The title is not accurate to the article. She was involved in bombings, yes, in 1969 in Israel. She is not being deported for those bombings, she's being deported as part of her plea deal. The deal was to plead guilty to immigration fraud which she is guilty off for lying on her documents about her past. It's important to be as accurate as possible when reporting anything. The title needs to be the most accurate. Saying she is being deported for bombings is no different than lying.

It's very simple to call a school and ask if so and so graduated from there. Many employers, especially ones that deal in well paying fields, conduct a simple investigation. They contact your references, check to see if you actually earned your degree etc. A background check is more invasive, and pulls primarily from federal and state organizations to see if you have any criminal record along with a direct pull of records from any school you have attended if the background check needs it.

Upon speaking with my coworkers I realize that I was in fact wrong when I said that officers don't need a security clearance. I find it incredibly ironic that in order for a woman to become motivated to do something with her life, she needed a man to show her the way.
