Counting Surrogacy Income In CA Spousal Support?Well I’m actually a tax CPA so I have decent background in this area, lol. You can gift someone money tax free, and it’s not reported as income or required to be taxed as long as you haven’t gifted more than your lifetime exemption amount ($11.5MM). You’re just supposed to file a tax return to tell the govt you sent a gift if it’s over $16k. However, my argument would be that it’s not a gift, but rather compensation in exchange for services. The family wouldn’t give her the money unless she carr… | /r/Divorce_Men | 14/12/22 09:48 PM
Counting Surrogacy Income In CA Spousal Support?4 years, so not the end of the world, but ya it’s a big check for sure | /r/Divorce_Men | 14/12/22 09:44 PM
alimony and bonuses and RSUs20-25% of your bonus is basically half, if you consider taxes take 50% off the top, so you are sharing the remaining 50% with her. Since it is mediation, try to set a cap. She may not even notice or make a deal of it. Just act like she is getting pay based on what you made when you were married, plus normal bumps Oh, and I doubt that pay will count against your alimony time, but let me know if that ends up being the case! I am just happy my alimony has an end date in general. 😅 | /r/Divorce_Men | 12/03/22 04:35 PM
alimony and bonuses and RSUsI just spoke to a mediator about this the other day, and she basically said my wife would be able to collect on small increases over the next 4 years, like $10-25k raises etc, but there would be a cap. I said “what if 3 years from now, I got an extra $100k added to my bonus,” to which she said my ex would get capped out and only receive a small portion. We are in CA. | /r/Divorce_Men | 12/03/22 06:17 AM
Finally had the Talk, spoiler it suckedI just did a similar thing. I’m feeling very free now that we have been separated. It’s well worth the tough talk. I specifically told my wife “I’m not happy in our relationship” every couple months the last few years and she always blew me off and didn’t want to address anything I had to say. Then when I told her I wanted a divorce, she acted surprised and like I was the one breaking up the family. You can only do your half. You’re probably anxious as shit right now, but from a guy that’s 3 wee… | /r/Divorce_Men | 26/02/22 04:33 AM
Ex just asked me to split monthly child tax credit payments with her (USA residents). Don't know how I feel about it, and wondering if any of y'all have had this discussion? If she also claims HOH, her effective taxes would decrease substantially (assuming she makes any sort of income), as the tax brackets are much larger. You would not benefit, but could maybe work something out with her so that you did. Right now the government is getting more of your cumulative earnings than they need to. | /r/Divorce_Men | 24/02/22 02:51 AM
Ex just asked me to split monthly child tax credit payments with her (USA residents). Don't know how I feel about it, and wondering if any of y'all have had this discussion?Child tax credits aside, are you both claiming at least one kid on your tax return and filing head of household as opposed to single? This isn’t applicable if you have just one kid, but should be the goal if you have multiple. | /r/Divorce_Men | 24/02/22 01:37 AM
Recently separated SAHM is trying to buy a house? In CA, she is technically on spousal support from the time that we separate and agree on getting a divorce. Any payments to her between now and the final paperwork will offset amounts due in relation to the decision | /r/Divorce_Men | 22/02/22 03:19 AM
Recently separated SAHM is trying to buy a house?agreed, thank you. | /r/Divorce_Men | 22/02/22 03:17 AM
Recently separated SAHM is trying to buy a house?Yes, exactly the case. And of course she said nothing about this until just after we had 2 kids, so she had leverage. My son was about 6 months old when she demanded this new girl (w/no job) move in. I suffered through it for 2 years so I could be with the new kids, but now it’s time. Not getting to the 10 year mark | /r/Divorce_Men | 21/02/22 07:16 AM
Recently separated SAHM is trying to buy a house?I wish! I decided to divorce her because she forced another woman into our relationship. The other woman is still with her, so I’m positive there’s no rich BF around. I was the rich man in the relationship… | /r/Divorce_Men | 21/02/22 03:27 AM
