Typically more religious studies. I met someone through my born again preacher christian mum (this guy is autistic) , they had some similarities but a) He didn't use his faith to talk about himself b) we had respectful discussions on faith, respected eachothers views, he didn't try to force his beleifs on me c) he was obsessive with it, but think like religious studies. Liked to debate theories with me, dropped bible verses into conversations casually, watched a lot of Christian documentaries, e…

Autistic adhd woman here, I have neurodiverse friends with Christianity /faith as a special interest and they don't have the same approach as this at all

Spiritual narcissism is a thing. My mother is a spiritual narcissist, took a long time to figure that out rather than giving her the benefit of the doubt, thinking it was trauma (she'd been abusive to me my whole life, then became a born again Christian, and it was the no.1 excuse for abusive behaviour from then on out, but everyone around us minimised it because "it's just faith"). Notice how in that post, faith is just a conduit in the conversation for him to talk about himself and redirect at…

There is, without a shadow of a doubt, a definitive difference. The term disorder also does not equal mental illness. A disorder is a term that can describe dysfunction from many origins, be it psychological, biological, or developmental processes. A psychological disorder, like schizophrenia, does not affect cognition and perception of reality in the same way as : a biological neurological difference you are born with. We can't alter the structure of neurodiverse brains. People can develop PTSD…

A diagnosis gives access to treatment. Without my diagnosis, my co-morbid conditions wouldn't have been seriously considered a possibility and been diagnosed. If you end up needing to go to A&E for something EDS related, it's safer to go with a diagnosis on your record. A doctor may still not know the condition, but they are less likely to argue your symptoms if that diagnosis is there (despite mine being diagnosed, they feel the need to question my experience of my symptoms often regardless if …

ah, i've been there a few times, including before diagnosis. Issues with iron levels, B12,etc, can be more commonly seen on blood results with EDS, but not necessarily at all. Mine are typically normal (aside from one or two individual results being slightly outside of range), but that depends for me personally on the panel requested, and if I've had an allergic reaction. In my case, they only looked for inflammatory blood markers on tests, I got told 'well there's no inflammatory markers so, yo…

Second this, was listening to this podcast and right as I started to read through your post the part about EDS started! (I am woman diagnosed autistic aged 20 (now 22), only found out I had EDS indirectly through getting diagnosed autistic, that led to additional diagnoses of ADHD, Dysautonomia, MCAS, syringomyelia, scoliosis, CFS/ME) I volunteer within an EDS charity to support others with it and the link between ASD/EDS is something bought up often. If polls are run, etc, it's quite regularly …

There are multiple things you look at for an EDS diagnosis (ASD,ADHD,EDS,Dysautonomia, MCAS,syringomyelia, scoliosis, CFS/ME - all diagnosed, volunteering within an EDS charity, my ASD diagnosis at 20 yrs led to all those other diagnoses, I wouldn't have known I had EDS without it). hEDS is the most common type. I was initially diagnosed by a rheumatologist, some leave it there, I've been referred on for this to be confirmed by clinical genetics. The additional comorbidity symptoms are helpful t…

Neurodiverse woman here! (Autistic, severe ADHD). I swore to myself I'd stop dating neurodiverse men a year ago, because of so many bad experiences, then did it again. Dated someone with autism and ADD. Started out great, then after a month it just went bad. Their neurodivergence would typically be the root explanation for whatever shitty thing they were doing at the time (e.g. repeatedly cancelling dates at the last minute because they 'forgot' to give me notice, didn't realise they would be bu…

I am confused as to your point here because I would like for it to develop into something more, I am dating other people and have been for the last 4 months, I had a date last week with someone else, but I would like to get to know this guy romantically not platonically.

yeah I get that, I've had multiple relationships and friendships with other neurodiverse people and some of those have been the worst relationships I've had. I am proceeding with caution, initially I disregarded him as a potential date because I was nervous about dating people who had those conditions again but after getting to know him better he really doesn't seem like that. I will continue to keep my guard up and not overlook any bad behaviour for the foreseeable future incase it's an act fro…

I didn't accept the behaviour from him, I've already read the handbook more than once. I found out about most of this stuff over text, and was pretty certain about turning down the date, just wanted FDS opinions since the women in my life keep normalising this guys behaviour when I ask for advice. My self esteem is pretty good.

I'm already at university in the last year of a degree with a promising career path, I have my own place and live independently so he's not really got anything to offer me, I'm going to cancel the date 👍

Exactly this. I've tried doing this and you'll usually find they come back with something continuously low effort like "how's it going" 🙄

THIS SOUNDS JUST LIKE MY LAST RELATIONSHIP!! Even down to wearing a thing I gave him when he left. It was a 4 year relationship. I had attachment issues, no friends or support network. He was also paying for "entertainment" online. Lovely, you'll be fine. I know it hurts now, and that's normal and okay. It'll take time, but not long from now you'll be over it, he's not worth taking up space in your thoughts - let alone your day to day life. Well done for getting therapy, proud of you for recogni…

I think it applies. Perhaps just maintain distance, drift apart and stop replying as often, or giving really short replies if you're looking to remove him from your life without confrontation :)

The attachment will go. I had a similar thing with my first. I thought the breakup would hit me a lot harder, but I was over it (4 year relationship) within about 3 weeks. Onto bigger and better things lovely, there's so much life left to live without being held back by others :)

as another woman who's house is gradually filling from her plant collection, loves the science behind it, practices yoga, and is hyped about her skincare routine: i'd listen to you talk all day. Similar experience with men here too. This entire post is just a whole mood in itself.
