While I understand why you think that, it simply isn't how the court system works. There is only one way he made it to this situation, and it's by not showing up in the first place.

No, it doesn't say that. But had he bothered to show up to court in the first place, we wouldn't be hearing about this. If he hadn't been properly served in the first case, then his lawyer would have already had the initial judgement vacated, and we wouldn't be hearing about this. The fact that we are hearing about this means neither of those things happened. Which means he was properly served and ignored the summons.

He was served with the initial suit and didn't show up. You can't just not show up to court without ramifications.

You missed a few lines at the beginning: "Hey, the mom says this is your kid" "Hey, are you showing up to court to say this isn't your kid?" "Fine. You didn't show up to court, we're entering a default judgement against you." -- 15 years later --

This guy was served way back in the day and didn't show up to court. He got a default judgement against him. That's how this whole thing happened. It isn't some corrupt system, it's a guy who is a fucking moron.
