Completely normal behavior. They think they have chosen their own happiness. How could they feel guilty, when they "feel" it's right. And they truly believe their children will one day understand and even applaud their decision.

That's probably the hardest. How they succeed in making you believe you are somehow the problem, and if only you would do or be X, Y or Z, the marriage could be saved. No self-reflection, I suppose.

Exactly. "I could only have feelings for another man because our marriage was already over or because I never loved you." Cognitive dissonance is strong with adulterers.

I find it especially hard for my children. I went through hell when I found out her cheating, and it took me a long time to accept that my marriage was over. But now I know I wouldn't take her back if she asked. But knowing my children went through these dark years also, and won't have a mom and dad who are together, still hits hard. There is no way I will ever forgive her for that. Plain selfishness.
