The sexual aspect increases the threat to more than a little touching or as how you've put it "isn't directly attacking". It's an attack on all levels. When someone makes a claim as serious as a possible rape, you have every right to ask questions to ensure that both you and the potential victim are clear about the severity of the accusation, regardless of "feeling bad", because you'll feel a lot worse if the wrong person is punished whilst the real perp gets away.
