Because the tech mindset is usually that of "I can save and/or make the world a better place" and things that make them feel overly virtuous are generally going to be gravitated towards. They see themselves as the "future of <fill in the blank>". There's also a lot of social currency to be gained in thinking this way, and people in tech can be very preoccupied in this.
