You might be pleasantly surprised how far "Thank you for your service" will carry a man through the day. Even if he has not served, it suggests he could. At the very worst it might even encourage someone to be more civic-minded, which is a self rewarding virtue.
if you want to get on board a social movement that will be a good cause and push for greater equality, I suggest groups that advocate for bodily autonomy. this may sound crude but male circumcision is genital mutilation, and yes it's just as bad as FGM. it's a serious issue in the US most of all, though not well understood by those that foolishly allow it to continue.
only in an organic sense, as humans being a social species tend to relegate tasks to those who either are or seem to be best qualified to undertake them for the common good. That is not to say people actually have the merit to accomplish those tasks.
