Also very left here. I'm not much for conspiracy theories, but the schism identity politics has created in the left wing is so convenient for vested interests it's hard to think it's not being purposefully exacerbated.

I just got finished reading the entire document. The ruling is very clear, and unbiased in any way. I know that legal documents are intimidating, difficult for most people to get through, but this ruling is extremely understandable and written for the layman.

I find that words like "Progressive Feminist," "Liberal," "Conservative," are nearly useless because of their constantly changing definitions. Basically all it tells you is that the person labels themselves in a certain way, it can't tell you what definition of that label they use. Part of that is the quickly changing socio-political landscape, part of it is the result of slander or purposeful mislabelling by opposing groups. Over the last year "MRA" has been suffering from a slander campaign, s…

Viral behaviour on a social scale. It's the nature of successful ideas: they are successful because they are designed to spread and dominate, otherwise they would remain niche. Socialism, industrialism, successful religions, etc, are all successful because they are aggressive about proselytizing basically by any means necessary. Revolutions, religions, ideologies, they all are birthed because there are perceived issues. They gain strength because they have some good points that win them supporte…

I agree, there are many innocent men that are sent to prison on basically no evidence. The justice system is very broken. I'm just saying that the nature of rape means that there will inevitably be actual rape cases that go un-prosecuted because the justice system in those cases is unable to gather sufficient evidence to build a viable case, and unwilling to railroad an innocent man. It does happen some, so stating (in the title of the OP) that fully 94% of claims are complete bullshit is unreal…

I didn't suggest we should lower our standards for evidence. I would strongly argue against doing that: for example, I think the current state of university tribunals make them little better than primitive tribal courts. I was just saying that the percentage of bullshit claims are basically unknown, due to the nature of the crime in question.
/r/MensRights05/11/15 07:30 PM

The really horrible thing about rape is that it's so hard to prove, barring extreme physical abuse or witnesses. It's so often a matter of two conflicting stories, either of which could have happened, neither of which can be proved. I wouldn't doubt that some percentage are completely fictitious, but some percentage are certainly true, but unfortunately unprovable.

They bullied and emotionally abused you. It wasn't physical abuse, but it was cruel and needless. You don't need to be embarrassed, or attempt to invalidate your feelings because you weren't physically harmed. They entrapped you, embarrassed you, abused you emotionally, and ostracized you from their group. That hurts. Personally speaking, the most memorable and painful abuses of my life were times when I felt left out or ostracized. And it still hurts; I still relive those moments sometimes. I'v…

The novels are middling dry, but there are good reasons why the first novel is the bestselling science fiction novel of all time. Many people enjoy the first three novels, most dislike the fourth, and there are six in the original saga. Personally, I find the latter novels to be very enjoyable, even more deeply philosophical, also providing great sociological insight.

This is what happens when revolution becomes bureaucracy, it does what bureaucracy does: secures future funding by defending its own usefulness and burns down anyone that says it may not be useful. Counter-revolution and new thought is dangerous to the entrenched bureaucracy. If you want to learn more about shit like this, read the various original Dune novels.

"What it did do was expose me, again and directly, to the ways we treat women when there is a decision to be made about their bodies: We judge, pressure, and publicly debate a woman’s ability to direct her own life." Saying FGM has no bearing on circumcision is really only a point as far as feminist erasure of the issue of MGM. They are really the same issue, and THAT'S the issue I have with feminists, main stream media, and governments ignoring circumcision of male babies by the hundreds and millions, while condemning and making illegal the mutilation of girls. I also really don't think that it's entirely about ignoring men's issues (though that is definitely a part of it). It's mostly about side-stepping r…

And it's unfortunate for you that your passion lies in an industry that is overwhelmingly feminist. Logically, you make friends at work, and of course many of your workmates are otherwise very reasonable and good people, they are just not tolerant of dissenting viewpoints. It sounds like you are realizing that you are hemmed in by feminists and that some of them will eat you alive if they can. That's scary. What? So you're saying that MRA's aren't harassed or bullied for openly holding those views? Then what are you afraid of? I mean, earlier you clearly say that you fear social reprisal (literally having no friends), and even career reprisals (being skipped over for parts, etc). That sounds like harassment and bullying to me. While MRAs aren't getting beaten and killed, we certainly face prejudice.

