Your point is interesting, and I am kind of torn on the ethics of it. How much is our likeness "ours," how do we grapple with something that feels morally questionable but is generally legally/ethically acceptable, and where do we draw boundaries to protect rights in either direction? Do people have an inherent right to peace/wellbeing, just like they have an inherent right to their thoughts, including thoughts that sexualize others? And if so, what happens when those rights collide? I don't kno…
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 06:46 PM

Doesn't everyone have a different perception of what is average?
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 06:19 PM

Is there historically a great deal of overlap between porn stars and kindergarten teachers?
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 06:12 PM

It's good advice, even if people don't wanna take it.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 06:11 PM

Yeah, I get that. It makes me sad because I'm unattractive but fairly interesting (or at least I like to think I am, lol), and I put a lot of time into my bio/conversation starters. So it's like all that work is for nothing, if guys aren't even reading it. But I guess that's just the reality of things.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 06:06 PM

That makes sense. And it's frustrating to be part of the minority there. I consider bios first and pictures last, and it seems like OLD is definitely built for the opposite.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 05:30 PM

Why is space so limited on OLD profiles now? I remember writing paragraphs about myself on OKCupid, finding guys who did the same, and it gave us enough fodder for a solid week's worth of conversation before we ever met up. Now it seems like men (and I assume women as well) don't even bother to fill out the limited space profiles. How are people able to tell whether or not their matches have mutual interests, or interesting things to talk about?
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 05:20 PM

Chads, traditionally, have been very much the opposite of "nice" to me
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 04:21 PM

Is she considered unattractive? I always view her as fairly average
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 04:19 PM

What does "forcing a friendship" mean?
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 01:48 PM

Well, as I said elsewhere in the thread, I dislike my own birthday, but I enjoy making a big deal out of others. Perhaps I am not representative of the female gender as a whole, I wouldn't know - but I imagine that this is a subject where personal preference/individual experience can vary.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 01:45 PM

In my experience, infatuation is usually a matter of potential - you are getting to know someone in real life, but your brain is constructing a fantasy to fill in the gaps. And usually that fantasy is a good/desirable thing. You are giving the person all sorts of potential qualities that you like. But of course, those qualities aren't real, and as you get to know them better, their actual personality does not mesh with the fantasy you constructed. Which leads to disappointment/resentment/bittern…
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 01:39 PM

Yeah, I don't know much about the gender distinctions of this issue, but personally I always do what I can to make everyone's birthday notable. Even if I can't make it a big production, I'll bake for them, write a note about how important they are to me, something like that. It seems like the least you can do when someone is giving you the gift of friendship/companionship throughout the year.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 01:34 PM

It's fun to make a fuss over other people. I don't know why people don't do that for their SO, or even just their friends.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 01:26 PM

I don't like my birthday, but I do get excited about other people's. I mean, they're days specifically meant for celebrating the people I love, how cool is that?
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 01:22 PM

Oh I thought you meant "mid" the way people talk about unattractive lol. Not like middle range. That makes more sense
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 01:09 PM

I end up attracted to men just because they are kind of nice to me lol. Being aware of the problem is a start
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 12:55 PM

How can a voice be mid
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 12:51 PM

Only if it's a 15 minute long ramble about a special interest. If not, why even bother talking to me
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 12:50 PM

I think people are generally reluctant to write a public review saying "I don't get laid/I only get laid"
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 12:47 PM

It's part of the natural order of things
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 12:44 PM

Growing up as an emo kid gave me a deep, unshakable appreciation for men in eyeliner
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 05:09 AM

You are not saying they are useless, but you are implying that they are disposable and easily replaceable.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 04:18 AM

I can think of several reasons not to compete over this, ranging from "it's a ridiculous thing with no objectively measurable winner" to "you feed into a self-perpetuating cycle in which contributions will always be devalued/undermined/overlooked, thereby directly contributing to the very problem you are lamenting."
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 04:11 AM

I fail to see why you shouldn't measure them the same. Skilled labor is skilled labor, contributions are contributions. Weighing them against one another strikes me as a somewhat foolish pursuit at best, and at worst, a perspective that sews the seeds for a particularly insidious brand of eugenics.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 04:06 AM