Recently separated SAHM is trying to buy a house?Agreed. The spousal support would only go for “half the time married”, so 4.5 years. I don’t think any mortgage company would give mortgage approval for temporary support, even if substantial. Maybe she’s crazy enough to think I will carry the mortgage? I really don’t understand, which is why I’m trying to hear if anyone has experienced something similar so I can get ahead of it. First mediation appointment is on Wed, but I think thatll just be an introduction. | /r/Divorce_Men | 21/02/22 02:09 AM
Recently separated SAHM is trying to buy a house?I just loaded them in my car 😂. I agree with the denial part, or she just doesn’t understand money at all, which was my experience during our relationship. She agreed to mediation and is usually somewhat agreeable. | /r/Divorce_Men | 21/02/22 01:58 AM
Recently separated SAHM is trying to buy a house? The inheritance has been specifically distinguished as separate property, so I shouldn’t have an issue there. Also, in CA, you don’t file any paperwork for the separation date. Nothing is filed until all asset splits and custody are agreed upon. However, I have plenty of texts, emails, etc marking the 13th as our separation date. | /r/Divorce_Men | 21/02/22 01:50 AM
Divorced. It’s funny how 99% of the posts in this group involve women spending like shit. My life is no exception. I had two spending like shit (probably $70k/year wasted). Where are the financially responsible females out there?!? | /r/Divorce_Men | 17/02/22 01:03 AM
Anyone Else Only Married Due To Kids and Finances? My wife said that she was bisexual, and wanted to have a threesome with a woman. We setup all of our boundaries, and found a woman that was interested on a dating app. After sleeping together a few times casually, my wife broke all the boundaries, started a romantic relationship with her, and had her move into the house | /r/Divorce_Men | 16/02/22 11:33 PM
Interested in women. But what’s a turn off/red flag for you?1) Knowledge of astrology 2) Acting as if astrology has any bearing on human life 3) Vocalizing her beliefs in astrology, and taking offense at the scoffing that immediately occurs from listeners | /r/Divorce_Men | 16/02/22 05:16 PM
Any tips for first night out alone?I used to travel some for work, and with nice meal stipends, so I would end up eating at some pretty good places by myself. At first, it felt weird, and I would spend a good chunk of time looking at my phone to avoid the awkwardness. But, as time progressed, I found myself looking at my phone less and less, and just enjoying the meal. One trick worth mentioning would be eating at a bar. People notice a solo person much less when they are spending time at a bar, as others are usually nearby. May … | /r/Divorce_Men | 15/02/22 11:22 PM
Whose paying the most alimony in this sub ! Let’s start naming figures boysI just started the divorce process, but I am guessing I am going to be in the $7K/month area. Thankfully, I should only be making alimony payments for 4 years | /r/Divorce_Men | 15/02/22 10:57 PM

Guilt of SplurgingI have been keeping my finances pretty tight while my wife has been splurging for years. I made 100% of the money and probably spent 20%. I can’t wait to get my divorce worked out and then start buying some things for me. | /r/Divorce_Men | 14/02/22 11:27 PM
Anyone Else Only Married Due To Kids and Finances?Haven’t spoken to a lawyer yet. I am expecting to just provide for the wife, but we shall see. Hoping to do mediation and have it done quick | /r/Divorce_Men | 14/02/22 05:03 AM
(29M) - Tired of providing for an ungrateful wife (28F) who raises my blood pressure with every conversation that we have. I don’t possess the confidence to leave, nor the willpower. We have no children, nor any assets. Please guide me before I lose my mindYou have the easiest married situation on here! Leave and pay a couple years alimony to be done with it. | /r/Divorce_Men | 14/02/22 12:04 AM
Anyone Else Only Married Due To Kids and Finances? My wife brought another woman into our relationship when I had a 2yo and 6mo old. I told her I didn’t want the other woman as part of our family. She didn’t care. Today, 2 years and 2 mo later, I told my wife I want a divorce. I was there just for the kids. I needed to watch them grow as babies. The relationship with the women was a constant struggle, and expensive (I was only one working). Feeing both relieved and anxious right now. I have a long road ahead. | /r/Divorce_Men | 14/02/22 12:02 AM
