Accused of "filibustering" for a 90 minute speech. American here: you brits are so cute! What's even better is our filibusting politicians are expected to stay approximately on topic! Don't your politicians do wacky stuff like recite Shakespeare (and phone books?!) and complex dish recipes?

I agree the man's approach is immature and inappropriate - but at the same time I don't think he'd be keeping a 2 month record if this hadn't been going on for much, much longer. Maybe I just spent too much time on r/deadbedrooms.

People are not cows, but suddenly deciding you want sex 1-2x per month while expecting your partner to remain faithful is emotional violence. It amounts to "I'm done with regular sex... and so are you."

As Dan Savage put it: "If you don't milk the cow you married, your cow has the means to go out and find someone who will."

Social Democrat. I think capitalism has its flaws, but given the alternatives it should be controlled rather than discarded. I'm also a progressive in nearly all respects.

I'm sorry, what? Is this a spoof article? Whatever happened to all people being equal under the law? If they want to make a separate court for people with specific circumstances (eg being abused as a child), that's different... "Born with a vagina" is not a special set of circumstances.

It's a service industry. Sure, it's not for everyone and there are plenty of opportunities for abuse... But these are only amplified by legislating against it by pushing the sex workers (female and male alike) underground.

No idea if it's coincidence and I think it's dangerous to speculate. If we were to agree rape is largely under-reported, this could well be statistical fluctuation and nothing to do with the policy. 1) This is entirely possible and one would hope this to be the case. 2) I think this makes way too many assumptions, I disagree. I'm all for making prostitution safe and legal but I'm very wary about jumping to conclusions.

It can be potentially attributed to lots of stuff and it's unwise to speculate without proper research (see: lack of pirates causing global warming).

It gives them an edge, sure. But it's the sort of weapon I'd rather not use - it's precisely the sort of thing which discourages rational discussion and promotes echo chambers. That's a high price to pay for winning an argument.

Because using thought terminating cliches is an underhanded tactic and you shouldn't stoop to their level.

just because people think something is deviant does not mean that it is bad. (f*cking right it does) Let's see, other 'bad' acts by this definition... homosexuality, oral, sex outside marriage, trans people, and so on. These people aren't 'deviant' because they like wallowing in their perversion and depravity, but because that's how their brains are wired. Let's go with the author's choice of beastiality or paedophilia. It's not about telling these people "This attraction is perfectly normal and…

Part, but certainly not the core focus. Consider the following facts: 1. On average, men are bigger and / or stronger than women. 2. On average, violent assault involves a male assailant. Therefore while both men and women are just as likely to be attacked by a man, women are statistically more likely to be attacked by someone bigger and / or stronger and would benefit from a program tailored to this scenario. If you would like to know more about martial arts which don't shy away from attacking …

Ninjutsu / MMA /Jujitsu / Karate / Judo. Any of these would work, and make no physical assumptions about either you or your opponent.
/r/MensRights03/03/14 04:15 PM

I don't see a problem. Nothing inherently wrong with teaching women how to fight back against a bigger, stronger assailant. When men face sexual assault (outside of prison) it's usually through coercion and manipulation rather than being physically overpowered - and for the latter most martial arts / dirty fighting will do.

If you notice your first date drinking to the point where you're uncomfortable you don't chastise them, you leave - never mind sleeping with them.
/r/MensRights11/02/14 04:33 PM

I say fair enough. If someone's drinking habits are incompatible with yours, thats a red flag. Someone realising this and then trying to guilt you into drinking less, double red flag. On a first date? Wow.

I think the big issue is 1400 men being executed. Would this be perfectly acceptable if it had been 50: 50?
/r/MensRights06/02/14 09:19 AM

The wage gap does exist, however you attempt to control for it - it's on the order of under 5% rather than the widely cited 30% though, and in some sectors women are paid more than men. Warren Farrel's "Why men earn more" on YouTube is a good start.

Sounds like a good idea, but this would require heavy moderation. I'm pretty sure a focused, reasonable (and therefore credible) approach would attract the ire of many a troll.

You might want to try r/askfeminists instead of r/feminism - they tend to be much more open to enquiries about their movement.

