Show me a teacher caning someone for bullying, and I'll show you two bullies.

Very nice, as always. But it should be "sliver" rather than "slither".

The fact that female teachers routinely rank boys' work lower than girls' for the exact same effort is evidence of this. Not just effort, but quality too.

Violent men are almost always individuals acting alone, and their actions are usually condemned by other men. There's no Gentlemen's Wife-Beating Society where dudes hang around in leather armchairs discussing the optimal thickness and flexibility of flogging canes while twirling their mustaches and going "mmyes mmyes". This is just an attempt- plainly mendacious- to assign collective guilt.

I wouldn't say she's getting a pass exactly. Even news outlets you'd expect to make excuses, like CNN or the Graun, aren't doing that- but are just reporting the latest developments in a pretty matter-of-fact way and are more about Broadwater than about Sebold. That's probably the way it should be. I'm usually fairly forgiving towards people who misidentify their attackers. In most cases it's not malicious, just a tragic mistake. But her cavalier indifference isn't excusable. What kind of sicko …

I was following the twitter hashtag for Men's Day this year. The difference between this year and previous years is that there were far more positive and helpful comments. Far less extreme right whaargarble trying to coopt it to push Trmupsterism. Far less cackling and screeching about how men have every day already and how funny it is that it's also toilet day.

i remember someone asking me “c’mon, are you really saying you wouldn’t have sex with a hot girl if she walked up to you on the street and offered out of the blue?” when I expressed this feeling one time. If a hot girl walked up to me and offered me sex out of the blue I would suspect a scam of some kind.

I once heard conservatism described as the belief that there needs to be an in-group with rights but no obligations, and an out-group with obligations but no rights.

I have no issue helping people if they are nice about it. Just the other day this little old lady asked me to get something off the top shelf for her at the supermarket because I could reach and she couldn't. She was nice though, if she'd screeched and been demanding I probably wouldn't have.

I think that's a bit short sighted. Autocratic governments tend to be unintelligent and to get carried away by the crazy ideas of whoever is in charge. Remember anti-scientific lunacy like Welteislehre, Lysenkoism, and the whackjob former President of Gambia who thought herb paste and bananas can cure AIDS? Authoritarian governments can't be trusted to listen to health experts, so how long do you think it'll be before some bigwig decides circumcision is a great way to prevent the spread of STIs …

Sure, but most people aren't familiar with the theory and application of photo composition. I suspect they're going to look at a bad photo, subconsciously realise there's something off about it, but blame it on the person depicted. That's why it's important to have a control where the subject is similarly off-center and in which his face occupies a smaller percentage of the full photo.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates24/06/20 03:56 PM
4

Interesting, but I wonder if the difference could be ascribed simply to photo composition: that is, the ones with the cat are more cluttered and therefore less appealing. It would have been good to see a third photo with the guy and some neutral object (say, a potted plant) in the frame. I guarantee a guy holding a fish is going to be considered even less attractive. Finally, I'm OK with the result if it's accurate; I have no interest in dating a woman who will dislike my cat.

There's also /r/FeMRADebates which is kind of an oddball in that most of the membership leans strongly towards the MRA side, but the moderation is blatantly partisan feminist cheerleading. There's still occasionally some good stuff there.

I remember seeing some studies posted where men were shown to stay in unhappy marriages more than 10 years longer than women did. Wouldn't that imply there are lots of marriages where one partner is unhappy and the other is still happy? Otherwise we'd find virtually all unhappy marriages terminated by the wife after a few years and there'd be almost no data available on guys who stick it out for a decade.

What's the point of this? Either TiTCJ is as and as you say, in which case they're not worth your attention. Or they're not as bad as you say, and your badmouthing is unfair. Either way, there's no good reason to post shit like this.

I wonder if this contributes to the differences in STEM enrolment in later education. It's easier to fudge a marking scheme on, say, a creative writing exercise than on a math test, which will be rather more objective. Nine times seven either equals 63 or it doesn't, and no amount of perceived misbehaviour from the boy taking the test can change that. Therefore it's plausible that boys will subconsciously move towards subjects where they have a better chance of getting a result proportional to t…

If airlines don't want men sitting next to unaccompanied minors then they should allocate them other seats. This is something ticketing software should be able to handle. Shaming a guy in front of a whole cabin for sitting in the seat you allocated him is both stupid and callous.

It's typical of people who think there's only two teams on any given issue. Anyone who doesn't drink the MensLib koolaid must be a Trumpkin. I for one like this place because it isn't full of nationalist right-wing dingbats with conservative views on gender relations like MR, and isn't just a series of strict exercises in penance like MensLib.

Yes, and there's a push to give all the credit for the discovery of dark matter to Vera Rubin, when in fact the first unimpeachable observational evidence was compiled by Fritz Zwicky several decades earlier. Zwicky is also particularly vulnerable to being erased because he was a bit of a grouch, and because he had all sorts of other bizarre ideas that ended up being rubbish.

There are plenty of examples of discrimination and issues that effect men. Many are actually discovered much to the bewilderment of researchers who set out expecting to find exactly the opposite. And for every one of these studies that gets published, there will be two that don't because the researchers or journal editor don't like the result. Or disbelieve it because it's not what they were setting out to prove.

I wonder if this contributes at all to the STEM gap. It seems to me that boys might gravitate towards subjects like mathematics where the answers are more objective and there's less scope for the teacher to fudge the marking to their disadvantage. Similarly, girls might prefer subjects that maximize the girl bonus.
