I wasn't indicting the group over the downvote, I was pointing out the ick factor of the phrase, "make them feel good for complying with you" because it sounds very rapey. I was then downvoted and I left the comment about downvoting. Various up and down votes happened after that, as they tend to do. It was a casual comment, no big deal.