I think that's the reason that the more old-fashioned high-end places mainly have male servers.
/r/MensRights03/01/15 07:38 AM

There are definitely male servers, but they are pretty rare here (Vancouver, BC). I've rarely seen them at all, and the only places I can think of that hire male server are catering companies and high-end restaurants. Catering (hotel or on-site) is basically on-call seasonal work, and high-end places usually require 2-5 years experience. You might get hired as a busser at a high-end joint, working towards serving, but as you might imagine, competition for those spots is fierce and nepotism commo…

Despite the open sexist policy, my bosses are otherwise pretty nice people that I enjoy working with. They're hard workers and the restaurant is their livelihood. They're my age, mid-to-late twenties. Punishing them for an industry-wide problem would be pretty shitty. I work in a kitchen because restaurants don't hire male servers. I have a history of customer service and good recommendations, but some owners/managers literally said to my face "we only hire women as servers." The only male server working at the restaurant I am employed at was hired as a favour to an owner, the male bar tender, and is one of his friends. A few months before that man was hired on, that same bar tender and another owner, the female front of house manager, had remarked to me that…

Sounds like she's starting to become aware of the conditions the human male faces in life. She's obviously still viewing things through a blaming feminist window. What? When I spend time with my friends we pay for our own stuff unless one of us is feeling generous and picks up the check. If I invite 4 friends out to a movie I'm not asking to pay for four tickets. If I invite people over to my house I might make some food, but that's not an outing.

There has been a long-standing "joke" that men are not as smart as women, it basically started after the rise of feminism, as a reversal of the classic assumption that women were not as smart as men. The use of this trope in advertising has a pretty innocuous start, ads need a reason to begin exposition: a stupid person is an easy start to the exposition and also builds some levity. It's interesting to note that late night television ads and infomercials still sometimes use female dunces to trig…

Ah, thanks for catching that! Fair enough! Personally I've seen discrimination against men (including myself) in hiring practices. I've had managers say to my face that they only hire female servers. So I know that's definitely a thing. You break down of those articles is quite good. I don't think that any reasonable person can argue that hiring discrimination occurs against women applying for some jobs. But women that complain about that discrimination (in construction, in professional settings, etc) will also often completely dismiss the discrimination against men applying for certain jobs (serving, childcare, teaching, customer service, etc). Which is just plain bullshit, and shows what feminism really is: they'll fight against discrimination against women, but when men n…

Sometimes a friend goes to a place where you can't follow. Like deep into a drug addiction, or drink. A controlling partner can be one of those places you can't follow to. Try to contact him and make it clear that you still think of him as a brother, and you hope one day your friendship can continue. I'm saying that even amongst feminists, who certainly DO feel that women CAN do riskier, dirtier, heavier jobs, they overwhelmingly choose NOT to do so. This is because as women society does not pressure them to do so in the same way as men. Men are pressured to make as much money as they can, in no small part because being financially secure (no matter the personal risk or physical cost) is attractive to women. Of course, women are likewise pressured to be beautiful and raise children. Sexism e…

Did I say they were "easy" jobs? I said that men are pushed by society towards more risky jobs. You are putting words in my mouth and that's "really dishonest." And actually, in the scope of human history, the majority of women have had to work in some way. They just didn't work in mines, they worked in fields and homes. Rich women didn't work at all, but otherwise women worked quite hard. Women still work, and work hard. But they aren't pushed towards risky jobs by society, so why would they ta…

This is always a stupid argument... When women are permitted to take jobs like soldier, garbage collector, miner, machinist, they still overwhelmingly choose low-risk jobs like server, realtor, secretary. The reason why is pretty simple: on average men are still pushed towards being the primary breadwinner, to make enough money to support a family alone, no matter the cost or risk to himself. It's always hilarious when feminists say "women can do anything a man can do" (and they can, I agree) bu…

I think that we ARE fighting for the same thing, speaking broadly. But feminists are used to fighting for their issues, and focusing on women's problems. Many haven't taken the time, or been pointed towards, applying the same egalitarian philosophy to the treatment and situations men face in society. Society is sexist against men and women. The sexism against women is in the spotlight, and it can blind even good people to the plight of men, especially since sexism is the default view. Of course,…

Sure! It's just that anti-feminist is pretty much interchangeable with misogynist nowadays, or at best suggests diametric opposition, rather than disagreement/criticism. Not to say MRHM should be afraid to oppose feminists when they try to push, say, universities to expel men without proper due process of law and legal protections guaranteed under law. What makes that harder is the fact that feminists have already used this term "one of the good ones" to describe women's feelings when people around them (read: men) use misogynistic generalizations about women within their hearing. Not only is it an insult to what black people suffered during that time, it's dangerously illogical to frame issues as absolutely binary. Issues aren't always binary. Just because women have issues they need to fight for doesn't mean that men don't/can't have issues as well. And we don't have to ignore men's issues until ALL women's issues are dealt with.

