As a counter point the amount of reported cases is always much lower than the actual amount. Fair enough. I'm no expert. Some people commit such awful crimes that it would be surprising if they weren't at least bullied in the pen. The whole "prisoners will take care of them" thing seems to be more myth than reality. But it occasionally happens. Eg in the UK Steven Barker, who tortured a toddler to death over months, had acid thrown in his face; in the US Jeffrey Dahmer was shanked; etc. I haven't heard of as female prisoner being brutalized or killed, but I assume it's happened at some point. Overall I don't think it happens very often, and if there's a risk the prisoner is placed in isolation.
