(Puts on flame suit) Because none of those people have a chaplain to talk to. Doesn’t matter what faith. When you don’t have that, the capitalist equivalent is available.

Yup. Just like the mechanic with the wife's car having problems and the carpenter with the crappy house. A lot of people put a lot of care and thought into their craft when they get paid for it, then utterly forget that it has applicability to their own lives. Obviously not everyone fits in this category, but it is a fairly common phenomenon.

Think about it, you know absolutely nothing about this person other than their appearance. You don't know if she shares similar beliefs to you, you don't know if she's a good person, and in all likelihood, she probably already have a boyfriend. If you think someone is worth dating just because you think they are attractive, then I think you should reevaluate your priorities and think about what makes a successful relationship. Do you really think you'll meet the love of your life because you tho…

In my definition of love one doesn't lie about a commonly accepted boundary in relationships. What that boundary is is non-relevant when it is defined as "cheating." In the phases of a relationship you go from knowing someone, to liking them, to trusting them, to loving them. Cheating destroys that trust/honesty matrix which destroys the love matrix, which is why when people find out they have been cheated on, they generally have a near universal negative response.

I'm gonna ask: How do your reconcile your belief structure with the fact that you've identified it as fundamentally incompatible with the most basic functions of a family unit? If you can't scale it to a family unit, how the fuck can it scale as a form of government? Your cognitive dissonance is quite frankly impressive as fuck.

Do you advertise your upbringing on the first date? Because that's the only reason people would need to make an exception for you starting out.

You will pay penalties on the roth if you withdraw within the first 5 years. (EDIT: This is wrong, ignore this line) And the IRAs have a lot more legal entanglements than you're covering here. There are other better vehicles than an IRA for what you're trying to do here. If you're dead set on one of those vehicles being a retirement plan, a 401k at least you can take a loan against and not trigger penalties. The interest also goes into your own account. That minimizes the catastrophic damage you…

If you do some more digging into QDROs you'll discover that if you cash out some of your IRA during a divorce the judge may award a larger share of the remainder to your spouse. So not only did you take an early withdrawal loss but what's left has a larger share going to your spouse. It's very much a lose-lose situation for that purpose.

If you have a secret account, please take the time to actually put your spouse or kids (or spouse, with kids as contingent) as a beneficiary on the account. This entitles those people to nothing while you are alive, but should you unexpectedly die they will have access to those funds. I'm personally against the idea of secret accounts, but I'm also against the idea of joint accounts. You can set up financial firewalls but still have things like beneficiaries that protect the family against the r…

Let me just say that separately from your personal needs/feelings, from a planning perspective having him leave a tenured job for potentially higher paying pastures when you already are bringing in more money during a financially turbulent time in the world is just a horrifyingly bad idea. Separate from the above, I'd suggest that you reframe your perspective a bit. If he is doing less child care/domestic tasks, either you will HAVE to do them (your income WILL fall) or you'll have to hire someo…

So... what are the barriers to getting married? If it's being shy due to a prior divorce, work with him to hammer out a prenup that addresses that. If marriage as a construct no longer interests him AT ALL, it is also time to figure that out and work out if you are ok with such a life arrangement.

Guy here: tl;dr: Don't overthink it. Long version: You are both new to this relationship. The guy is going to invest as much time and money into the initial phase of this relationship as he thinks you are worth. He's made a declaration that he is more than ok spending a pretty penny on you on what should be quite a concert experience. You're both young. Enjoy that experience. Should I say anything at all? "Thank you!" Skip the protein smoothie, go for the bubble tea. And enjoy your new relations…

I really appreciate this. It is more than a little frustrating because this is one of the subreddits where I try to give a bit extra effort in responses because generally people are asking in good faith and want to learn, and when someone deletes a comment it makes me question that "good faith" part of the equation. It is strange though that this sort of post-and-delete situation is happening at a sharp uptick in this group. I'm curious what the driver of that might have been.

