I’m so sorry he did that to you. No one deserves that kind of pain. Sending you a big hug

I think that feelings of anger can be seen as a good thing - it’s a normal reaction. It’s your mind picking up and recognising that you have been wronged, treated unfairly, used, etc. Use it in the future and listen to it if it arises again - use it to protect yourself. Feelings have a purpose if we acknowledge them and work through their meaning :)

This is spot on. On more than one occasion I’ve had guys say things like, “yeah but plenty of other women have let me do X (sexual activity I have previously declared to be uncomfortable with)”. My favourite answer to this is to smile and sweetly say, “that’s so great! You’re a lucky man. You’re most welcome to leave and find someone else to do that with”. Not only does it reinforce a boundary but it also shuts them up right quick.

I’m reading this at the moment too! It’s so well-written, full of wisdom and strategy, relatable, and informative. Definitely and highly recommended.

He needs to think about WHY women become homeless. So often women are abused, threatened, or stalked, or otherwise forced to move from home - as consequences of male actions, no less - and even then women are still strong enough to seek shelters, use any and all resources at their disposal, and slowly build themselves up again. He can kindly go fuck himself with something sharp and sand-papery.

It took me a really long time too. I genuinely didn’t understand how another person could exploit another’s vulnerabilities in those ways. Now that I can see through people’s behaviours a bit better I can spot trouble from a mile away! As horrible as it is, you will learn so much from this experience - not only about other people, but most importantly, yourself. It sounds like your mom and grandma are wonderful supports. Always remember, don’t be afraid to lean on them if you feel the need :) th…

It takes an astonishing amount of strength to not only realise that you’re being abused, but to take every painful step to escape. I know that a lot of us here have been in similar situations. Now is the time to be extra kind to yourself and be surrounded by those who love and care about you. Just know that this stranger is over the moon for you!

This is a great achievement and a big step. Resisting the urge to check in on people from your past is really important, especially for mental health. Besides, you could be spending that extra time focusing on something more worthwhile! Such as yourself :)

If anyone criticises or judges the way you laugh then they are not someone worth having around. Genuinely laughing is one of the best parts of life! Putting someone down for expressing joy is such a low act, and no one deserves to be treated like that. It’s a form of negging in my mind.

Yes! It’s been said before - men only want to impress, and care about the opinions of... other men.

Thank you for writing this post. It’s something that for me would have gone unobserved in the past. Now my eyes will be more open to fraudulent claims from individuals like this who clearly shouldn’t have access to such a megaphone to spew such damaging ‘advice’.

What better way to control a woman than to have complete financial dominance over her. Fuuuuuck that.

I can very much relate to this, I definitely hear you. Finding your voice is hard work but it’s well worth the effort. Once you’ve found it it can often make people around you uncomfortable when they sense the change from passive to assertive, and unfortunately there can be blow-back which can leave you feeling shaken and unsure. Perhaps you weren’t as mean or harsh as you perceived yourself to be? It’s a big change for you as well, after all, and change can cause discomfort, even in yourself. Y…

I never tell a guy that I own my own place, and will happily let him assume that I’m renting. People (not just partners) who find out rarely treat me the same. I worked so hard to get where I am and there’s 0% chance I’m gonna let anyone try and take that away from me.

I highly recommend reading ‘Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents’. I was emotionally neglected by unstable parents who were both different in their behaviours, but both were as equally as damaging as the other. It is incredibly insightful and well worth the read. It has provided answers to questions I never even knew I had, and has taught me many things which I can now carry with me. :)
