As someone who lives in rural Canada and has gotten 10+ inches of snow this week, you do not live here and permanently own a car that gets stuck in the snow twice in one week with 10 35-minute commutes. That's just not feasible. My guess is she drives an SUV (which costs more to fill up!) and he drives a little mustang or civic or some such nonsense. Sir, you did not miss work this week because of "her pettiness." You missed it because you drive an inappropriate vehicle for the place where you l…

"She has taken the lead with the kid's activities, housework, cooking, etc., which I never asked her to do." So did you 'take the lead' in doing all of this, and I can't stress this enough, labour? Who exactly was going to do this work and was it going to get done if you didn't 'ask'? "I am very resentful of her career choices and have expressed this many times." Good lord. I hope she's going to school so that she can build a career and leave.

I went to grad school in Ireland, lived there for 2 years and met my husband there, a let me tell you...the fucked up things about the patriarchal culture in North America (and even the UK) that we all hate are ramped up 100x in Ireland. The idea that a man goes from his mom to his wife, who serve essentially the same function, is not just implied in Irish culture, it's basically stated outright. Moreover, there is very little healthy dialogue about sexuality. It's a lot of religious repression …

I don't think they do, and that's the problem. I think men are too embarrassed to ask a friend to take a photo of them that will make them look attractive to women. Or they're too embarrassed to ask their friend if they already have any good candid photos for their OLD profile. I think that's why you see a lot of profiles with only selfies.

Also, when men tell stupid/bigoted/misogynist "jokes", you can do something similar to this. There are 2 great ways to completely neutralize the poison he just put in the air and make him look like a fool 1 - Pretend you're hard of hearing and ask him to repeat the "joke. Jokes are always less funny every time you hear them, they don't hit as hard and makes the teller feel awkward. 2 - "Huh...I don't get it." jokes are always less funny when they have to be explained and you'll have to make him …

That phrase is the rejoinder of a person who's never been held accountable for their actions and has extremely low emotional intelligence. Very few fuckups are intentional. Very few people intend to maliciously hurt their partners. But almost no one has complete command over their feelings and the behaviours that stem from them. When men say they "didn't intend to" fuck up, that makes sense to them, it's kind of true. What they don't realise is that the same could be said for 99% of human behavi…

When I was young and studying abroad, I found myself on the "other woman" side of this TWICE. The gf called me up and told me the score. One of the women was really a "narrator from the song 'Jolene'" type. I didn't actually speak to her, because she left me a voicemail in tears, saying that she needed me to leave to keep her "partnership" together. I did speak to the other one who confirmed she'd already dumped the guy. Obviously I ghosted immediately in both situations, don't need that mess in…

It's funny when men say they can eat pussy for hours. That's like saying you can run a mile for hours, isn't it?

I found this too when #metoo was at it's height. Both the responses from celebrities (Catherine Deneuve I think) and the older women in my life. Older women tended to have the attitude of "well, men are just forceful. We used to like that!" While younger women were relieved that sexual harassment was finally being taken seriously. I think it's because older generations were raised to believe mens' predatory behaviour was just part of their "essential" nature. I don't think they ever allowed them…

Same goes for gay guys having certain standards for their potential partners (job, life together generally, romantic gestures, etc). I guess gay men are misandrists too?

My stepmom, literally the nicest person in the world, was a cop. Was. Because she quit the force due to the horrific sexual harassment she experienced.from her fellow officers. I always think of that when someone tries to defend cops by saying they have a family member who was a cop. Well, so do I. Cops don't protect each other behind a "thin blue line," they threaten and abuse each other behind it.

Oh I get it - if he makes a joke about the problem that is almost definitely making his life and others worse, then he doesn't have to address that problem! Making the meme means he doesn't have to make improvements! Well good luck with that strategy, my guy, I really hope it works out for you.

this is honestly tragic. Sexuality can be so wonderful and lovely and the porn industry may have ruined this man's sexuality for life.

Captain Awkward is very good. She's a pretty vocal feminist in many ways but especially in the "we should hold men to basic standards of decency for a more equitable world" way, which I really appreciate.

Before I started pushing FDS in my marriage, I used to get really annoyed that my husband never bought Christmas or birthday gifts for his nieces and nephews (I have none - I don't even know their birthdates, because I don't speak to his family.) It meant that this task obviously fell to me, even though they were the kids of his brothers and sisters. I finally told him to stop fucking around one Christmas. The kids were getting older and lived overseas, so literally the gifts were just going to …

my current FWB is very into it and I told him at the start, "only if you know what you're doing." Proper anal has lots of buildup and progresses very slowly. And a HVM will understand that even with all that, you might still not like it and that needs to be okay. You also might have off days where you don't want it or haven't had the chance to, uh, prep. And that also needs to be okay. It's just that most men have never even considered that there's a wya to "do it wrong." All of the build up in …

Honestly, they don't even seem to want to meet up most of the time? They just want to trade numbers so that they can spam you with dick pics or demand your nudes. Like sir, there are literally terabytes of pornograph at your fingertips, on the exact same device you're using to beg a stranger for nudes. Go away.

as a fellow shy, attractive woman, men do not understand women being shy because they'd have to acknowledge that we have our own inner lives and emotions independent of them.

I genuinely cannot understand why someone would want to have sex/commit a sex act with another person who isn't 1000% enthusiastically consenting. I just don't get it. I don't see what's titillating about traumatizing someone doing their job. Wouldn't realizing the other person isn't into what you're doing be a turn off????? It's so disgusting. They have no consideration for anyone else.

I'm lucky to have a lot of HVW in my life as friends and colleagues. They are all high value in their own unique way. Some absolutely kill it at work. Some are less career focused but are extremely charasmatic and light up a room. Some are introverts who run marathons and triathlons. Some are various configurations of their amazing aspects. There are so many paths open to becoming a HVW. I hope everyone finds theirs!

it really pisses me off that the narrative is that she is "controlling" him. I 100% believe that the decision to step away from public life was his idea. The press murdered his mother and he's watching it happen to his own family. It's absolutely the right decision for them/

I'm in an open marriage with my husband. I like sex, and I like novelty. I also want to have sex with women sometimes. I'm open about the status to anyone online (it's in my profile and his). I just don't really feel jealousy in the same way other people seem to, but I think it's also fine to say, "poly/open relationships are not for me." Every person and every relationship should have its own boundaries. And people who want to be in open/poly relationships should not pressure their partners int…

He wanted out and was too much of a coward to tell you. So instead kamikazed something that was working. It was 100% his choice to behave based on his fear. I can't tell you, "don't take it personally" because this is an acutely personal act he's committed against you. But that's kind of the issue: he did something he knew would hurt you, based on his own fears and he had so little consideration for you that he didn't talk himself out of it. The age differential indicates that he's terrified of …

Sexual compatibility is important, but it's also not static past a certain point. And he's much more likely to get an accurate understanding of your approach to sexuality if you feel comfortable and safe. You'll feel the exact opposite of that if he rushes you before you're ready. It's beyond fucked up that he can use all of this therapy speak and miss that huge point.

nah. Most men barely even practice basic hygiene or...idk what to call it, proper care of their body? I don't think I even know a man who uses moisturizer/sunscreen regularly. Definitely don't know any who drink enough water or eat healthy. All stuff that can easily age someone quickly.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
