The violence is definitely a problem, is important and definitely needs to be addressed but it is the tool used to keep people in their socially acceptable gender roles. The use of violence, in itself, is part of gender policing. If this man needs a good slapping to get him to stop acting like a woman, who better to give it to him than a Real Man, a Manly Man, someone who is acceptable.