I think the main issue I have with feminism as it stands right now is that it's become orthodoxy. There's a core of feminist ideas that CANNOT be questioned. The guardians of that orthodoxy are in Women's Studies faculties. There is a pretty good comparison to be made with the Catholic Church and religious studies. The worst part of it is the attitude that women's sexuality is meant to be freed and is empowering, while men's sexuality is "dangerous" and to be controlled, monitored and shamed. I realize that this isn't universal, but the use of porn and sex toys seems like one of the most glaring and common hypocrisies. There are plenty of "feminists" that own small collections of sex toys, read erotic fiction, and speak out against "slut shaming," but none of that stops them from thinking (and saying) "ew"…

What? If a woman decides to get pregnant, or to keep a child, men absolutely have no say in those decisions. Which I think is good. But that women can then force men to pay and pay and pay for decisions outside of their control, that takes away men's bodily autonomy. To say that legal matters regarding parenthood have nothing to do with bodily autonomy is just incorrect, especially when men are literally bodily constrained -in prison- when the refuse, or can't pay. And money is literally an expr…

Sure, for any actual assault or abuse CHARGES, but once the man is free and wants to see his kid(s) again, he's fucked unless he can prove that the woman is abusive or lying.

What isn't a bodily autonomy issue for men?

What? We're agreeing. I said I support women's bodily autonomy, but want more bodily autonomy for men as well. You just said the same thing. I'm saying that posts like this are about the fact that there's little open discussion of male bodily autonomy and when it's brought up one is met with cries of "you're derailing, privileged shitlord!"

Basically unless the child was obviously injured and the police observed that (unlikely since they removed him from the home), if your friend's gf lies and says he's the abuser, he's fucked. There's no burden of evidence in these cases, accusation (by women) is taken as evidence and must be disproved by showing the woman is acting maliciously or abusively.

I think the real issue is that men don't have that bodily autonomy yet. Right now women can choose whether or not they want to become mothers, but a man can only choose whether he wants to have a sex life (since no male birth control is 100 percent effective, no female birth control is 100 percent effective, and men have no rights in family court). Men are essentially in the place women were in 60 years ago: if you have sex, you're risking a lifetime of servitude. Women (as long as they are will…

I once had a friend of a friend tell me that, no matter what, complimenting a random woman was invasive and unwanted and not cool. I told her that I complimented random women very rarely, and only when it could be completely non-threatening and when I was about to move away from them, expecting nothing, not even a response or to start a conversation. I should have just said "only a Sith uses absolutes."

I'm a larger dude. I ALWAYS book an aisle seat. For my comfort and that of those in the other seats.

While I'd say that they are far and away the main enablers of the diamond trade, I think that men's diamond studded watches and rings are still a thing. Not things that almost anyone I know would buy, but there are men that would, and do.

You're talking about "duh PATRIARCHY (tm)" as sold by modern feminism. We're talking about reality, in which "patriarchy" already has a serviceable meaning.

There are plenty of young sociopaths of both genders, and they wouldn't need much of an excuse to pull something like this. Maybe the guy gave one of them a bad mark on a spelling test, or maybe they just didn't like the style of shirt he wore one day. We'll never know.

This is exactly why there is such a term as "female circumcision," because male circumcision was/is accepted as normal. Feminists avoided that argument by making their own term to discuss ONLY female genital mutilation. This decision was probably a mixture of cowardice (let's just ignore that and focus on "our" issue, otherwise powerful religious groups will fight us) on some more educated feminists part, and bigotry/stupidity/religiosity on other's parts. Ignoring the male side of the issue als…

I'm Canadian, and usually only emergency mental health is covered for free. Very minimal. There are publicly funded group counselling sessions, I believe, not sure. We desperately need some well-funded public mental health programs.

The most important thing for you right now is to find a therapist that believes you and can help you deal with your suicidal thoughts. I don't know your financial situation, but many have scaled-down rates if you need them. I'm so sorry that people won't believe you. You might consider advocacy as a way of coping and fighting back against rape apologists and misguided "feminist" theory that denies female rape of men and female paedophilia. It's a huge problem that is often ignored, because socie…

The labia are analogous to the foreskin, not the vagina. And they need to be washed to avoid odour and bacteria, just the same as the foreskin.

What? So, hygienically removing ones' smegma causes UTIs? Then why have I never got a UTI?
/r/MensRights28/10/13 10:10 AM

I don't understand, how exactly is it self-cleaning? Smegma develops, smells horrible, and can cause UTIs in sexual partners (if not in oneself, not sure).

Just so you know, modern hygiene has made "circumcision" (read: male genital mutilation) completely unnecessary. Daily showers mean that bacteria have no chance to grow, as long as one washes one's penis thoroughly under the foreskin. It's very easy to do (source: uncut man here). Basically, your teacher is a hypocrite.

I'd guess that if one needs more stimulation to orgasm, one would seek out a wider variety of sensations/experiences/pornography to find that needed stimulation?