By bringing either gender in, you didn't appeal to honour but to gender roles (boys should protect girls and never harm them). If you want to approach it from the honour angle, the dishonourable thing is to be bullying someone, regardless of the victim's or perpetrator's gender.
/r/MensRights28/01/14 04:45 PM

It was wrong. Appealing to his gender implies he should know better because men are somehow 'better' at this. Saying he should not do this to a girl deepens the problem. You should have said violence and intimidation are wrong, and that he should act rationally. Not as a man, but as a civilised human being. Edit: I wanted to have a look what the other subreddit thought of it but it looks like your post was deleted?

'Rape-facilitating culture', then?

By this definition, 'ending rape culture' implies a total societal moratorium on rape. I have a feeling that would be somewhat counterproductive. I'm sure the ladies at Slut Walk would love to be told they are deepening rape culture.

It's a term (often used by feminists) intended to mean 'explaining something to an experienced listener while assuming total ignorance on their part'. E.g. Economist: "Why do you think we haven't recovered from the recession?" Mansplainer: "Well, a recession is a complicated thing. [Explains what a recession is]"

There is a chance nasty people will set you on fire. We can do several things about this: Teach people how to reduce their chances of being set on fire, and what to do if someone does try to set you alight. Assume people don't know any better because of "Arson Culture" and "Teach People Not To Set Each Other On Fire". Combat Arson Culture by banning firework displays and capaign against media depicting a lot of fire. Assume anyone who advocates against this must be a closet arsonist. Hold the ar…

I am now interested in how you know. You can believe her, but that's different, only she knows. When it's possible that you will be responsible for another human being for the next 16-18 years of your life, it's worth making sure. Do not volunteer your name for the birth certificate. If she insists on your name being on it, insist on a paternity test.
/r/MensRights08/01/14 04:48 PM

The only way 'out' is if the child is not yours. As this is a 'friends with benefits' scenario, it might not be. If she keeps the kid, don't volunteer your name for the birth certificate and insist on a paternity test. Good luck. Edit: To elaborate, birth certificate is everything. If she's happy to have you contribute nothing, she will be happy to put down "Father: Unknown".

I'm not anymore happy about them being on Reddit than I would be about neo-nazis marching in my city. I'm glad the bigotry is out in the open and open to public scrutiny, instead of behind closed doors.

I don't know if the TERFs are getting louder or more numerous, but they're certainly becoming more noticeable. Good. No subset exemplifies the man-hating aspect of radical feminism better than they do. We are often portrayed as 'the other side of the TERF coin'. This is a great chance to prove otherwise.

If by 'preventing justice being done' you mean denying some accusers a day in court, you are absolutely correct. I would define justice as 'convicting the guilty and acquitting the innocent', something this reform may actually work against.

There was a bit of a stir with there being a pregnant trans man in the first place, I wonder how this would shake up the criminal justice system.

If they want gender - neutral roles, they need gender-neutral tests. Will this mean lower overall physical strength as an entry requirement? Unless they want to exclude most female recruits, probably. They can't have it both ways!

Even not having sex won't protect you 100%. Nothing will. Either have sex and take the risk, or don't and reduce it considerably. Whatever lets you sleep at night.

Why the quote marks? Feminism was not once mentioned in the article (which was about gay / poly relationships and marriage). How is this a men's rights issue?

This is actually the funniest shit I've read in a long time. Don't let it ruin your day. Instead, try to picture the author presenting all that drivel with a straight face while the commentariat hold hands and nod vigorously. Day - made!

I imagine it's a nod to the 'political lesbians' or 'pretendbians' - women deliberately rejecting their heterosexuality because of their sense of sisterhood (read: hatred of men). Those I can definitely see steering feminism into all kinds of crazy.

Add to that the fact that prostitution (indeed sex work in general) offers very high pay/hr (especially considering the qualifications / level of experience required) and is incredibly flexible in terms of working hours...

Here we have a link which proves it does happen to underage boys, it's not productive to say "well it might happen to girls too!". If you could do some research and come back with just one case where it has happened to an underage girl in the real world, your point will be valid.
/r/MensRights12/12/13 08:06 AM

In practical terms, I find it hard to believe that an underage girl buying sex from an adult male escort in Sweden would end up being the one getting prosecuted. Any proof to the contrary?
/r/MensRights12/12/13 07:45 AM

Your link is misleading. The done thing is to say "Ah, sorry guys - I meant this to show the history of misandry. I'll take more care when naming my links in the future." I guarantee people would sympathise more than when you go on the defensive like this.