Why do you judge contributions that way?
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 03:54 AM

Measuring contributions to society based on the IQ/intelligence necessary to make said contribution is not a great path to go down, imho.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 03:50 AM

Are we in a competition to decide who is making the most meaningful contributions?
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 03:45 AM

What sorts of contributions are being dismissed? (I am not saying that in a way to imply it's not actually happening, I am just hoping for additional context)
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 03:42 AM

😭
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 01:29 AM

I'm too autistic for humor, let me have this
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 12:59 AM

What would distinguish that from "stay-at-home mom who is getting the oil change on the family's second car during work hours because everyone was too busy to do it any other time?"
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 12:56 AM

How would a mechanic know if somebody was a single mom or not?
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 12:54 AM

This is one of the few topics that I don't understand dissenting opinions on. The practice seems awful no matter how I look at it.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 12:52 AM

Isn't that kind of what we all are?
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 12:03 AM

That still doesn't explain why I shouldn't be interested in the hypothetical AI-generated sex robot. Have you never been interested in something you weren't the primary target demographic for?
/r/PurplePillDebate02/02/23 12:02 AM

I certainly do. But that being said, I have never seen a tech product that was marketed only for people who are having problems, while others were not allowed to use or interact with it. I can only assume these hypothetical robots would be the same way.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/02/23 11:14 PM

So I'm not even allowed to talk about futuristic AI generated sex robots with the men, because fucking machines exist right now? And people here say women aren't silenced or oppressed. Smh.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/02/23 10:58 PM

That's lame as hell compared to what OP is talking about and you know it
/r/PurplePillDebate01/02/23 10:53 PM

Why do I have to move over? Why can't I get a robot too?
/r/PurplePillDebate01/02/23 10:39 PM

I don't know. I personally think they are all very attractive, but they tend to say they are ugly themselves.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/02/23 10:12 PM

I don't disagree that it isn't a new concept, but I still don't want to be in a position where I have to defend nudes of myself in a professional context, photoshopped/deepfaked or otherwise. I would assume it would end very poorly for me. But I do appreciate your optimism.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/02/23 09:03 PM

You don't think it would be difficult to try and explain that to a CEO of the company you work for who doesn't know you personally/isn't remotely invested in you as an individual? Or potential future employers who always see it attached to your name?
/r/PurplePillDebate01/02/23 08:48 PM

I spend a lot of my free time watching YouTube videos about nerdy programming/engineering shit, and I don't know how to put makeup on. (Also Lana Del Ray is solid. Good taste.)

It seems like men also fall out of love very easily and are quick to leave, though. Or at least that's what I've seen happen within my demographic of women, which is admittedly not the most conventionally desirable. But either way, it's another bit of fraying thread in the fabric of our relationships. It's sad.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/02/23 04:50 AM

My social anxiety would never let that happen. Every last interaction is seared into my brain and replayed on an endless loop, while I am forced to watch them all Clockwork Orange style

I don't understand how that can happen
/r/PurplePillDebate01/02/23 04:36 AM

I don't seethe, no. With OnlyFans and IG, I worry about men's mental well-being, because parasocial relationships can be very damaging things. I think many men may end up hurt or burned in the long run if they aren't careful. Waifus/AI/VR don't bother me at all. Especially waifus. Those are so valid.

A woman would be worse. If he cheated with a man (assuming he ID'd as straight before that), I would assume there was a lot more going on beneath the surface besides just "I'm horny and wanna fuck somebody hotter than you." That would still require a lot of painful conversations and decisions, and would not be a fun time. But it would be a less awful version of heartbreak, imo.

Vocal misogynist, honestly. I grew up around plenty of them, it wouldn't be that hard for me to deal with. And at the end of the day, if we're looking at marriage as a team-up, I'm gonna take the better teammate.

The guy I'm into keeps sending me weird sex memes. I don't know if that means I've officially become "one of the guys" for him, or if it's just him being awkward. But it's a strange development.

