end goal to TRP. The only reason people would still be here is if they want to keep trading up sexual partners for "better" ones, or maintain a successful non-monogamous lifestyle.

Well, most fad diets aren't successful. So, if you're making the comparison between TRP and dieting, you're saying that most people won't find success with TRP. And besides, not every fat person goes on a diet, the same way not every single man who has trouble communicating with women goes to TRP for help.

And a higher value woman is what? Just a more attractive woman? Are there other factors in what TRP considers a valuable woman than physical attraction, sexual submissiveness, and youth? Most of the tactics I've seen championed by TRP are those that I would consider to be attractive to serial daters, not people looking for commitment. If you attract a woman with these tactics, I honestly don't feel as if she'll be someone who will "want commitment as well".

But my point was having high SMV doesn't guarantee you anything other than a slightly wider selection of one night stands. And if that is all you're after, then congratulations! I guess TRP worked for you.

useful advice that actually works Again, the idea that TRP "actually works" continues to get passed around in discussion, but it seems obvious to me that it's always left vague what exactly is "working", especially when men can be after completely different things when seeking sexual gratification or relationships with women. I find it hard to understand what would be appealing about an ideology that reduces men to "all men want women who respond to these tactics" and "all women want men who use…

What makes me curious about this is that TRP is often talked about or suggested as a forum where men can honestly share their opinions about gender politics and sexual encounters, but if the reality is that there isn't "varied discussion" in TRP, then it's not really true that men can openly share their opinions. It's only true that men can get validation from other men about a certain subset of opinions. The opposite of "varied discussion" is, quite plainly, an echo chamber.

Is your sexual market value just "how many people on average find you sexually attractive"? Because, I can imagine even having a high "SMV" doesn't guarantee that you're going to find a sexual partner you enjoy being with, or feel like your sex life has improved significantly. I guess I just feel like I'm missing out on why some guys talk about TRP like it makes their life substantially better instead of just giving them a few more options for one night stands.

I don't think there's enough proof to back up this claim. Nor is it the only possible reason people come back to TRP. The ideas in TRP validate people who feel like there's a tangible reason beyond their control why they haven't had the same success in dating and sexual activity as other men. Whether or not following TRP rules leads to success in that area, it gives those who subscribe to it a sense of community and worth. It unites people who feel unsatisfied and gives them something they can a…

I'm not sure if I agree that "It's one of the few places you can discuss gender politics as a man and be absolutely honest as well". If you agree with the general consensus of ideas and ideology shared by TRPers, then it's absolutely a place you can be an honest man and discuss gender politics sincerely. But, I feel that if your view of sexual encounters, and especially your view of women/feminism, differs enough from what TRP has deemed truthful, you don't get people saying "that's an interesti…

Sexual orgasm isn't purely determined by one kind of stimulation for anyone. Sounds, sights, scents, thoughts can all play a factor in how quickly and intensely someone orgasms. So while boob size might not affect how a man's sexual organ is being physically stimulated, it affects his visual stimulation - it is a mental factor in sexual activity. Touching breasts adds a physical stimulation that isn't directly linked to the sexual organ either. Similarly, while most women need clitoral stimulati…
