Maybe taking so many causes you to come off as robotic, saying the same lines.

Find what makes her miserable and lean into that behavior. Be observant of her behaviors and look for the misstep. I got lucky and found something on mine and this leverage has forced her to mediation. She now doesn’t want trial and have us air everything out. She always was the type to act as if she’s so perfect and I did all wrong.

I’m finding the key is to busy yourself and focus on improvement. Identify your deficiencies and do anything at all to address those. Everyone has limiting areas and ways others can seem better so don’t focus on others. I find with each small win or achievement I feel a little better and I can see a path forward to begin to lay itself before me. Once you can do that I believe that the other things fall into place so I trust and have a little faith. I am still in the dark space as well, living wi…

Good luck. I gave mine a heads up but hindsight, may have more impact letting it surprise her

I’m guessing you live in a populated area. 27 is a lot.

Sometimes I envy those that it’s so cut and dry (her talking to other men). It would be easier to get angry.

Oh I have. Trial on the docket. But with that comes the daily fear and doubt. Make no mistake, I am resolved to see this through but Reddit provides a welcome distraction while waiting…at Xmas…cohabitating with someone who hates you…and 2 kids that are sick of it all. All the unknowns are what drive you mad which is why I’m curious what percentage people ended up losing.

I think it’s 21 in MS but I may be wrong. I’m not looking to be cheap. I’m assuming 40% of take home is gone and hopefully not that much. My plan is to offer to pay 100% kids insurance and 3000$ yr in medical (since I’m doing this already and no way they use that) plus 70% extra curricular in the hopes that a judge sees this as going above and beyond.

Wild stats since men are always portrayed as such “dawgs”

CS yes but not alimony. She will claim she gave up her career to care for the kids which is half true. Truth is she never wanted to go back to that career. We are over 20yrs married so there is a small chance for lifetime alimony. Hoping this is not the case.

Kudos. Mind me asking what you do for work?

Oh ok. Hell I’d give her 100% of home equity and 401k for no support and to just go away. You got off good

60% of take home??

Thank you for this extensive story. I see a lot of familiar lines to my story. How much more did you make to get stuck with that much alimony??? I make roughly 100k more than her and she makes very little but she has a degree and is underemployed. Good thing you didn’t have kids I suppose. Also she refuses to mediate. Our court date is 5 months out so I hope this changes suddenly as we don’t have the money to fight and I’m willing to negotiate.

Thank you. This is what I am looking for. Do you mind me asking what was the difference in salary between you and her? How long was the marriage and how old are the kids? You can DM me if you don’t want to post this here.

And if you don’t mind my asking, how much did the trial portion cost?
/r/Divorce_Men19/12/23 06:38 PM

What prevented settling? 20 from the date you filed? Mines been 6months, trial in 5mo. But the marriage was over far longer.

Ok, well I’m still holding onto the hope that she doesn’t push for trial. I cannot imagine adding months after months after months.

I don’t really have #2 is the problem. Everyone I interact with, I’m more the authority figure so opening up is not proper. I’m not doing #3 as I should but I’m good on the rest. While I appreciate the list, it’s not exactly helping. I just have faith it’s the right decision and that it will get better one day.

Choices, sure, but I bet a vast majority of these choices are more likely to be married or have some other hidden secrets. Not that all the women are golden either but I think it balances out. Could you imagine how much trouble you’d be in if 1 of every 2 matched? At least our problems are filtered out before they become problems.

“Separated” under the same roof. Took the kids for a few days out of town without her. But this back half of the week off has been beyond lonely. I cannot wait to get back to work next week but wait….i get a Jury duty summons for Monday.

No I’m trying to make this transition as smooth as she will allow. She was the type that threatened divorce for years, doesn’t know how we even got married, anything she can throw to get at me. So I called her bluff.

This is just a claim she states, nothing filed. I filed on her for the behavoir

I always hear this and want to believe courts see it like this. I’m in a backwards state that seems as if they could deny my fault but then again I may just be over thinking it.

I’m guessing piling on debt in her name.
/r/Divorce_Men10/08/23 03:53 PM

I agree. I proposed what I thought was a fair settlement and said modify it how you see fit. She refused so I filed with a fault or we can do irreconcilable. She claims to only want to fight the accusation.

I am waiting out my 30 days from serving her. She’s acting as if she intends to fight it out to disprove my “emotional abuse claims” (not in a no fault state). This has gone on far too long and I think we are deep into the mental emotional manipulation phase now. I wish I could find more re-affirming cases where people prove this ground and get out.

I get your sentiment and to a degree I share your view. If I presume you actually wanted a counter argument, I guess I would say, “to each his own”. Some people want to do a deep dive into their psyche and try everything to make their time here meaningful and to die fulfilled. Others may fear this and hide from it. Also, James Bond was a character and a lot of our grandfathers suffered deep trauma from wars and hardship. I’d imagine they didn’t let their grandchildren see this side of themselves…

Therapy is just talking, really it’s almost just talking to yourself. Most of my revelations were of me just voicing a thought out loud and having that validated. The stigma attached to it is just wrong. It’s like a shortcut to your own realizations.

Similar situation here. I decided to file last week and she is pulling out all the stops to guilt me into staying. For me it came down to imagining living out life without someone i cannot talk to, who shows no affection towards me and from the best i can tell, only keeps me around for my ability to pay bills. I have no advice other than to say, it's hard and i wish i had initiated this sooner.

“The best revenge is living well”. Maybe im in the minority but i don’t carry ill feelings for someone. If you are in a good place and wont fall victim to anything she may try, then why not?

In my situation it was a manipulation tactic. I don’t believe she ever intended or intends to files. Longer its drawn out the more you owe her.

Im a man and i sort of respect her for this. How many men out there are looking for affairs and are not upfront. Sure the privacy part isnt great but this is the world today.

I’ve trying to get to this point so this gives me hope. Retained a lawyer but struggling with essentially taking everything from her and the kids.