I understand what you're saying. I can't speak to the male experience; I don't know what it feels like to try to make connections and have it come across as gross/harassing. But I can say that I know how it feels to be the weirdo loser, who is overly earnest and whose attempts at connection get rebuffed. It sucks. And it does lead to wanting to isolate. But I don't know if you ought to give up completely, because through pushing harder, you do find those rare, meaningful relationships with the r…

That is an interesting read, but I don't know how I feel about some aspects of it. Particularly the decay of social relationships/connections and the reliance on narcotizing virtual entertainment...because that always strikes me as a choice. A very easy choice to make when life is as difficult as what as spelled out here, and when you feel defeated. I couldn't really blame anyone for making it. But it would still be a choice. More and more, I am convinced that our best course of action is to dig…

I like to think there's a significant difference between "lowering your standards" and "increasing your capacity for love." I know a lot of people would disagree with me, but I do not understand why opening your heart to a wider range of individuals is seen as "settling" rather than "growth."

That type of anxiety is a hard thing to overcome. Best thing to do imo is to keep exposing yourself to those situations. It doesn't necessarily feel like it'll get easier to integrate, but that's the only way it happens.

That's what I mean. Suicide is the culmination of suffering, no matter how you slice it. It upsets me when people aren't sensitive to that.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/01/23 09:17 PM
5

It's frustrating to see suicide approached as anything but a ripple effect of tragedy. The suicide itself is terrible. The impact suicide has on others is terrible. All of that suffering is preventable, given the right resources/support, but we have been convinced that unconditional compassion and empathy are weaknesses.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/01/23 09:12 PM
1

I have been in the same position. I think it depends on several factors, including how isolated you feel, the degree of connection to those you are leaving behind, how long the ideation has been formulating and how much mental anguish is impacting your executive functioning, etc. Sometimes it can be a long, thoroughly-planned process with all your affairs in order - I'm certainly not saying that's impossible. But I also understand why it does not always happen that way.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/01/23 09:06 PM
6

That strikes me as a very easy thing to say, but a choice that likely feels very different when you are the one who believes you are out of options. (I also have to wonder what qualifies as a "non-traumatic" suicide method. Finding a loved one's body is traumatic across the board.)

I don't understand why people willingly participate in affairs.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/01/23 08:58 PM

I don't think people who commit suicide are able to look at their decisions that way. They are in a place of extreme pain/sorrow. That suffering and desperation overrides everything else.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/01/23 08:56 PM

I am not fit myself, so whether or not they are fit is completely irrelevant. It would be very hypocritical to be concerned about that. I have never thought about height. My most recent crushes have been 5'4", 5'6", and 6'3". They were all very nerdy and into anime.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/01/23 01:00 PM

Shared interests. I enjoy anime/manga/VNs, I'm learning Japanese, etc. It would be cool to date a guy who liked that stuff too, since it's a big part of my life.

I don't think Star Wars is particularly braindead at all, especially when you're looking at the content beyond the films and the sociopolitical elements. But agree to disagree on that one.
/r/PurplePillDebate28/01/23 10:27 PM

I'm not even really seeing how the draw system sucks. It's not so different from standard RPG grinding. Maybe a little more mindless, but then is regular grinding particularly engaging?
/r/PurplePillDebate28/01/23 10:24 PM

I see. That seems to create a very convenient situation in which you can dismiss huge swaths of media and pick the most intentionally braindead options as evidence that female-oriented media lacks insight.
/r/PurplePillDebate28/01/23 10:22 PM

I still don't exactly understand. Is popularity with women the only measurement of whether or not media is considered female oriented?
/r/PurplePillDebate28/01/23 10:18 PM

Right. But if we are part of the percentage that doesn't like it, why is it still considered representative of us?
/r/PurplePillDebate28/01/23 10:15 PM

Oh. What if we don't like it?
/r/PurplePillDebate28/01/23 10:12 PM

Why are we using those as the examples of female media?
/r/PurplePillDebate28/01/23 10:10 PM

I do think it is silly advice. Back when I held some deeply-rooted misandrist beliefs, it was largely my interactions with men that caused and reaffirmed them. I didn't get over those feelings until I did some deep internal work. Very little of that growth process was swayed by who I did/did not interact with at the time.
