Please read Simon Baron-Cohen's "extreme male brain" theory. You can look at some peer-reviewed papers online, there are hundreds. He, in short, explains how the Broca's and Wernicke's areas as well as emotional centres of the brain are impaired in autistic people, whilst the cerebellum and corpus callosum have greater density. Brain laterlisation is also increased. This predisposes the person to think in patterns, logic and prefer rules and order to spontaneity and emotion.