Women are one of the most neglected demographics by doctors when it comes to identifying issues, either ones caused by meds like BC or just regular issues women have being dismissed (more often than not by female doctors.) One of the reasons the FDA used to be a lot more stringent on approving things is because most drugs that are taken to trials work perfectly fine in men but can really fuck up a woman's endocrine system and/or cause truly horrifying birth defects. Sometimes the benefits so out…

Absolutely not. If you can make 65k/year with benefits (dental careers provide LOTS of benefits) make it... and find a man who makes more if you want your man to make more money than you. Don't settle for less! NO! You can work and date at the same time. It isn't too hard to find a work/life balance. It does, however, take planning, which is mentally strenuous work that no one likes doing, but pays dividends in the long run for any lifestyle. Put that money towards YOU. You don't know how life w…

I'm glad. Some of the work that I do usually involves cleaning up the messes that are left when people don't do these basic things, so the more people that do this, the less times I have to explain to guardians or kids why their lives are about to suck so much more than they otherwise would.

I'm gonna post some hypotheticals. WARNING , may get dark. Hypothetical 1. You have a kid. Everything is AWESOME! You leave your house, go to the store, and FROM OUT OF NOWHERE a drunk driver at excess speed runs into you and kills you. Under the law, who gets custody of the kid immediately after your death? Is it Child Services since there is no married father in the picture until they can sort things out? Who gets the properties in the event of your death? Who gets access to your bank accounts…

What troubles me is that my boyfriend never seems to notice or mention my non-physical qualities. Your man is (clearly) visual. So are there visual cues to your non-physical qualities that you can bring into play? I mean, assuming your workout regimen and your reddit meta analytics portray you somewhat accurately, you're probably more beautiful than the average woman. That means you sometimes have to work at having cerebral conversations because the guy you are talking to kinda checked out menta…

As a guy, I'd suggest against this. Primarily because the way I'd respond to this would be to simply stop all physical compliments. Problem solved! Oh wait... I'd suggest instead of bringing up the excess attention to instead bring up the things you want to hear more of. If you work the things you want to be noticed more into the conversation, you can work out a more natural balancing act instead of creating a potential where rather than the guy trying to gauge what the "correct number" of physi…

With the first link the chain is forged. The first lie will lead to the second, and third, and soon enough the chain you forge will irrevocably chain you down. I can think of very few ways to damage a relationship faster than this. I'd instead just say you haven't found the right friends yet.

Unfortunately I'm not OK with him fucking somebody else. You mean: Fortunately. Having standards and sticking to them isn't something to be ashamed of. Does anybody on here have advice on how to talk to him about that being a deal breaker Honesty. Infidelity at this stage isn't something you can accept because if he will cheat at this point, there isn't anything stopping him later on. I'd go the extra step since he brought this up and make sure a prenup is favorable to the wronged party in case …

Guy's perspective: The roles have changed and I am now the gatekeeper of commitment and he’s offering me an open marriage so we can stay in this platonic marriage (which makes no sense to me because I can get a man to love me and want to have sex with me and provide for me). I think he may be offering this to you as a stopgap because as you mentioned in another post: this marriage is providing me residency in his country I mean from appearances he is trying to do right by you within his mental f…

If it's just a perception thing at the table, get a dedicated credit card for restaurants, see if maybe there is one that provides decent points for the purpose given the amount being done. Send him half the amount of the credit card statement once a month.

Take that additional income and put it into your retirement plans. Max them out. Also look into if any index universal life insurance policies might be appropriate. Talk with a financial advisor about putting together a plan. He might be shouldering the burden now, but you can make your future retirement VERY cozy by living within his means and investing in your combined futures.

One of the most important things you can do to build your independence is to build a model day/week/month of the things you want and need to do to be independent. The mundane and yet highly important tasks of keeping your house in order up to your planned education and training to further your financial capabilities and career are things that should go into that plan. And don't despair when things don't go as planned. Failure is an education as well.

When you ask "Feminists" to define Feminism they almost always parrot the "equality" definition when by every measure the LAST thing they are interested in is anything that is actual equality. Self honesty is just completely missing from their paradigm.
