The European court of human rights is not an EU court. It is a separate entity under the council of Europe, not the European Union. The UK has not voted to leave the council of Europe or the jurisdiction of the European court of human rights.

It's a historical offense. That means they have to try her and sentence her according to the laws that were in place at the time of the offense. The judge clearly says that were she to commit the same offense today she would be jailed.

Security directives are created by the department for transport, not a separate agency which needs to justify its existence, and the security at the airports themselves is done by either private companies contracted by the airport itself, or by airport employees.

Yeah they could have, generally the universities apply some funding to the unions, they could definitely have threatened to cut that. IMO the real crime here is the total lack of disgust by her fellow students. I honestly can't believe the petition did not succeed in getting her removed.

Parent and child spots are normally near the door so that they don't have to risk walking across the parking lot and the kid running into traffic, I think that is reasonable.

This is in the uk, where loans come from the government and you don't have to pay anything back until you earn over £21000 a year. And even then the rate you pay it back at depends on how much you earn. If your income drips below that you stop paying again.

I live in the UK, still much rather here then the USA in terms of gun culture. They aren't confiscating kitchen knives. They confiscate knives over 4 inches with a locking blade that you have in public for no legitimate reason. If you are a chef, or walking home from having bought a knife at the shop then it isn't an issue.

I mean the newspaper is known to sensationalise topics, and has been caught out numerous times falsifying quotes and even entire stories. It is probably the least respected mainstream paper in the UK after The Sun. It's nickname in the UK is 'the Daily Fail' and there is even a website dedicated to catching it out.

As you said 'the judge has the final decision' they will listen to the child sure. But that child is a minor and as such is totally at the mercy of the court. Also this child is not from the eu and custody was given to the father in a foreign court, so the eu cannot just then tell the kid to choose when he isn't a citizen.

I live in the UK and know a few people involved in the law side of things. A 'life sentence' in the UK normally carries a minimum term and they qualify for parole after 15 years or so. So it isn't really a life sentence. We do have a thing called a 'whole life order' where you can be put in prison for the remainder of your life, but it is so rarely it is pointless talking about it.
